The car business is one of those opportunities where people with little to no formal education can make truly incredible amounts of money. Because of this, it is very hard to leave. I know Ed understands this. Took me 20 years to get out and stay out, but the lessons I learned have been all I needed for the rest of my life.

I did the same thing back in 2006. Car lot desk job, calling ups and filling out 4 squares. I bought my own computer (the sales department didn’t have any) and started posting every single car on the lot onto CL. For 6 months straight, I sold 90% of the cars on the lot. Ahhh what a fun time being 21. Easy money. Ps. Now I hate selling cars lol. I only love owning them.

Ha, I worked at Serpentini Chevrolet as a service porter for a time, and yeah, Bob Serpentini was a character. I ended up moving back to my mom's in Cincinnati after she came down with cancer, to help her out. My manager told me that Mr. Serpentini said that if I needed help finding a new job, he could help out. I always thought that was nice of him.

I bought my first and last BMW from BMW Cleveland. Right next to LR Cleveland. I remember a salesman whom I wasn’t dealing with saying to me, “You gonna buy anything?!” I told him I just bought the loaded M3 over there. He then said oh, nice car and held the door for me. When I referred my new car he said, “We don’t sell cars, we sell BMWs.” It was cringy. I remember thinking, does this crap work on people? Cuz it ain’t doing anything for me except making me regret I came there. Later, when some things went wrong with the car the level of service both there and at Ganley BMW (the only two BMW dealers fairly close by) was abysmal. Meanwhile my buddies are glowing over how Lexus dealers fall all over themselves and the cars never break. I still, to this day cannot understand how BMW stays in business.

Nobody at the dealership was computer savvy. By putting the cars on EBay, he was exposing the dealership and their vehicles to a lot more potential customers. It was still a legit sale of the dealerships vehicles, by Doug. The Sales Manager knew what Doug was doing. If someone is selling plenty of vehicles, in a legit way, no problem with that… The Company running the dealership was very slack etc, because when Doug left, they did not cancel ALL of his computer access etc. Owners of the Dealership asleep at the wheel, regarding anything IT based !

Before I watch the video I’ll make a guess. When he was a young buck selling dime bags to his friends he had major dreams of selling cars when he grew up. But unfortunately those dime bags of weed just wasn’t enough to make his dreams come true. So one day an older gentleman approached him wearing a suit and said I have a job for you, Doug thinking this it, this is how I’ll raise the money to start selling cars. So Doug was off to the races shipping coke from Columbia to Miami, and that’s the story!
