The problem with Trump is the same problem that we've always had: our inability to place sanctions on the ultra rich. Congress engages in insider trading, Trump foments an insurrection, and the Supreme Court provides cover, the United States invades Iraq and then condemns Russia for doing the same. If we cannot hold these people to account, then the only rules that exist are the power of the dollar, which overrides the norms and mores that holds society together.

Please explain how he'd be forced to recuse himself or be removed. As it so often happens on social media, a female user is showing an inexcusable ignorance about our political system rules and regulations and engaging in wishful thinking even though the number of smart and knowledgeable women in public life has been comparable to that of men. Recusal is left to the personal discretion of the SCOTUS justices while impeachment is practically impossible since conviction requires a two-thirds vote in the Senate.

The only way to remove a Federal Judge, including Supreme Court Justices, is Impeachment by the House and conviction (by 2/3 majority) in the Senate. As long as the Republicans hold a majority in the House, they will never allow Impeachment of a conservative. And as long as they hold more than 1/3 of the Senate, they will never allow conviction, no matter how clear the evidence is. This was made obvious by Trump’s Impeachment trials.

There is a short & simple form to lodge complaints against federal judges (Alito, Thomas & Cannon). Search for “AO 310 us courts” to get the judicial complaints form. It’s short & simple to complete. The legal basis for complaints against Alito, Thomas & Cannon can be breach of 28 U.S. Code § 455 “Any justice, judge, or magistrate judge of the United States shall disqualify himself in any proceeding in which his impartiality might reasonably be questioned.”

As a Canadian, I can't imagine my Supreme Court being this partisan. Our judges are nominated by civil servants based on experience, then rubber stamped either the Prime Minister or Justice minister. We don't televise committee meetings, so we barely know (or care) who our judges are. American justice seems corrupted. Justice is for all of us.

The Senate needs to force the Supreme Court to accept at least the same code of ethics that all other federal judges must comply with. Despite claims by Justice Roberts the court has demonstrated repeatedly that they are not able to self regulate their actions and behaviour. The justices are federal employees and should have binding guardrails and professional standards the same as other employees that receive a federal pay check.

Thank you both! My grandfather was a Pearl Harbor survivor and passionate about the flag and the flag code. He went around in his retirement teaching kids about the importance of respecting the flag. As much as I miss him, I'm grateful he got to die with Obama in the white house and never knew the orange traitor was an incoming threat. It’s not like one small group that his dept. can go after…. If you are wanting to see justice working properly, you need to vote against the culprits, and vote for candidates who fight legislation that cuts funding to important departments, such as the DOJ, the IRS, the FBI…. That would be a positive step forward in helping people, like Garland, to go after these criminals. Apparently, it also means something else. Whatever he meant, Samuel Alito, as a Supreme Court Justice, should have remained absolutely neutral. That "Ethics Code," such as it is, wasn't in effect then--but he should still have kept his opinions to himself.

Trump succeeded in placing enough judges to begin to shift the ideological makeup of the judiciary, including on two appellate courts. Under Trump, the 11th circuit (Alabama, Georgia and Florida) has gone from a Democratic majority to a 6-6 split, and the 3rd circuit (Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware) went from a 7-5 Democratic majority with two vacancies to what is likely to be a 7-7 split.

Will NOT be surprised if treasonous Thomas is ousting Alito to redirect the focus away from Thomas himself. Shady corrupted judges and greed know no limits. Everyone will be talking about Alito while Thomas and his wife will be forgotten momentarily.

Roosevelt‘s big mistake is he left the big corporate structure in place. These behemoths capable of raising vast sums of money were left structurally in place so they could continue building their political war chest and influencing the government over the last decades. Corporations were originally supposed to be project oriented, in which many businesses related to particularly big projects that the government would do good cool their resources and come together and achieve these bigger social and societal projects. Then they were supposed to be disband after the project. But instead, they were allowed to continue to hold onto their incorporation together to form these gigantic organizations who even though they were regulated to some degree became giant capital machines who could choose their own projects now with the capital that they raised. Creating shareholders and boards CEOs and powerful legal departments, they were able to use capital to influence government through lobbyists and campaign contributions. Those very activities used to tip their hand to the American public, until of course the Roberts court gave them anonymity in citizens united. And now these hidden powerful influencers and controllers are trying to take over the government so that we not only live in an economic oligarchy but a political oligarchy in which the rich ruled the rest. And they’re trying to do it the way all fascists take over governments by twisting and manipulating the laws with corrupt courts and corrupt politicians.

When you have politicians in control of the appointment of judges you can be sure that corruption will result as partisan politics should have NO place in the judicial system. It used to be dependent on morality and ethics that honesty and honour would be preserved. In today's world ethics and morals seem to have disappeared. The result is catastrophe. The Judicial system is no longer independent and offers absolutely no safeguard as a counterweight to politics and as a result democracy as a governing system is threatened.

The Trump election conspiracy trial in Georgia, whenever it finally starts, will be televised. But Trump’s lawyers have appealed to the GA Supreme Court about Ms. Willis’s suitability as the prosecutor. And that court’s ruling will probably be after the election, and might not happen until 2025.

Many of the insurrectionists who broke into the Capitol were carrying flagpoles with upside down US flags. It has become a symbol for gullible people who believe Trump’s big lie that he won the 2020 election. Apparently Alito and his wife are either that gullible, or just wanted to show their allegiance to the MAGA cult.

My son was a Boy Scout growing up. He is still saddened by folks who imagine themselves as flagbearers and put flags on their vehicles. The flags blow off into the roads, and the next "flag bearer" just drives over them.

From across the Atlantic, and as someone who finds Trump utterly offensive in just about every way, might I suggest that if you want to "overcome" his "squalor", your Democrats should stop trying to outdo his squalor in novel ways of their own? The US is very hard to love these days. And that's putting it mildly.
