How DNS Works
A look at something you've just used, DNS!
Note in my demo I request just the child part of the FQDN that the name server is authoritative for to avoid any cached entries return the final resolution too soon but as I said in the whiteboard the full FQDN is asked each time and you just get referred to the next nameserver down.
👂 I have manually updated the captions to be as accurate as possible. Enable the subtitles and from there you can translate to your native language via the auto-translate feature in settings! • KZread Captions and A... for a demo of using this feature.

I searched Bing (company policy) for "John Savill DNS" because I figured if I wanted a good intro video to share with people, that combination of words would get me what I wanted. And I was right.
Sending this to my buddy - This is for you BranchHammer!! "It isn't DNS, It can't be DNS..... It was DNS!"

Felt like studying for the 70-215 exam again back in the day when I saw the Netscape t-shirt 😂 I enjoy reinforcing old topics. Great video.
Love this - reminded me of the old 5-day TCP/IP MOC class I used to teach 20+ years ago. Gosh, I miss that class!!!!

Great video, so useful. It would be great if you do more videos like this one, not only focusing on Azure but also explaining the concepts and technologies that are behind. Thanks for the amazing content!!
Awesome job demonstrating and explaining DNS, John! I've been doing this a long time, but a great refresher is never a bad thing. I, and many others, appreciate your tireless efforts!

Thanks sir! One of the many bit of "magic" that makes the world work, just imagine if we were all having to remember and type in IP addresses for everything! Thanks for the fantastic, detailed explainer on this that we can point people towards.

When are you going to write an Azure book?

wrote one years ago on Azure but no real interest in writing another using traditional publishing as too bigger lag and can't update.

@@NTFAQGuy Learnpub allows authors to keep their books up to date but I get youir point. Books are difficult to write and keep up to date. I learn better by reading rather than watching videos, that's why I ask. Cheers
