HOW DOES The FORD TW25 COMPARE To The MODERN TRACTORS ???

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

So we've had the New Holland T5 140 and the Massey Ferguson 5S 145 on the Spaldings flatlift and i've been comparing them to The Ford TW25. So i thought i'd get TW on the Flatlift in the smae field to see how it compares.

I worked as a pump man in an opencast coal mine around 30 years ago and had a TW for pulling pumps and bagging around. What a beast she was, loved the floor splitter peddle when it got too much for her on a hard pull.

If it was “smiles per hour” George, the old TW would win hands down. Another thing to take into account is what will the T5 or S5 be like after 40 years of hard work? If in fact they would even last that long? Love the old TW. 🚜👍

We got a tw30 over here in America, she’s got 7,000 on her second motor, still going, and probably punching above her weight class. She’s kinda the oddball on our farm of red machines.

140 - 150 HP being considered a smaller Tractor just goes to show you how things have moved on, their capability though also shows that you don't always need 200 - 300+ HP to get the job done. Obivously letting the old girl stretch her legs and enjoying the music once in a while is fantastic, probably makes you enjoy the modern creature comforts of the new iron all the more at the end of the day.

Hey George, it shows that we had some good rain here at long last Because the grass is growing again so much so, That at my school the Big New Holland Tractor has come again to cut the football field after a long time not doing so! It looked like a T7 Tractor the back wheels were about 6.5 feet tall. It was a lovely sight to see it cutting using a bi-folding back cutter. We don't see tractors much here being a Town with no farming around us. Nice to see a New Holland my favorite farming brand even on the Farming Sim game I play. 🚜 😉

you'd void your warranty and they'd likely not survive their first breakdown, TW15/25/35 were designed to spend their entire life expectancy at over 90% output. The T5 had an advantage due to the front loader pressing the front end down with more leverage due to the longer overhang of the loader. Combined with the flatlift pulling the backend down there will have been a lot of strain in the centre of the T5.

Its not easy work nowadays either long hours and very unsociable its as big as strain as ever. When you get to retirement age with your body screwed up and not able to do anything because you wanted the rough ride plus TW only has a small 4 tonne lift capacity which is a problem for lager equipment as much as they were great in their day also the torque isnt there.

It didn’t matter though because they didn’t own the tractors, they were contractors with their tackle on hp so they’d trade up and get another one, treat them with respect and they will do the same to the driver, drama queens are who drive older ones and complain besides if you go slow enough they aren’t bouncy at all

Even his boss commented how come him and my old man had drove it for years and nothing was ever broke and yet these other yahoo's get in it a few months and broke the seat and other things. Tbf their tractors never broke down they were religiously serviced and looked after. My old boy will tell you himself he still loved the old TW but its too slow for anything but field work and the lift is a weak point regulating what size of implement you can use before you destroy the lift. New tractors have much more usability and oil flow. They struggle to tip larger trailers also which is crap when you are under pressure these days. Tw's only have 2wd Braking. 40kph had 2wd with the 4wheel drive system that kicked in to help with braking and nowadays all 4 corners brake. They do, I just traded my Deutz-Fahr 6140, a 4 cylinder 140 hp; it had to work at max power pulling my Krone Comprima Baler and sits at about 22 litres/hour. The new 6 cylinder, 200 hp takes just 10 l/h, which with todays diesel prices more than pays for the additional cost of the tractor. Now, AGCO are pushing 200 hp with their 4 cylinders, but I’m not convinced of the long term durability of pushing a small engine that far. But the 4 cylinder 140-something are great tractors if you want something agile and versatile but don’t need the max power all the time. Great for loader work, especially with a CTV transmission.

@@bewing77 im not totally surprized with what you said. On trucks all brands still use about the same size engines as 10 or 20 yrs ago. They do have a smaller block option, with more hp. But most trucks with 450hp are in the 12/13 liter range still.. but definitely better on fuel.

In the early 1990s my father sold our TW15 and replaced it with a new Massy Datatronic. Within a week or two I distinctly remember him at supper saying it was a bad decision. And he was not a Ford man either.

TW sounding glorious. I wonder how the T5 and 5s would have got on without the loaders (and full bucket)?

Old school grunt and brute force wins the day for me. She’s 40 years old and still in the field on the heavy work, she’s withstood the test of time. You do realise that you most likely have the most famous Tdub in all of the UK

Could only listen to the old 6 pott purring away for so long before getting a so long without getting a sore head . sounds good tho. Don't think the newer smaller tractors would put up with heavy draft work for long they would fall apart

It shows how much the technology has on the current machjnes compared to the Tee Dub. They're cleaner, more maneuverable and more compact with more features to make driving easier and more efficient. However, they don't have that sound....😁

All the more futures and electronics to go wrong they won't last half as long as the TW has and will the TW would be a lot more reliable than them and when something does go wrong on the TW it would be a lot cheaper and easier to fix than the new tractors.

Look for an 8340 George, 7.5 turbo, easy 170 with a tweak and on the move push button gears,, or an 8630 power shift,,,,,
