How Does This Invisibility Cloak Work?

Ғылым және технология

The Invisibility Cloak You've Been Waiting For
news.discovery.com/tech/gear-a...
"Everyone from Harry Potter to working physicists are fascinated with cloaking devices. In science fiction, capes can make kids invisible, but in real life, scientists have only been able to hide certain wavelengths of light - and so far those have been in the part of the spectrum we can’t see."
‘Cloaking’ device uses ordinary lenses to hide objects across range of angles
www.rochester.edu/newscenter/w...
“Inspired perhaps by Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak, scientists have recently developed several ways-some simple and some involving new technologies-to hide objects from view.”
Paraxial Ray Optics Cloaking
arxiv.org/pdf/1409.4705v1.pdf
“Despite much interest and progress in optical spatial cloaking, a three-dimensional (3D), transmitting, continuously multidirectional cloak in the visible regime has not yet been demonstrated.”
‘Invisibility cloak’ uses lenses to bend light
www.cnet.com/news/invisibility...
“One of the problems with the cloaking devices developed to date -- and it's a big one -- is that they really only work if both the viewer and whatever is being cloaked remain still.”

    I think a surgeon not being able to see their hands while they're working would actually be a huge detriment, you kinda want to know where those things are while you're in there....

    I have a question, if say one achieves invisibility with light bending, is someone shines some very bright external light around the area, would that disrupt the invisibility? Like create shadows of the person?

    is it possible to scale it down to nano scale to be able to make invisibility suits instead? also since the power of the lens determine the distance of the lens can the lens be place nearer to each other to make a thin layer that works the same?!

    Very interesting, I noticed this when I first put a scope on my Ar-15. I had it on 9x, and the front post was very obviously in the way, but wasn't visible in the scope. I am older now so I understand how reflecting light works, but I figured that technique could be used for this purpose.

    so it's not invisible.. the image is just shifted positions.. AND you have to be looking through a lens to achieve this..that means that for someone to be able to NOT see you, they have to have the special lens.. .pointless.

So It's okay to have untidy hair on purpose, or not take a shower, brush your teeth, or be unkempt and anyone who doesnt like that is superficial? Good to know. Laci does that untidy hair thing on purpose.. and that turns me off. Some people like untidy hair, that's their Taste. Not me.. If you like your girls looking like they just had rough sex and came out of bed, that's your opinion, don't force that on others. lol. I didn't say I prefer girls with big tits and big ass. If a civilization were advanced enough- do you think they could be using a greater form of this technology to prevent the detection of them from other civilizations including us? As in; could there be a cosmological scaled version of this technology; perhaps to even hide whole galaxies etc? Also, would there be a way to use this inversely against a Blackhole to see something beyond; preventing the blackhole from capturing the light from the distant object?

Now, stop acting like 12 year-olds who've only just realized how "beautiful them tits are" and have a little dignity and self-control. Jesus.

    So a cloaking device that needs your viewer to wear 4 lenses? You are not cloaking yourself you are blinding your viewer only. Or you are going to wear 4 layers of lenses and kinda box yourself up? We know lenses can bend light and by bending in the right angle we can bend around an object. nothing new but it doesn't seeem to be a device.

    I don't think this is "invisibility" it seems more like focal point concentration with those lens's. Like zooming in on a point with one lens and the other zooming in on another part and maybe the other lens zooming out to give more perspective on what's going on behind the object and etc.

    All you need to be able to do is make a material that can output led video, a miniature 360° camera that can see it's surroundings in realtime, and you've got invisibility. PS no the video wasn't cloaking technology of the future, there are some applications but none feasibly usable like a cloak that is wearable and renders the wearer invisible.

    invisibility does not come down to a trick of light. you could make something invisible using cameras and screens. pretty much any cloak that works by bending light around an object to be completely invisible should leave the object and everyone inside blinded to the outside lol this was neat though.

    Bill Page it depends on what kinda thing it is. If its a suit that cloaks you by bending light around you then you see nothing and would need to have some goggles or something that are linked to some camera nearby or drone camera or something so you can see whats going on. if you are bending the light around you then you cant just see through it with special glasses... or maybe you could how knows lol. Dont see what the government has to do with it though lol

    I think that's stupid, I could have invented that as a kid, it just funnels the light down to nothing in the middle of two lenses only so that cone is visible. The image will be upside down on the other side but one lens can fix that. Its totally impractical anyway, how is that scalable? I'd have to be in two parts that you have to put exactly in a line and distance..

  • @ksng767

    @ksng767

    9 жыл бұрын

    And then we see the problem, you didn't invent it as a kid, or ever at all and that you don't even know the practical use of this set up. If you've read up on this invention, it allows surgeons' hands to become invisible as they operate, it can also be scaled up to create large spaces with invisible objects.

  • @fogglee

    @fogglee

    9 жыл бұрын

    I said I could have. They're just normal lenses. And its all well saying that but show me. How the hell can you hide a surgeon's hands? the hands will be touching the patent so theres no room left for a lens on the other side of the hand, this system hides things in the middle.

  • @ksng767

    @ksng767

    9 жыл бұрын

    Just because they are normal lenses doesn't mean that one can simply invent the set up. Understand causality, we didn't invent it because we did not have the idea in the first place, and only now that it has been invented that you claim to be able to, because you know that such a thing is possible now. And then, if you don't understand how it can allow surgeons to see past their hands, it simply means that, you do not have any idea how to do that.
