Bryan & Tim, Great video. I have never used of the O2 Booster, have heard of. (We have one for our air side)I will have to check it out for our system -- Names and where to get would be helpful. Also the mix calculator that you used what is the name. (The Nitrox and trimix blending software, Imixer, I used has not continued to be supported for Ipad or android). So Im looking at new and better ones - ray Brienza SSI4612/ SDI/TDI 1712

Hey Ray. This is Tim. The booster is a Usun 15/40. You can get them factory direct from USUN but I would suggest calling South Jersey scuba as they can get it for you at the same price or better and also build the rigging you will need to suit your setup. The Mix Caculator is just part of the tool section of the Multideco App that we use when we are planning Decompression/Trimix Dives. Here is the link for that program. www.hhssoftware.com/multideco/

This seemed like a quick top up. How much drive gas do you use? It seems like in the online discussions people are buying huge shop compressors with complex air dryers to run these boosters. this was the first time I've seen one in operation.

Hello @kevindavison6019, we typically will fill very slowly whether we are just topping off or doing a complete fill from empty. As far as our drive gas goes, we usually only have to refill it about once every 2 weeks. The first staged used for the drive gas is detuned quite a bit, so the drive gas can last quite a while. As far as this video goes, we simply wanted to show the process of how a booster works.

Hi tim and bryan.I also use a dwyer dpg 111 gauge on the tank to be filled but see you have oil/glycerin filled gauges on your panel. Is this a cause for concern. Also why not use your air bank for drive gas. lastly is the scuba reg a balaced piston or diaphram ?

Hello @markdolphin1446, great questions. in regards to the gauges being oil filled, this prevents freezing during the winter time months, as our compressor room is not heated, and it keeps the needle from sticking. There is no risk of any contamination into the booster. As far as the the drive gas, it has to be regulated to a lower intermediate pressure than the valves on our cascade system can drop, plus we would have too much difficulty with back flow, as the cascade bottles are at the end of the cycle. The regulator we use for the drive gas bottle is a non balanced.

How much of a fire risk is this? Filling with 100% O2 and using a booster seems like setting up conflagration central.

no more of a risk than having the O2 bank bottles. storing O2 is an inherent fire safety risk, always follow OSHA guidelines

Hello @marcwanagas1234, great question. As you will learn in most Nitrox courses or Gas Blender courses, the risk of fire is always there. Anytime you operate with pure oxygen, certain precautions must be taken. All of our fill operators are certified Gas Blenders as well.
