Ahlan, I love seeing Ney making is still done by hand. My story of ney actually begins long ago but me actually playing started only just a few weeks back. What surprises many people especially with the plastic ney( since it does look like a broom handle pipe with holes) is that if made of correct plastic it makes sharp sound and how wide of a range you can play( mine is kiz makat( ottoman makat not Arab) ( b in western) but nice part is it can go as low as a or as high as d ( though the d is quite difficult to achive and a requires a lot of breath technique). I love the passion Ney makers have no matter the material Ney is always made by hand( well except the touristy ones made by robots from ply wood and make zero sound( just decortive) I think its the only instrument to my knowledge that is still exclusively made by hand ( I love your tutorials by the way , before I found them I wanted to return my ney since it sounded bad( but turns out it was me not the instrument that was doing wrong)..

Such a unique video, story & explanations. I could watch it even if it was 2 hours long. Excellent one.

Reed may have better overtones and all that, but heck - all I got access to is PVC pipe! But wait a minute - I think I've seen that kind of reed growing wild in the canyons of southern California!

Hello, I am from Argentina and it is impossible to get an Arabic Ney here. I'm thinking of building one out of PVC. Do you have a table with the precise location of the holes? I found a site with the measurements of the Persian Ney, but nowhere those of the Arabic Ney. Thank you very much in advance!

Their are no differences an Arabian Ney is the same is an Arabian Flute

I'm sure a professional woman could also produce the ney precisely. Very nice video! I can't wait to buy my first ney. Hugs from Greece.

Hi! Great vlog guys. Niri if you are reading this, I have a question for you. What is the proper technique for making very low notes on a ney? I tried playing low notes but its not strong. And its hard to hear. Do you have any tips for that? Btw thanks alot for the tutorials they help alot! Maybe this is a good idea to make a tutorial about. But anyway nice vlog we would love to see more. Cheers!

Low notes are the hardest of them all I would recommand the kiz ney since its range is dual octave( tuned in key of si( on makat scale) or b in western music but can go in range of a,b,c so three scales in one which is nice( a is the nice mellow notes you want)
