How do you cope with being a high level quadriplegic that can't move anything?

Ойын-сауық

Here's a snippet of a conversation I had with my friend Trevis about how he copes with his paralysis.

Actually, your KZread channel helps me feel less scared about becoming a paraplegic. Thank you to both of you for being willing to share your stories and lives with viewers. 💛

My 21 y/o granddaughter just got a motorcycle and i find myself praying hard for her. Also, being disabled myself, having had 7 back surgeries, I finally went with family members as my paid caregivers and its so much better. Thanks again for your videos and God bless.

Sure riding motorcycles is a not IF your going to break a bone, but how many. But you can get hurt crossing the street too. On the caregiver front I'd be careful hiring family you don't want to burn that support system out. Then your losing 2 big area's in your happiness.

I LOVE that - "find the feeling" that is key! And its an additional layer, or the driving force to finding another way to cope! YES! I'm totally adding that Golden nugget, to enhance, my "Find Another Way" mindset! SO good! ❤

Brittney, I’m glad you discovered VOLT Hockey to give you that competitive feeling, and learning a new sport that requires a lot of skill. I think most people need that. I hope that when our efforts to bring Volt Hockey to Winnipeg - most likely date is now January 2024 - that more people will get that feeling. And I look forward to a Winnipeg vs Alberta competition at some point. Practice hard Brittney and Trevis!

Brittany, I've been in my chair about 2 years now, I'm only mild disabled, the left leg doesn't function below the knee and I'm kind of not much control on the left side in general I can stand and walk with a walker not well and I tend to fall, with that said this would be a whole other Universe without your videos, you taught me tricks how to survive and you showed me it's possible do you even be happy, thank you very much

wow i am so amazed Brittany that you dont fear your level of injury becoming worse but then again i guess i don't fear having a car crash everytime I drive .....life is going to happen no matter what u do and i know most of my patients who are newly injured are still in the 'if only ' stage of recovery . your videos are so helpful in giving them a realistic view of what their lives can be

Thanks for having Trevis on again! BTW, just 2 hours ago, and I’m an A-B, my doctor and I talked about how much the world has improved for people with disabilities in the pretty recent past. Don’t get me wrong, we still have more to improve, but we are moving in the right direction IMHO!

@@2p2walkThanks for sharing Trevis. I find it interesting that many people with a disability seem to have mostly friends with a disability. My wife is disabled and I think only 2 of her many friends have a physical disability and both are not visible disabilities - post-polio and MS in full remission so to speak. And I wondered how Brittney socially came to terms with becoming a paraplegic - same question as I posed to you.
