Kojak was an action-packed CBS police drama television show that has gone down in history as being one of the best of its kind. Tally Savalas starred as the title character, Theo Kojak, a New York City Police Department Detective Lieutenant. The series aired on CBS from 1973 to 1978 and enjoyed high ratings for the bulk of its run.
Kojak was set in the NYPD's Eleventh Precinct and was filmed on location in New York City. The series' plot revolved around the tough, no-nonsense titular Lieutenant's efforts investigating crimes. Kojak, who was bald, stubborn, and happened to have a love for Tootsie Roll Pops, wasn't afraid to break the rules if he thought that it would help bring criminals to justice. While striving to remain professional, he also could be quite witty and cynical.
But Kojak wasn't all just about the man that shared the series' name. Kojak received help from his longtime supervisor Captain Frank McNeil played by Dan Frazer.
Then there was Detective Bobby Crocker played by Kevin Dobson, Detective Stavros, played by Telly's brother George Savalas, Detective Percy Saperstein played by Mark Russell, and Detective Lionel Rizzo, played by Vince Conti.
After declining in viewership, Kojak was canceled in 1978. The series has since done quite well rerunning in syndication. Years after it went off the air. ABC revived Kojak in 1985 with six additional made-for-TV films.
Seeing as how it's been quite some years since Kojak was saving the day and busting baddies on network television, the majority of its cast members have died. Join Facts Verse as we pay our respect to their fallen performers by taking a moment to reflect on their lives and careers.

Kojak use to come to the pizzeria I worked at, located on Broadway and 171 Street in Manhattan when filming in NY. It was owned by a Greek family and he would always patronize it. He would hang out with us and was always a regular guy. The pizzeria is long gone but the memories are cherished.
i was a little kid back in 70s..remebered my father & grand parents used to watch this show back in day along with Colombo & few other shows like that , most of them middle aged & older people in it, thats way it was back in

@@FactsVerse Telly Savalas.
My ex’s mother met Telly back in the 1970s while filming an episode on the lower East side. She said he posed for a picture and gave her a kiss on the cheek. She said it made her day.

Kojak had some big time guest stars like Harvey Keitel, James Woods, William Hurt and Sylvester Stallone. The Stallone episode where he’s a cop who covers up the shooting of a kid is a classic.

@@FactsVerse My favorite character is: Kojak. Try as to how each of the cast of "Emergency!" has died (both Julie London & Bobby Troup with Tim Donnelly).
Telly Savalas had a beautiful way of underplaying his roles. He never, never overacted. His style was thoughtful, sensitive and subtle.
What’s brilliant about kojak is most of the filming was done on the streets of New York off the cuff with real folk in the background and it captures a moment of culture and history of NYC in the 70s..Thankyou for sharing with us, subscribed 🫶

What a great show!! 😊
I started looking at Kojak again right around this time! with the Twin Towers in the background!
Telly had style and great line delivery,. By the looks on some of his co stars faces at times, I don't think he always stuck to the script. But whatever came out of his mouth was pure gold!

I like that we didn't have to see the credits in the way of the video. More videos on KZread should have dead air at the end of each video. (Even though the dead air on here was extended just a bit long)

Cool show
Met Telly in the 80's at a studio premiere. He was the most outrageous flirt I'd ever come across, and didn't care who heard him 😂. My twenty-something self was ill-equipped to handle that! Always remember that exchange with fondness whenever I watch Kojak now 😉

I was in labour at the hospital when the show was on. No PVR back then of course. Both the doctor and my then husband urged me to hurry up and have the baby before the show came on tv. They were only half kidding. It was extremely popular back then.

I don't know the gentleman's first name. Because I only went to the school for kindergarten. And then I went to Catholic school for 12 years. But a school here on Long Island New York. To be more precisely Hicksville Long Island New York. There was a school called Lila avenue. And my friends in the neighborhood who went to public school. Because that's School had grades k through 6. There was a man that was a teacher there named mr. Savalas. And everyone around town, said it was one of Telly's Brothers. Obviously the other one was a character in the TV show, Stavros. You know the guy Kojak would always say to him. Hey fatso get in here !
