Nele has the problem that Timberlake can be ridden better on one hand than on the other. This is mainly due to the natural skew of the horse, because every horse is a bit crooked in itself.
Heiko Schmidt-Sentek goes into Nele's problem in more detail and has a little tip for her, which will enable her to ride her pony more evenly on both hands.
General information for you:
- If the bits are correctly fitted, there should be no more than 0.5cm space between the corner of the mouth and the bit ring on the right and left. With loose ring snaffles, the bit ring should be able to slide freely through the ring hole and not pinch the mouth. Bits with fixed side parts (e.g. D-shaped bits) should always be one size smaller than loose ring snaffle bits. The best effect of these bits is achieved when the side piece lies relatively close to the mouth.
- The width of the bit should always be adapted to the anatomical conditions. The mouth of a horse is smaller and flatter than you think. It is NOT possible to draw conclusions about the size of a horse's mouth from its size. With the help of the 2-finger test, as explained in the video, you can easily find out for yourself how much space your horse has in his mouth and which bit size you should choose.
