How Do School Bus Drivers Remember Their Bus Routes?
Пікірлер: 192
When I was in third grade we had a substitute bus driver for the ride home. He was given the wrong route and ended up at a random cul-da-sac where no one got off. After trying to contact the bus company to give the correct route, a forth grader who was the last stop actually told the bus driver all of the stops and directions
When I was a new driver, nothing pissed me off more than a route sheet that was not correct because regular driver never turned in the corrections they made to the run.
It's easy to remember, when you drive the same route everyday.
I've taken the time to do my own run-sheets that I keep in a folder on my bus for my subs. I go into as much detail as possible, including using house descriptions and landmarks (ex: Slow down at 40mph sign, activate yellows at next road sign, stop at mailboxes). 1/2 of my route is rural before finishing in a new sub division, so that part can be EXTREMELY tricky especially during the dark winter mornings.
Happy holidays claw and to everyone else reading this :)
I've been loving the bus content!
Hi clawboss I love your videos I've been subscribed for 5 years and I just wanted to tell you thank you for making these videos for such a long time thank you
Love these videos man.
Cool video claw thank you
I love ur vids bro😊
I’m a bus aide in NJ. Since I work PT, I ride with lots of sub drivers. It’s actually quite common for drivers to change up a route based on their judgments and convenience. Some operators note the changes on the paper, others do not! One thing that bugs me is that the directions are not that detailed. For my drivers, it shows the street names and which way to turn, but not the distance in between! Operators need to be paying close attention to the route to not make a mistake. Some companies have built-in GPS systems on their buses where the route is already downloaded and no paper is needed!

Yea, my grandad dad works for the county operating the trucks that spray mosquitoes and they literally have gps that shows them where to go with lines that go everywhere they need to go and the line changes color where they’ve been so they can pickup where they left off the next day
Your awesome love the videos
yo keep up the good work
Happy holidays man
Hi clawboss thanks for the info
Enjoyed your content since you made the arcade style videos keep the good work up
I've always wanted to know how school bus drivers knew their routes.
Keep it up brother
As a sub driver (who has indeed gotten lost in the dark at 5am) I usually tell the kids to tell me where to go. Sometimes I get a bus where there's a kid who knows the whole route back to front, and sometimes the kids aren't paying attention and I'm alone with the paper. On that note, idk about y'all, but my papers ALWAYS need edits because regular route drivers apparently can't be bothered to update them. Rip my sanity lmao.
our system has tablets in the bus, automatically signed into the bus number, and puts the route for the morning/afternoon and gives directions, and shows where the stops are/who gets on/off. And students also have a ID type card that we can which tells the system that we are on/off the bus

This is awesome. Can't wait for this technology to spread.
I Was starting with this company. He expected me to learn 50 stops within 4 days.I'm not kidding you and he didn't give me paper. Just previous driver showing me..They expect me to memorize it.I feel like they're trying to take advantage of me and bully me I'm going to quit
Best wishes for the holiday and new year
Drove a bus years ago before all the technology and occasionally did a sub route they were nightmares because the kids would get you purposely lost
Happy holidays!
Here in Michigan the school district I’m at allows you to get a office bus stop change pass that allows you to get dropped off at a different stop once a written note from the parent n or a call to the office from the parent has been made the student is allowed to get a bus stop change pass and that allows the bus driver to drop off the student at a different stop otherwise it’s as fallowed on the directions given to the pus driver by the bus garage.
In elementary school if you weren't on the bus they'd be concerned, but in middle and high your either there or not.
When you do the same thing 2x a day, it's easy lol!
And of course my favorite bus is a 2021 IC CE.
I love coawbose videos there zing and I like learn about buses like this
Claw boss ❤
I had a sub route about a month ago that was a disaster. Turns out I found out from 1 of the students at the end that I worked the route backwards eventhough I drove it according to the paper 🤦🏾♀️🙄
12 and remember my bus route (In a video game 🤣)
Good
I don't like when a bus driver from the year before he makes extra stops, then I'm the bad person for following what's on my paper! We are not allowed to make up stops due to safety.
Here in Philadelphia our route sheets look nothing like that it had just have the information and the name and the address for the kids no directions for regular drivers that's fine cuz they know the route but the standby they have to use GPS on their phone 👍
I've always wondered this, thanks for the information!
Have you heard from gta franklin
Hello. I actually have wondered how this happened.
We aren't allowed to use GPS mounts, or any type of mount on the windshield or dash. No GPS, no dash cams, nothing, not even stickers. We had a driver get fired for having a magnetic cup holder. I figured it was just that strict out there. This is the state of Ohio, and management says its the state law. We do have tablets but they are actual hot garbage and they have to be in the mount on the floor and are hard to see while driving. We have to use all the company made apps and can't access anything else (like google maps, waze....etc...).

