Lol! Love the shout out. And for the record, Drac tagged quite a lot of us at the warehouse game with a stock Dart Zone Max Stryker he borrowed. When he says that's one of the best starter blasters, he means it.

I started back in 2015. I had a Strongarm, Hammershot and Retaliator by the end of the year. Noawdays, I'd honestly suggest a Villainator, 6-SH or any X-Shot blaster for someone's first blaster. My brother and I help my mom with babysitting and we've managed to get the kids we help her watch into Nerf to the point where one of them actively looks forward to it when we can go. It's a great thing to see.

@@farzan1958 if you prefer going to Target and can find one, I'd go for a Dart Zone Tomahawk. it's $30 and holds 60 darts on a massive turret. If you prefer Walmart, the Nerf DinoSquad Rex Rampage, Fortnite AR-L, and SMG-E, all of which are basically Stryfes, are half off on their website now ($20, $25 and $15 respectively). The Adventure Force Spectrum is also basically a Stryfe that hits 100 FPS and is $20 at Walmart.

For all people commenting "don't buy Nerf blasters" or "just buy Dart Zone": "Tell me you live in the US without telling me you live in US." I have just watched a little kid looking for a toy for Christmas and he was showing interest in the Nerf Mantis. His dad, at first looked puzzled, thinking what the price would be judging from the size of the blaster. Only after he saw the price of 12,98€, he replied to his kid: Nice choice! In some countries this is the only way into nerf.
You buy a Dart Zone Villainator. It's the perfect starter blaster: it hits nice and hard, holds a ton of darts for its size, and you can top it up on the fly. And it only costs $20.

As a resident airsoft tech, yea. When I was local, most of my weekend was spent working on someone else's BB Slinger. With Foam blasters, it's a lot of fun to see somebody's custom blaster that doesn't look like every other player's M4 on the airsoft field. Hell, just to stand out, I combine my love of Nerf and airsoft and use nerf shells with airsoft internals, mostly because it's different and a lot of fun to engineer something goofy.
A couple of months ago I was talking with a friend, reminiscing about childhood and Nerf blasters came up. Did some research, discovered how fun HvZ events look and decided that I was interested. Just yesterday I bought a kronos and 2 hammershots. A couple of weeks before, I got a Stryfe (And a rush40 but we don't talk about that one). Next on the list is a Takedown. I just love those designs. Guess I like secondaries haha. The Stryfe will get a whole new set of internals as soon as possible to be a primary-ish blaster though. Thank you for providing so much useful information on the state of the hobby.
My local group is The Fresh Darts of Bel Air. Cause we're in West Philly lol.
One of my favorite things about Nerf as opposed to other shooting sports is simply that all the "toy level" stuff even exists. Its cheap, easy to work on (unless its Elite 2.0) and you can use it indoors and without equipment with much of an issue. Also: All those weird blasters can make good shells or parts packs, like the Deploy! Springs galore in that chunk of garbage, even if it was never worth actually firing.
Man this is a great video to listen to. I've recently have just been modding a lot of my nerf guns from my childhood (5-7 years ago). As someone that lives in EU, nerf is a really vague topic and is difficult to acquire new blasters. Modding is highly recommended and is honestly one of the main parts of nerf hobbies and activities, tons of fun. Thank you Drac and others for these amazing mod guides.
Great job on the video, I really enjoyed this one, and I've heard many others do as well. I feel like more content like this would be a good idea. Your knowledge acquired from the length of time you've been in the hobby is well used here. :)
Hey man I just wanted to say 2023 was a big year for me learning about this hobby as a whole and you were for sure a big part of that! Just wanted you to know you’re reaching people for sure
spot on drac! as i former airsoft and paintball player i agree with you 100% the community in foam dart flinging is just great.
'NERFING' is definitely one of the 'cheapest' cost-to-entry hobbies. Even making your own LARP gear is now similar or more expensive BEFORE event costs...
I’ve been doing Nerf for almost two years now. I own around 49 blasters, and I just got an Alpha Trooper, and a military vest to carry my magazines. I still need a dump pouch though. I do plan on starting a Nerf group at my local park, as I have plenty of loaner blasters and darts. I’m only doing this because Pennsylvania has like no Nerf groups and I decided to start my own little “club”. Keep up the good work Drac. I’ll try to attend Endwar next year. I’m sad I had to miss it this year.

