How do you get sober? (my journey)

Thank you for your story. Listening for a family member. Reminds me of the phrase “it doesn’t matter how many times you fall down. Only how many times you get back up”

The most I've ever gone is 38 days...does 7 months feel 700% better than one month sober?? I'd like to try for 8 months which will take me to the end of this year

Im 3 years sober. All i did was get away from people that created problems, Vitamins, Minerals, amino acid therapy. Been to 15 rehabs in amd out of jail and nothing worked other then that. Those places keep you in the system and drugged up ironically. Good luck to anyone out there, i feel you still after 3 years. I never forgot where i came from.

Congrats on your sobriety. I've always been envious of people who have enough discipline and desire to quit without external help (support groups, pills, etc ..). The longest I stayed sober was 8 months and that was years ago. Aside from avoiding certain people and situations, do you still find yourself actively forcing yourself to not think about alcohol and not drink?

3 weeks in and committed to sticking with it. Made a list of reasons not to drink, and I look at it daily. You have to find something to replace your drinking...i do biking, painting, golf, guitar, workouts, cooking, gardening, museums, and home projects.

Been sober over 10 years now. The depression, loss of worth, and being a crabby s.o.b. to everyone i come in contact with seems like a toss up to the drinking. Once it owns you, your insides are forever altered.

“How do we get sober?” Abstinence, ridding ourselves of resentments and making amends, avoiding people, places and things associated with drinking, belief in a Higher Power who will guide us to recovery, acceptance of what we are and creating life changes. Living our sober life one day at a time by not projecting into the future but in the NOW. I’m 35 years sober by following the listed guidelines.

I find your videos valuable as I try to come to terms with my own alcoholic addiction. I’m 25 days into my 2nd try at total abstinence. Kept trying to manage my drinking, but I must be an alcoholic because limiting my drinking seems to be beyond my abilities. Abstinence is hard, but stopping at 1 or 2 drinks is much harder. Ron

After detox (many times), the only thing that keeps me sober is A.A. So they told you to come back to detox after eight weeks? I don't get that. You would be detoxed after 5-7 days. One of the only businesses that remained open during COVID in North Carolina that was kind of non-essential was our liquor stores. They saw dollar signs for the state.
