Your rent should be one paycheck. That is how I was raised. Too many people are living way out of their means. At 68 I was helped into a Section 8. When I started renting in 1977 my first rent was while I was serving the Army was $150 for a 1400 SF 2B1B apt. Today I am in 600 SF $1200 per month and on SSI. This is absolutely crazy. I am in subsidized housing and grateful I served the US Army. It is the Hud Vash program that is keeping me from Homelessness.

Bi-weekly paycheck or weekly paycheck? One is 25% of salary and the other 50%.

@@BradimooseThe answer is what you make in one week. I live on a monthly check and the VA pays a portion of my rent. I am paying 30% of my monthly check. which is one weeks pay at 30%.

A run-down apartment in a bad area can run $1,500 a month. You're paying extra for misery, stress, and unsafe conditions along with the rent. 😢 😭 😡

I rented a 3b 2ba house for 900 bucks back in 2010 over in west tampa. Right around the corner from the abc pizza.

Affordable is one week of your income in a month. My rent is a little under $1k and I make about $6k a month. I found a good deal in California for a private room and bath. Florida was too expensive when I lived there and I was only averaging about $2.4K a month with a $1.4K rent

I am blind. So I only get disability, nobody will hire me. I make $1000 a month. There are no apartments for that. It took me four years, to get into subsidize housing where I’m at now. Thank God.

Doesn't matter if they are building more homes and apartments- investment trusts will absorb them. Investors need to be kicked out of the housing market to get prices to drop.

Percentage of full time income earned. Most only make in the $35,000 range due to no union or worker rights. Families have even a harder time. I'm considering moving to a state that pays double what this state pays and has more worker protections since cost of living is so high here why struggle when you don't have to in another state.

There would be affordable housing if y’all didn’t tear down all the public housing (projects) yes it was crime infested but only in that area

That’s decent journalism! Know the difference between fact and opinion. “Affordable housing” is subjective. Notice that obtaining affordable housing doesn’t seem to be the real goal as the report often discourages moving outside of the urban areas or to a smaller place that is actually more affordable. Government intervention makes housing prices (like everything else in the free market) more expensive. Less government intervention and regulation would make housing cheaper. Encourage more building and stop using a “health crisis” (ie COVID 19) to confiscate a homeowner’s rental property.

Affordable housing is directly proportional to what education you have and the skills you can offer society.

Education doesn't mean much when few are hiring. Look at all the lay offs happening in the tech industry.

Yes but education is not free or cheap especially when people are struggling due to employment issues. Plus education doesn't mean jobs will be available. Take the great depression or the last recession for example. Many industries contracted limiting the jobs available for everyone.
