I've been trying to ignore certain unhealthy thoughts for over a year. I'd feel bad because of the chemicals (emotions) generated and then I'd feel bad for feeling bad and for not being able to ignore these thoughts and focus on other things. It was a REAL NIGHTMARE... I tried all the principles to understand that these thoughts weren't worth the attention: -There are things you can't control -You're who you are not what people think -Embrace change ... and more. I'd fight these thoughts for a few days or weeks and then I'd give up and entertain them for weeks and feel terrible. Overtime, I've always been trying to overcome this. Right now I've been once again trying for weeks to think better and create better thought patterns to feel better and make better vital choices in my life. I've been thinking and saying out loud (eyes closed, visualization, emotion) every morning all I'm grateful for (even things I don't have yet, as if I already had them). It worked. I started to feel better, I see things from a different perspective and appreciate things more. But I admit I still had a hard time focusing on any given activity I'd be doing during my days, because thoughts would come and I was used to entertain them... and THEN I found this video a few days ago... and this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pIdmpKd7j5DKdrA.html ... The second he said the chemicals released by thoughts only last for 6 seconds before they "expand" and make you think more and feel more of that (good or bad)... I was speechless... coudn't believe it. Six seconds seemed achievable. I started to practice this: If you INTENTIONALLY and IMMEDIATELY just focus on WHATEVER IT IS YOU'RE DOING or just THINK OF SOMETHING DIFFERENT... FOR. SIX. SECONDS... the undesired thought will go away and take its emotions with it. -Don't try to argue with the thought -Don't punish yourself for having these thoughts again -Don’t do the breathing technique because you know you have to spend time on it and you'll feel bad for having to do it. -Don't give yourself a pep talk -Don't even explain yourself why it's not worth it! Just focus on something else for 6 seconds... It's unbelievable... works like MAGIC! I have to say though that: 1- Thankfully I found these videos at a moment in my life in which I've been practicing gratitude when waking up and when going to bed for weeks, I'm in the best mood I've been for over a year. So if you can find some kind of routine that sets your mood for the day, I'd say it's necessary. 2- I know and really understand myself and where my thoughts come from so I know they're not worth my time. I've given them a big deal of introspection. I think that knowing the 6 seconds thing worked so fast for me because of these two things. So, if you can, 1-find a healthy mental routine and 2-come to terms with your past or whatever it is that's creating your thoughts... And then just FOCUS. ON YOUR TASK. AT HAND. Overtime, your brain will get better at ignoring certain things and focusing on others, it'll get STRONG. That's why they call it a strong mind, it has the strength to make the right move. And you'll see that happiness is really an inside mental game. That's all there is. Love this channel, you saved my life, THANK YOU! Best of luck for you all! You CAN be happy, and it ONLY depends on yourself!

when relate this to computer science, I imagine it's like cache machanism like it store a map between the input parameter and the output so it doesn't have to compute again. Similar with the brain it stores a map between the events outside or our thoughts as input and the output is our emotion or actions, so it's automatically executed without being processed by our brain

This is very powerful. Today I started an exercise to see if I can destroy some patterns that I dislike in my subconscious programming. I listed thoughts that I am having that bother me, so i can become more aware of them on a daily basis. So whenever I have one of the same one I can catch them & ignore them so i can create a disconnection with the neurons associated with this thoughts that bring about limiting beliefs & negative emotions of hopelessness & anxiety. My experiment will first consist and the awareness of the patterns including certain people , life Categories images & phrases. I hope I can expand my awareness even more since now I am going to use those negative patterns as a way to remember that who am I is a conscious being that can have the ability to change whenever I want to. :) Wish me luck and good luck to those who are trying to change there neuro-patterns and associative thoughts.

@@SixSeconds Thank you all so much, I love six seconds with all my heart. Could you please consider doing a video on how to develop emotional literacy and how learning to recognize and name the many different feelings and emotions, can change our nervous system and the way we respond to those feelings? I'd also love to learn more about emotions and our subconscious thoughts that influence what we do and how we make decisions. Maybe something that explains the competencies related to the Iceberg metaphor; and that learning how to be more aware of what is driving the behavior of ourselves and others can change the way our brain and nervous system function? How about if the patterns are physical? (Because our bodies are where our repressed emotions play out). My brain has created multiple bodily patterns (eye symptoms, shoulder pain, ear ringing, numbness, shallow breathing) as well as general anxious feelings. I’ve read multiple books, watched videos, etc. and nothing is helping to get rid of these ingrained patterns, which keeps fear and anxiety alive. I could use your help and knowledge. Thank you. 🙏🏼

Thanks Josh. I love your positive spirit and depictive explanation. For me, I am trying to observe myself. When I feel impulsive, for instance, I now begin to even look closer and make myself wait longer before I react (concrete example: when I receive an email/comment, that raises strong emotions in me, I keep my response at least sleeping 1 night over it, before I send it out. This helps me to bring more clarity and peace in the meanwhile).
