How Do I Unsubscribe from All These Unwanted Emails?

Ғылым және технология

☑️ There are emails from which you should certainly unsubscribe if you no longer want them. However, there are emails that you absolutely should never unsubscribe from. I'll review the difference.
☑️ When to unsubscribe
- Never “unsubscribe” from spam. It will only result in more spam.
- Unsubscribe from things you originally subscribed to or for which there was a legitimate business relationship.
- Mark spam as spam. That’s all.

For gmail just create a filter and select "Delete it", you'll never see it again.

The annoying part with some email services is that they sometimes merge the "report as spam" and "unsubscribe" folders, and there's no pattern as to when or why they do that.

I use mailwasher pro. If an email contains a word like Viagra in the subject line, it's auto deleted. You can't just block the email address, the same email comes with a different sender's email address. Once your email address is on their list, nothing you can do other than what I said, find a word always used in their subject line.

Only unsubscribe from reputable senders. You can create "rules" that will automatically put e-mail into a particular folder.

A tip I think it's useful to whoever landed here: if it suits your taste and you find it convenient, have another e-mail adress, one for essentials: family, online marketplaces login, monthly subscriptions...) and another for everything else. If divulving your mail on the Internet for everyone to see and contact, as an on-line business for instance, separate it from the more private one, if not, keep business to the main one. That helps separating spam messages from important mails, of course, that doesn't help if you're using both combined to deliver messages to the same app.

2:30 but, don't forget to scroll through your spam folder to check for false positives - good email marked as spam. I find that email from my domain are constantly marked as spam by my friends that have gmail. Also, learn to create email filters.

Outlook in win 11 does not give you the option to select spam. The older version of outlook gave you the option to create a rule to send to either spam folder or trash.

Win11 with New Outlook. No option to send to Spam folder. It does have a "Report as Junk" option, however, after several weeks of picking this option, it seems to have no effect. I have no expectation the system will unsubscribe me, but I should be able to blacklist unwanted mail.

@4:26 -- Regarding not seeing the images in a message that you open: Sometimes you will see images, and sometimes you will not see images. Sometimes you will see a few images, but not all of the images. It depends on the source of the images. If the images are embedded in the e-mail message, then you will see those embedded images. That is fine, and the sender will not know that you saw those images, any more than the sender will know that you saw the text of the e-mail message. However, if the images are displayed via links in the e-mail message, where your e-mail program uses the links to download the images, then the computers from where the downloading is sourced will know that you displayed those images. They will know that you are a live one -- that you have an active e-mail address. If your e-mail program offers you to view images, or you have to click something to view the images, then if you proceed, you will be downloading those images from some internet server, and you will be revealing that you did so. So is is fine if you see images when you open an e-mail message, when those images are embedded in the e-mail message. One cautionary note: Your e-mail program might have a setting where you can tell it to automatically download images. If you enable that, then you are telling the sender that you are there, every time you open their e-mail messages. It is a convenient feature that lets you see your e-mail messages in all their glory. So you might like that feature. Just know that you are letting the sender know each time that you open their messages.

Very helpful, especially concerning fake unsubscribe buttons. How do I deal with this situation where a certain retailer whose credit card I have constantly bombards my inbox with “offers” and promotions. I would like to be rid of those but I’m afraid that if I unsubscribe I will stop getting notices about my credit card account and that’s not good. Said retailer owns the bank that issued the credit card.

Hi, I have a problem with my file explorer on Windows 10 and I hope you can make a video about it: Whenever I go to documents in File Explorer and double-click to open a folder, the folder doesn't open to its respective location to show the files inside. Instead, I would double-click on a folder and the quick access tab opens up. Or, if I search "Control Panel" in the search bar at the bottom left and click enter to open it up; instead of opening to the control panel, it opens up quick access. Another scenario is if I right-click on an application and click "open file location"; instead of taking me to the file location, it takes me to the quick access page. Please make a video about this because I can't find anything about it anywhere! Every other tutorial I watch shows me how to switch the File Explorer general opening tab from "quick access" to "this pc" and that's not what I want to do.

The problem is that occasinally I receive vulgar emails that I do not want on my personal pc and certainly not on my work pc if I should happen to check my email while at work. Some email systems will intercept spam and vulgarity before delivery to my inbox but this is not consistant. Do you know of any that do "pre-filtering"?

Spammer(s) are sending me markets 'newsletters'. I used to unsubscribe but they would just subscribe me to other newsletters. Seriously, I've unsubscribed to 50+ of these things. I think I reached 20 emails/day before I didn't engage any longer and now I'm down to 4 or less per day, which is tolerable.

It can notify the sender that your email has been opened. In the case of spam that confirms your email address is "real", and can lead to more and more spam.

I've wondered about this for a long time. Even mass mailers via snail mail have to pay postage. Yep - set a free threshold and then charge progressively (in advance) beyond that limit.

You can usually safely LOOK at e-mails if auto-image-display is set to off, but if you have ANY doubt, do NOT click on ANY of the links, not even the UNSUBSCRIBE link. You can HOVER over the link at look at the true URL (the true URL usually shows up near bottom of your e-mail program, but this can vary) to get an idea if the link is legit or not. But, really, if you want to go to the vendor's site, use a URL that YOU have saved from the REAL site - don't trust links in an e-mail unless you are 100%++ sure it is a legit e-mail (and even then it is still best to use a link you have previously saved). Think of spam as junk-mail that we receive in our U.S. Mail physical mailbox - we didn't ask for it, we usually can not stop it, we just have to deal with it.

This is why "double opt in" exists. That's the message you get when signing up that says "confirm your email address" or "confirm you really want this". Unfortunately not all email lists use double opt-in. I've no problem marking those as spam for not following industry standard.
