@@leibikov5202 I live in Hong Kong. I have done for 31 years so it's my home. I speak and write Chinese well, although only my Cantonese is decent, my Mandarin is poor to be honest. I've travelled extensively in China since I came to Hong Kong in 1989 . Been to many provinces, not just the obvious places/ cities. I hope that answers your question. Oh and I don't need to "think on it " re. HK not being a democracy pre 1997. I was aware of it already oddly enough 🙄 Here's something I'd ask 'people like you' to think on ( I'm just mirroring the phrase you used to me) who trot this out routinely as a deflection/ straw man whenever the topic of Hong Kong's rapidly declining freedoms comes up. ( and it's alarmingly rapid now - the Hugh Chiverton thing has genuinely shocked me and I'm pretty much unshockable now after the past 18 months) And it's this. Hong Kong didn't have democracy pre 1997 that's absolutely true. And it ought to have had - that's also true in my view certainly. But it's not just as simple as that, as much as the whattaboutism people try to make it so. Because while HK wasn't democratic, not was it autocratic. It certainly didn't remotely resemble the situation over the border. HK didn't have democracy, but it certainly has 'democratic norms'. So for example it had a free and open press with a diversity of opinion, not state media. It encouraged free speech, not arresting people with dissenting voices for the crime of "picking quarrells and provoking trouble"🙄🙄 Freedom of assembly and religion was allowed, even the more weird/culty ones like Falun Gong. ( full disclosure - ALL religions are weird/ culty to me 😄 - but I respect others' rights to believe whatever they choose) We had rule of law - not to be confused with rule by law as we increasingly 'enjoy' now 🙄 And if you broke the law, or were accused of doing so, then we had an open and transparent judiciary to deal with it, with numerous checks and balances in place as safeguards. It was based on the UK's common law system with an adversarial trail process with the presumption of innocence at its core. Not a 'justice' system with a 99.7 percent convinction rate because if the government says you did it - then you did it😬 Anyway, that's how it was and that's what made HK so attractive as an Asian hub to many multinationals and global finance and law firms. That was our ' USP' if you like. One that's going down the toilet now at a frankly alarming rate of knots.

.what is the difference BTW HK vs US selection/voting their chief executive/presidency. The latter claimed its POTUS election is the most democratic (via 1 person, 1 votes). But in reality, POTUS is based on two stages process; (1) popular vote count and (2) elector counts with each states assigned numbers of electors at a 10yrs census. But the weirdness of the 2 stages process is that the winner of the popular votes doesnt determine the next POTUS. Instead the ONLY the winner of the elector count is the "constitutionally elected" POTUS. Furthermore, the sitting legislators of each state is enpowered to dismissed and replaced the existing electors with their preferred group of electors. Thus it is the individual states, not the overall citizenry via the popular votes that determined the next POTUS. Thus its the elites and the corporate America with their vast $ resources that determine who is elected as POTUS, given that it is easier and cheaper to "buy" and influence the state on who will be accepted/rejected. THATS IS AMERICA'S DEMOCRACY, ITS WANT EXPORT TO THE R O W.

It's very rare for a state legislature to change which electors are sent. Furthermore, each state legislature is elected democratically.

The Chief Executive of Hong Kong has the exact same powers as the Governor during British rule. At least under British rule there was no ''National Security Law'' and banning of parties from elections.

It's simply not true that only 0.02 percent of Hong Kong people get to choose their leader Alkira. Get your facts straight! Take the Li family for example, hard working salt of the earth types of modest means involved in the real estate business - the veritable poster children for a true communist country anywhere 🙄. Now that one family gets 3 votes to choose the city's leader. Daddy Li, plus each of his two strapping young lads. No women/wives obviously, we don't want to overdo it after all do we🙄, but even so, by my math that's like 70 percent of the family get a vote. So your 0.02 percent thing is clearly all wrong. Get better researchers! Also, just as an aside, while this was just a factual piece detailing the system and how it works - an not editorialising or offering opinions - the 'tone' of it appeared a bit, well, 'snarky' to me. The British actually wanted to introduce voting and self-governance to Hong Kong in the 1950's, just like they did with Singapore and Malaysia. China's (Mao's) response to this proposal was threats of war -- China would "not hesitate to take positive action to have Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories liberated" if self-governance was allowed in Hong Kong.

@@dongiovanni8899 yes,but that is not what happen here,there are less than 10000 voter in this election,and many seat went uncontested,just 10000 people cannot represent the entire population,no matter how much you try.And that is not mentioning the many seat that doesnt NEED a election,they are nearly hand picked by the goverment,and while some are understandable,Some other are just absurd,for example,there are 40(out of 90)seat in the legislature that are elected by the election committie,but all those people that got in those seat (they do not need to be a member of the committie) also serve ex offico in the commttie,so they whoever side that earn a majority can abuse this system to give their side even more power,and since the term of the committie are different than the legislature,in a close election,it could potentally tip the balance of power.

Allow the people best qualified to choose to choose. China patriots.
