Quote of the Day from Jordan Mann: “Ngongba won’t get rushed back because he’s coming off of foot surgery.” So you’re telling Duke fans that a kid WHOSE ALREADY PLAYED in 3 games since the foot surgery…. That HE WON’T BE READY BY NOVEMBER????? I mean where do you find these people???? 😅😅😅😅😅😅 THATS NEARLY A HALF YEAR FROM NOW! 6 months…. And again, he’s already played!!! No Doctor would endorse him to play first week of April if his foot was questionable. He’s got all summer and fall to keep improving his game. I mean seriously, what are we talking about here????? Lmao! In fact, Ngongba played so well that the coach didn’t want to take him out of the game. He was only supposed to get limited minutes in his return but he was such a difference-maker the coach played him much longer than expected. Here is another bad quote: “Ngongba is a below the rim player.” And before you give analysis on Kon Knueppel, why don’t you learn to say his name first??? If you’ve watched his games, not only would you have a better understanding of what type of guys Jon has this year, but you’d also know how his name is pronounced. Maliq Brown is a very very good addition. He could easily start. He’s one of the highest IQ players Duke has this year. But he’s not 6’11” and he’s nowhere close to 250lbs, guess we’ll see how reliable the Chipotle National reporters are when we get the official player profile stats when Ngongba makes his way to Durham. Again I’m not opposed to injecting Brown into the starting 5. It’s true, Brown was All ACC Defensive team for a reason. Mainly because he’s a 4 playing excellent defense out of position at the 5 spot and he did it at a high level. He’s more agile and has better footwork than Ngongba. He’s a more polished, versatile defender that’s for sure. But you don’t necessarily need that with Flagg and Malauch helping. You need girth. Brown has elite passing skills, and he anticipates very well which enables him to get steals and blocks. He’s good at cleaning up the boards or getting 2nd chance put backs. But he’s also playing heavy minutes at the 5 so you kind of expect those results. Both Brown and Ngongba have great touch, super soft hands, and a beautiful 3PT shot for low volume perimeter shooters. But I wouldn’t hesitate to give either the green light if left open. I can’t say the same for Maluach. Again, Brown is a great player, very capable starter, but I play Ngongba because he is a pure 5. He has the physicality to bang with a real Big. Brown doesn’t have a post game. Brown doesn’t have a midrange game. Ngongba has both and is reliable. Defensively, you have Malauch and Flagg who are excellent weak side defenders. They get most of their blocks from weak side help. But Ngongba averages nearly 2 blocks a game himself. Brown averages nearly 1 block (.9). Brown is more of a below the rim player than Ngongba! What I do agree with is that this team could look like Jon Scheyer’s first year team (2 years ago). But this is a way better, more advanced version offensively. Key is limiting TO’s mainly related to Malauch. Foster shot 38% from 3 in HS. He shot nearly 41% last year. McCain was a 41% 3PT shooter in HS, last year he shot 41%. Flip was a 28% 3PT shooter in HS, freshman year he shot 28%. Roach never a good shooter UNTIL last year. Guys are generally who they were senior year in HS as they are FR in college. Cooper Flagg shoots 38% from 3. Proctor is already improving. Harris is just as good a 3PT shooter as McCain, maybe better, but he can’t probe the paint like McCain which makes him nearly one dimensional. K2 is a 40% 3PT shooter. Evans is a 43% 3PT shooter. Gillis, yet another good shooter. DUKE ALREADY HAS GOOD SHOOTERS. DO THEY HAVE A GUY THAT CAN GET TO THE RIM/BREAK DOWN A DEFENSE AND BE CLUTCH IN TIGHT GAMES???? Maybe Evans, Foster or Proctor can be THAT guy. But you don’t say Portal Players are “asking for too much.” They aren’t expecting anything different than a 5 star recruit expects. The real question you should be asking is do we have the right formula for winning a championship? Either way, love Jon Scheyer and excited for the product he will bring us this season.

Proctor and Foster will play 30 minutes a piece and can both play the point so there will be very limited minutes with both guys off the court at the same time. There will be injuries but in those situations I have faith that Kon, Harris and Gillis will be able to step up and take on the 2nd guard minutes, including a few here and there handling the PG responsibilities. Maluach and Ngongba should form a nice 1-2 punch at the 5. I’m not expecting much scoring from either of them but they will both rebound and block shots from day 1. Flagg, Evans and Brown will be a 3 headed monster at the 3/4 with flag getting the majority of the minutes while being able to play the 3 alongside Brown and the 4 with Evans. That’s 8 solid rotation pieces with Kon and Harris vying for the opportunity for more PT as well. If they could add a veteran guard who can handle the ball it would be nice. But I do think adding another big man that could step in for injured players or when they face fouls trouble would be more of need at this point.

Same--the number of players that Jon will play is already on the roster and more... a couple added for having strong practices is all that's needed. The sales pitch is to transfers that won't ever sniff the NBA and say come finish up here and leave with a Duke degree.

What Duke really lacks at this point is a downhill guard (can penetrate at ease) Neither Proctor nor Foster has shown they can penetrate efficiently. The best guard at portal available is Kadary Richmond but I kinda doubt he will want to go to Duke though. Another big is a plus two possible targets are Supreme Cook and Ajogba (Harvard) both are pure bruisers can and willing to bang inside.

@@kohsiudai8196 100%, neither of our guards are threats driving the lane. Roach wasn’t going to rise up and dunk on anyone but at least he would take it to the rim occasionally to keep the defense honest. Missing on VJ really hurt there. I like the big man from Harvard.

This DUKE squad is almost perfectly assembled we just need another guard who attacks the rim that can create for himself and others that's the only thing missing. If Cooper and Khaman are who the "experts" say they are it's going to be a fun season in Durham.

Coach Scheyer will fill out his roster with great players. I feel like Jack Clark (NC State/Clemson) would be a good fit, as would Kadary Richmond, and BJ Freeman.

It's quite apparent that Coach Scheyer isn't having any issues selling 5-star players on signing with the Bluebloods of Duke. Even with an All-Star roster, he's still signing BIGTIME TRANSFER PLAYERS.

Duke needs to bring in a Veteran Center or 2. 6'11. 7 foot plus. Im.not even sure if there's even any still out in the transfer portal. But I most definitely think we need 1 or 2 who's physical and has height and girth... ohhh and btw.. who can switch out and guard perimeter players. Lol. Am I asking 4 too much?? 😂😂😂 😂 but on a serious note.. I know we have the 7 ' 1 freshman coming in. But he might take a bit to transition to college basket. So I always believe having a Veteran in his position is a plus. We sould aquire Kyle Filopowski s brother. I heard he wanted to transfer and was considering Duke a 7 footer junior who can bang inside. Hopefully we have a back up.or 2 centers. Because u never know

He needs to learn how to beat teams like State and UNC that have less talent. After Hubert lost in the championship game people were calling for his job. This Guy just win the ACC chip and he's the best great but has fell short of Unc and State going further than his team

I have to admit.... Hubert Davis has surprised me. I thought he caught lightning in a bottle during that Title game a few years back, but thought the Heels were on a downward spiral. Boy was I wrong!! There is a " toughness " about UNC that Duke has lacked under Sheyer thus far. I like the addition of Gillis,& Brown. Nothing wrong with a scrappy 3 star to balance out the roster.