Yo? Kinda wanting to do nerf stuff myself in PA, but more so just messing around with nerf stock stuff just for now
I was kind of surprised you didn’t talk about the dzp mk3 for intro to fly wheelers. I mean gryphons are nicer for sure, but I think it’s an awesome “pro level” entry for the $400 budget
Thank you. I appreciate this video. Kind of goes hand in hand with the OOD beginners pages.
I found the hobby through 3D printing. While working on my CAD degree, I built a 3d printer in a class, and bought another one. I had seen some things for nerf on thingiverse, but it wasn't until i saw 3D Printing Nerd's videos with Out of Darts, and Project FDL that I took the plunge. I started with flywheel modding, because I could print my own cages and motors and flywheels were relatively cheap.
My favorite part is ammo usage, with airsoft you can easily load hundreds into a mag/drum, outside of specific weapon usage, it's mostly automatic weapons. A bit more diversity with nerf loadouts, with different ammo mag capacity available.
Awesome video, thanks for all you do for the hobby
Great hobby intro video, though I'm surprised you didn't mention the Dart Zone Pro MK-3 as an entry point into the flywheel space. For $140 you get a select fire semi-auto and full-auto hobby grade 150 FPS blaster that can run on AA batteries (preferably Eneloop rechargeables) and all it needs to feed perfectly with both full length darts and half length Talon magazines is a new pusher that you can pick up for $5 from Foamdemic on Etsy. Installing that new pusher is going to be way easier for a new hobbyist than trying to mod a stock class blaster with a new cage and flywheels, wiring harness, and all that jazz and the DZP MK-3 doesn't require you to invest in LiPo batteries and all the extra stuff they entail as well. So, the MK-3 with the new pusher, some Eneloop AAs, a belt pouch full of Talon magazines (I like the Maxpedition Mini Rollypoly myself), and a box of Dart Zone Max ruby darts from Target gets my pick for the best entry point to the hobby for someone with a $300 budget =)

Thank you, Drac, for reminding me why playing nerf. Most of the players who play nerf with me are also modders. We discuss how to modify the blasters together. Sometimes it is more interesting than shooting!
Are you going to make more nexus pro red triggers?
I have plenty of good blasters: spectrum, striker, mk. 2.1, dictator, etc (I do not mod blasters). But I can’t find any places where I can go against other people with my own blasters (I’m in Quebec) what do you suggest? Also do I need to bring my own darts?
What aftermarket flywheel-cages fit into the Barricade shell? I need muh revolver stryfe to keep up with todays modern performance.
I'm new to the hobby. As a beginner with mild experience with every Nerf series, the Nerf Rival series is the most fun and I hope they continue to introduce more Rival products
Started buying blasers this year with now over 20+. Now I just gotta find a community within NC so I get into a proper Nerf war.
@outofdarts is it possible to convert a paintball marker to shoot rival rounds while keeping it hopper fed
@Fgtfv567
Жыл бұрын
Rival rounds are much larger in diameter than a 68 cal paintball. I don't think the internals are designed for it and it'd probably be more work than it's worth.
You said there was a nerf group heat map for the US? I couldn't find the link in the description
Where is this link to a global heat map? I don't see it. It would be nice to see there are actually any clubs around me. Most seem to be in the Midwest or East Coast.
My rule of thumb is, buy dart zone. If you can find a Pre-2019 Nerf gun that has available mods so you can repair or upgrade your blaster. Dart Zone is great but sometimes it’s just nice to build your own blaster.
You had me at Emus, Drac.
As a springer player, the Orion Blasters Lynx is also a great place to start for the hobbyist $400 budget. Electronic flywheel blasters are not better than manual spring powered blasters; they each have their advantages and both see use in top level competitive play.

