    Negreanu is one of the few who continued studying the game when he realized the young guns were using smarter math, and to his credit he studied solvers and GTO and adjusted his game accordingly...he's done very well. Interestingly, a player who did NOT study GTO or solvers, but is still a top ten winner in holdem is Phil Helmuth, which should tell everyone that his particular experience defeats solvers and GTO, otherwise he would have dropped off the map. If you want to be really impressed by an old gun, go look up the hendon mob results for Erik Sidel.

  • @iamawuss

    I’m not sure if Hellmuth isn’t actually studying solvers. At the least he would have people working for him who use solvers to extract the most useful heuristics from unclear hands he’s been in. You just can’t be solver naive at the level he frequently plays at and against the people he plays against and be a winning player IMO.

    You only see when hes right, if you are a talker and you guess all the time, and they show only those, you look like a prophet, LOL. Its an easy guess, either Dan is trying to squeeze, thus you pick up 15 K in free money with an AK shove, or its a flip, so you shove hoping to get 77, 66, 55 to fold, or AQ suited to call. If he had AA or KK hes just calling hoping to trap. Why shove with KK or AA ? You want hands like AK or AQ to come along. It just makes more sense that hes shoving with only 2 hands, QQ or AK.

  • @evraljones9862

    @MrRondonmon Depends on the player. There are plenty of players that would do this with 10's and Jack's as well. His reads are pretty good because he knows who's he's up against. Durrr would be a different story because he'd do something similar with 97 off suit, if he thinks you're weak. People are not claiming he's perfect and gets every read right. If he did, he'd never lose a hand. What people are claiming is that, he does have higher accuracy when it comes to reading than most.

    A lot of times it is just a hunch that goes well. That is why, if you have listened carefully, he almost always leaves himself an out ”or i might just be stupid”, ”or i might be wrong, who knows”...you see one clip for a few thousand hands that he plays where this ”reading” doesnt happened. It is just too damn hard to lay down a top pair. Stop being so impressed with nothing. He is a great player and obviously his winnings and trophies speak for this over the years, but dont make a god out of an ordinary man. If anyone tries to guess 10 times he will most likely be right 1,2,3 times...if you only compile these times in videos you get nothing but the deception, not the truth.

    Daniel is very good. When you play so many hands you start to know what others have. AK is over played so often and when a guy goes all in like that good chance that is the hand. The last hand he won entirely off his table persona. He plays such a large range of hands, he could easily be playing a straight. She didn’t entirely do the wrong thing by folding the winning hand.

    I don't know how much more money/chips that lady had in her bag, I think most people fold good hands because they cannot afford the risk, where Daniel puts you in a tough spot with an over-bet because he can have hundred times more even if he looses that hand, and I noticed this strategy works quite well used by less good people at cash games all across the country.

Does he really show up with a random 6 on the river there somehow as the preflop opener? Just makes no sense at all what she was putting him on. Agreeing that she really should've bet the turn. Here's a question though, what do you do if ngranou checks the turn, Ho bets, and he 3 bets? Now we're in a tight spot.

    Based on that hand reading ability 5/10. Like Seaver said he guessed the hand he hoped his opponent had because he knows it's KK, AA or AK. Also he's protecting his reputation a little by guessing AK. Negreanu knows for the anount of money involved he's never folding but if he guesses KK or AA & then puts the money in its a bad call but if he guesses AK the call is correct.

  • @jackfiercetree5205

    @jackfiercetree5205

    He guessed AK, because if it were a higher pair, his opponent would be looking to give him more rope, along the next streets. Instead, he jammed in an attempt to scare him away from a coin flip. Daniel's best skill is putting himself in others' shoes to make more accurate guesses on why they do what they do.

  • @DaftFader

    @DaftFader

    He's guessed KK correctly before too in a very similar spot preflop on a tournament final table (and correctly folded). He's not just saying AK cos there's the most combo's of it... and it's nothing to do with his reputation as imagine folding incorrectly to AK ... the reverse to what you're suggesting (which he clearly does not worry about). Besides, in poker you're supposed to play against your opponents range, So if their range in that spot is KK/AA/AK, and for the amount of money it's a call, regardless if the opponent has AA/KK or AK it's a good call, as over time he'll make money from when it is AK (or when he hits a third J) even if that specific hand he looses. Dnegs understands this, so doesn't look at villain having AA/KK as being a bad call (it's just better in the short term if they don't, but doesn't matter in the long term as long as Dan's always making +EV plays in that spot), so what you say factored into his decision making can't be correct. However dan does have a good talent of narrowing ranges down further than most people (sometimes down to 1-2 possible combos of 2 cards depending on the specific opponent and their tendencies) He doesn't always get it right, but more often than not he's pretty dam close. Like the 99 hand that you conveniently didn't comment on. You really think he's sitting there at the table in the middle of a poker hand wondering how he's going to come off and be perceived by other people? Dan's one of the few people that it doesn't seem to matter what you think of him, he'll say or do it anyway lol, and he's got in trouble a ton of times in the past for exactly this and is unapologetic about it.

    I wonder sometimes, how would DN read an amateur? Or even a beginner who just read the rules and keeps the hand hierarchy on the table to check every time a card comes out? Is it harder or easier, or no different?

    Players who barely understand the rules will bet when they have something and fold when they don't. 3 hands in DN will know your play style, your tells, and your entire life's history. A player who makes a completely random move every time would be by definition unreadable but they will also make bad plays every time, in which case DN could just rely on statistics and game theory to make better plays. I've seen DN play noobs and he'll just make friendly conversation and have a good time and make everyone feel at ease but I'm also sure he's probing people non-stop while he does so.
