Some thoughts from someone who's driven both extensively: Headlights on Dolphin are worse than Atto 3, high beam coverage is awful and has really narrow focus. Atto by comparison is much wider and brighter. Shorter and narrower sun visors on Dolphin mean the difference between getting blinded by the sun or not. Floor it on a Dolphin and you'll feel the front end shudder, Atto 3 does not do this. Both have torque steer, and the Atto 3 shows more body roll than Dolphin. Brakes on the Atto 3 work in a more linear fashion, whereas the Dolphin ones are like chocolate until past ~80% of pedal actuation before they bite. More complex a-pillar arrangement on Dolphin obstructs diagonal visibility. Larger and squarer side mirrors on Atto 3 provide more rear visibility than the Dolphin's rounder ones. Auto dimming central mirror in Atto. Left side driver's vent points directly at your hand on Dolphin, which not only is uncomfortable when the AC is blowing cold, but is also obstructed by the landscape screen if trying to direct airflow to rear passengers, who do not get rear AC vents vs the Atto 3 which does. No built-in dashcam on Dolphin, however the camera-linked sensors on the Dolphin will report exact distance (in cm) to obstacles which the Atto which does not. Atto 3 is only 16.5cm longer, 10.5cm wider and 6.5cm taller than Dolphin, and provides around ~100L larger boot. Atto's parcel shelf can be removed and stowed under multi-level boot floor. Power tailgate also. Taller rear passenger may hit their head on the bulge that the sunshade retracts into on the Dolphin. 3 adults in the rear seat will be packed like sardines. Rear indicators on Dolphin are less obvious than the Atto 3's bright sequentials, which anecdotally, are more likely to result in you being let in while attempting to switch lanes. ADAS in Atto 3 is less posessive and will respect the human as the driver. The most annoying it will get is with the the LKA beeping. Speed sign alerts are non-audible. By comparison, the Dolphin will aggressively attempt to correct your trajectory if you cancel indicators whilst in the midst of a lane change. Speed sign alerts are audible and have to be switched off every time you power on the car. Atto 3 is eligible for BYD's annual capped price servicing of $189 for lower KMs usage, vs Dolphin which is stuck on their variable cost plan which averages $300. Dolphin is not a bad car, but is overpriced compared to the much better Atto 3.

Great callouts and agree with almost of these. I do prefer the more direct air vents in the Dolphin, especially in the hotter days. The latest update on the Dolphin has drastically improved the the ADAS and is much less intrusive now. Also keen to hear your thoughts on the overall handling and cabin noise as well and whether you find the Dolphin better handling but noisier.

I agree. No matter what adjustments I make, I can't seem to get the headlights to perform properly for dark highway driving.

I am owning a Dolphin (Extended (150 kW, 60 kWh) since about 7 months and I am quite happy after just 18,000 km. I was also looking at the Atto 3 because its size would be perfect. But at that time, BYD had only that interior with a lot of white surfaces, which I don’t like. The Dolphin is smaller and lower but not too small and not too low. I can generally confirm what is said in this video. The tires have some problems with grip, what they are ok. I always drive in Eco mode because of the smoother control of the power. My average consumption is just below 14 kWh per 100 km. My practical range is 380 km.
The quality of the car is very good. I am not satisfied with the software and the UI. I could test the Seal which is a little bit better. The ADAS is too sensitiv (phantom breaking) and some menu items are not easy to reach. I also would like to have an acoustical warning for the blind spot monitoring system. I also don’t understand why BYD is not able to calculate my range according to the consumption. I could also make a test drive with the Changan Deep L07 (similar to the Seal). The software from Xiaomi is better. I also had the impression that ADAS is better.

Great video. Have owned one of the first UK Dolphin Premium for ~6 months now, I absolutely love it. Few early quirks with auto headlights and the inherent moisture/heatpump issue but these seem to be ok now (maybe because the weather warmed up?!)

One of the first things I did on my Dolphin Premium was to change the tyres. It's made a BIG difference; much better grip and handling. I absolutely love the car.

Good report. Disagree on the two-tone because it looks like the bonnet has been crashed and repaired. Atto 3 worth every dollar more. Electric tailgate, opening sunroof, rear air vents and much brighter nicer interior. Getting in and out so much easier with the Atto 3 plus 100l extra boot space.

It was actually byd atto 3 that failed with the rear seat tether points that they had to recall them because they had no access to them not Tesla Also why would you buy two byds?

You're right the BYD had that issue first. The Tesla also had the same issue back in Jan when this video was shot. Just replaced our 20 years old Toyota Corolla family car
