PHOTO: stands for Light
SYNTHESIS: stands for Generate (in Greek)
So when you put them together PHOTOSYNTHESIS it means
Plants use light to generate energy.
Besides sunlight plants need water and Carbon dioxide (CO2) to get their food.
Where do you think plants get their Carbon dioxide (CO2) from? People
When we breathe oxygen in the air, the air we breathe out is Carbon dioxide (CO2)
Science behind a leaf breathing
Plants help us breathe by taking in Carbon dioxide (CO2) (for photosynthesis) and letting out oxygen through their leaves. This process is called plant respiration. The leaf uses sunlight during the photosynthesis which is where the plant converts light energy into chemical energy for the planet.
During photosynthesis, the leaf gets rid of what it doesn't need which is oxygen and water.
This oxygen is the bubbles that you see on the leaf. This bubbles is plant respiration in action!
Check out my experiment with LEAF TRANSPIRATION Experiment (what is transpiration?)

Maybe it is also interesting to have the leave half submerged and half above water. Then it is still able to take up CO2 from the air. The photosynthesis now taking place, is because the CO2 already present in the leaf, I think.

Good question. I have always used warm water, but it would be fun to see the difference if a leaf was in cold water and one in warm water. I wonder what would be the results? Have you tried cold water? Thx KEN

I’ve been trying this multiple times but it doesnt work for me for some reason 🥲 i’ve been doing exactly like what you do but it doesn’t show any bubbles for me 🥲🥲 the only difference in what i do is i put rlly hot water and the sunlight here sometimes goes away but only for a little while..

Good Morning @GivenAndaya, Sorry its not working. Let me see if I can help you to get it to work. My suggestions would be, you need more sunlight, so you might have to try this experiment when the weather gets better and you have sunlight. The leafs use the sun’s energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and sugar. The gases carbon dioxide and oxygen travel in and out of the leaf through tiny holes called stomata. When you try again in the sunlight let me know if it works? thx Ken