This is actually something I was wondering today and it popped up in my subscribed page, thanks for making this!

Ha ha. The first thing that I was told as a driver and the first thing that I tell new drivers....throw the run sheets in the trash. They're usually wrong.
How can I save route on my iPhone

I agree. Thomas is great then Blue Bird. IC is junk.
Oh yeah this is so true some drivers make their own route and they make a disaster
Favorite School Bus doesn’t exist yet: propane pusher about 75% the size of a 71 cap conventional plus a wheelchair ramp.
I drive a 2019 Bluebird

Lol, 2016 here
@clawboss that's what I did l. My driver's always told me when they weren't going to be there and that I might need to help them. Because I was one of the last ones to get off the bus and I sat right behind the driver all the time

So if the substitute driver didn't really know where they were going, I helped them get there
love the content!
Definitely not a ps person but still be cool to win something lol 🎉
I want the ps5 lol
My favorite boss is probably the 2024 IC CE 😁. I probably watch your vids more than any other KZreadr 🫡😊
How are you doing
I was a security officer for ABQRide would help with detours and so on. We called the time sheet a pattleboard and of course it never changed. I know Public transit is diffrent then being a school bus driver, but learning the system was nice. When you are put into their day to day, you have more respect and understanding.
hi
Nice job Clawboss!

Your awesome keep up the good work
All ways wonderd this thanks 🙏
My company has us do dry runs before the school year starts. They have us go out in a van first, get the lay of the land, then drive it in a bus to get our times down. We then have to make Turn by Turns for the route in case anyone has to cover our route. Our Route Sheets have the students' names, their schools and their stops, but not phone numbers or any other info like that. I believe in Ohio we're not allowed to carry that kind of information on the bus. My company also does not allow us to contact parents directly. We have to radio dispatch to call a parent if they're late or we're early. I have one kid on my bus this year that is a total geek for school buses. He knows my whole route from his stop (second stop in the mornings, third last in the afternoon) all the way to the schools. He has helped both drivers who have had to cover my route.
Nice Vid bro 😮
I love Clawboss
Happy holidays!!
Been watching you for a while, you seem to be enjoying life.
Great video
Your awesome dude.... And the true deal....
I'm that kid that helps out a substitute driver mailny because ive been on that bus since ive been going to school and the route has never changed besides some stops went and came but im always the one that sits up there and helps them out even tho this new technology my district has by having a gps in all the busses and shows the route that is not aways correct. But i love helping the driver and i hope on being one in the future hopefully.

I was this kid too. Funny thing one time he got lost in an area so I offered to him "I know how to get out of this area, just go down this road and turn left here. Some kid on the bus behind me was looking at me like "wtf you doing? That's not where the bus is supposed to go." Yes kid. The bus isn't supposed to go that way, but the bus driver made a wrong turn so he is going that way, all I was doing was instructing him how to go around the block instead of turning around.
I was the one who help the sub on my bus
My bus driver always invented new stops
be kind and love ur bus drivers
Some kids don’t get it I do tho
I love this
Happy Holidays
