How does the electric company shut your electric off at the pole/power lines?

Ever wondered how they disconnect & reconnect your power at the pole? I had a billing mix up earlier this year, where I was paying my pervious address's electric account. But, I did always want to know how they got this done, and here it is.

Most utilities don't shut off power from the pole. Are you sure that they were turning off the power?

Ryan Kreder he fenced in his meter so they couldn't screw around there instead

so to cut you off they basically just disconnect the split going from the wire into your house? seems so medieval way to do it. I though they would have some larger switchbox down the road.

xoftc Exactly, they just disconnect the 2 AC lines going to your house, so it's almost impossible for a homeowner to reconnect them without settling with the electric company.

They do have switch boxes, but that's to protect the lines and equipment past the box.

+nicktech360 I'm not here to prove you wrong, but it's three AC lines. Two of them are 120V legs and the third one is neutral, which brings the power from your house to the generation plant.