Correction, don’t buy NEW nerf products. There are some gems from back in the day that are still worth using, even in our 200fps+ FPS pump action springer filled ecosystem.
Want some advice on modding in particular? Go old school. Now, I’m not talking about that reverse plunger shit from back in the day, I’m talking about nitfinder and longshot, thinks like that. They are both great platforms to learn all of the ends and outs of what it takes to truly mod a nerf blaster to its full potential. However, I would strongly recommend modding the nitefinder first, just because of its extremely simple design, and it’s cheap price. The longshot is a bit more expensive and harder to mod, but once you get one shooting 200-something FPS, it really feels like you’ve accomplished something. Both are pretty cheap, have massive plunger tubes, and have tons of aftermarket parts made specifically for them(because they are so damn old). That’s not to say there aren’t other good options, it’s just that I can’t think of any others off the top of my head right now. One can usually find these in excess at eBay or at a thrift store, so they are not too hard to get. So yeah, if I was new to nerf modding, I’d start with these two, but that’s just my opinion as a springer guy.
And I'm still here, sorting out the myriad of issues with my snap-bow and rainbow pistol. The snap-bow's main issue is that the inline hopper doesn't want to feed unless I'm blowing into the end, and the rainbow pistol's main issue is that I can't find a good plunger O-ring to save my life. The only reason I'm making these in the first place though, is that almost everyone in the group I want to join has some form of homemade blaster in their arsenal, and those who don't tell me that they always feel out of place when they're there.
I've still never been to a single Nerf War/Event yet I've been collecting super super slowly for the past 6 years
Hey Drac, That community club map is a bit outdated, just wanted to mention to any of your southern California fans that in the Riverside/San Bernardino Counties there is a new club known as the Lazy Uncle's Nerf Club. Started about a year ago. Just had our anniversary war this month.
Been in the hobby since 2008-2009. Have a large N-Strike collection and a few other lines. Slightly dropped off the radar in the last few years. NON MODDER HERE. I need people to help guide me into modding, not familiar with wires or soldering or breaking stuff apart. I still have an OMW metal alpha trooper trigger I got one year but never installed. I need a buddy to help me out. My autistic self feels overwhelmed on where to start. Pittsburgh based so not sure if there are any actual clubs near me.
(question) its not that I don't like nerf or anything I love nerf, but what makes it so special? I personally like airsoft more then paintball and nerf because paintball is to messy and nerf I don't like the way the guns look. I'm not trying to say your hobby isn't cool its just a question I think your the coolest nerf modder out there.
I just started nerfing and i have like a really small arsenal, its barrely enough for 2 people to play a battle, if we play with more people we cant have secondarys. also, there are no nerf competisions in my country so i have to buy all my own ammo and stuff like that, and i can only play at home. also there are not really friends that are into the nerfing.
buy blasters you can mod later. stay away from e2.0
I only thrift !! the era of blasters that everybody is giving away is MINT !!!! Go get a maverick and start modding :) There are no groups near you so start one. Thanks Drac
Do people actually play around 150-200 fps? In my friend circle, we have enough people to hold our own wars, and Dart Zone pro level springers are the most powerful thing we use (well, there are four people who have a nexus with an upgrade spring). The only fly wheelers that we use are unmodded rival guns such as the perses and chaos (with the exception of my modded hyperfire and my brother's soon-to-be-modded demolisher).

I started buying nerf in 2023. January. (I owned some blasters years ago for a single college game but gave them away.) But I don't know if I have anyone to play with. I bought (in this order) a Double Fire, 100 waffle darts, The "Adopt Me Bees" the fortnight SMG, and just ordered the Echo and some 12 mags. I only really ordered the Echo because it was on sale for $20cad and I wanted the barrel attachment. I'm hoping to buy a demolisher to put the echo barrel on. I want to replicate the feeling of a rifle with an under slug grenade launcher. My town used to have airsoft players, I helped organize the games, but my country has outlawed the sale of airsoft guns that are based on real world weapons (so 99.999% of all airsoft guns), and even before that police cracked down on games (despite them being legal, they would harass players) and highly poisonous invasive plants came in so out of town games because dangerous. The airsoft hobby here is dead, so I'm hoping to play nerf with some people. But for now I'm just plinking.

Nerf is def more kid friendly and while I would tend to agree with you, there are a lot of milsim airsofters that are complete d-bags and look down on noobs or those with entry level gear. They drive a lot of people from airsoft. Also there are states that regulate airsoft as if they were actual firearms so it is not readily available to all and not available to those under 18. And if you are in California, they are actually kicking around significant legislative action to regulate airsoft in 2023.
