Pay by bank is great, I used it for the first time this years return and used it recently to make a large purchase (log burner). It basically sends a request to your bank for the amount you need to pay then you log into your banking app separately and can approve or deny it. You don't actually give them any more details than you would normally to pay using the traditional methods.

Dunno, I'm wary. Entering my online banking logon details via a Government website is a bad move IMHO. I'm probably being paranoid. 😂

@@SmallBusinessToolbox as far as I remember I didn't need to log in to my bank on the HMRC site (I've slept since then it's all a blur 😂) I did the tax side on computer and banking on mobile so two devices which helps with separation. There's a guide on the Worldpay site that explains it. I understand though you can never be too careful sending large amounts of money around!

Andy, thank you for this video. Just checked my account and have found that I to have been charged interest for late payment back in 2010 and 2011. Be very interested to hear how you get on with HMRC. Cheers Tim

I’ve always paid directly from my bank account, to HMRC Cumbernauld with my tax reference and it shows up after a couple of days. I’ve never paid directly through their website.

Yeah, that's what I always used to do. They don't seem to advertise BACS as a payment method now. 🤔

I've used pay by bank account a couple of times now which works well. My accountant always tells me to not log in though & you input a reference number instead 🤷🏼‍♀️ I then log in a few days/a week later to check it's been assigned to my account. I find they often don't tell you things, I've had it myself where they didn't bother to notify me or my accountant who files my SA, fingers crossed you get it refunded

Yeah, HMRC used to be pretty good for notifications... seems to have gone very quiet over recent years.

I've done all my self employed tax, paid tax and national insurance though despite paying around £800 plus national insurance in with my tax bill ... the last 3 years National Insurance still shows as unpaid, as in 'gaps' ... anyone else having this problem?
