The illusion for you is destroyed before 1:14, even way before ytube i guess. Of course it's coming from his suit and sleeve, where else, but that's not the moment showing it, that's the inner layer of the suit, in your case, watch the next 5sec in same spot and maybe you will notice.

He needs to make himself turn to sand because he's Sandman.

I think if you were sitting in the audience live, it wouldn't look so good with the effects and tricks. You can clearly see how he pulls the sand bars out of his left arm. The falling, floating sand is probably edited for TV, so it won't look like that live in the audience. Please don't always believe this, especially at talent shows that are broadcast on TV. There have been so many fakes.
