I love how Story 15 is about this really clever, fast-thinking woman and then Story 16 is about someone who soaked the robber in gasoline and was gonna light him on fire.

I just made a comment about this but my grandpa had a similar story. He worked at a gas station and one of the attendants was being held at gun point. So he took the gas nozzle, sprayed the area and HIMSELF not even the guy who was threatening him, and pulled out a lighter. Apparently, this is actually an effective way to get robbers to leave. Until the right jackass robber comes along that is

My dad had a story about a time when a hichhiker pulled a knife on him and he just steps in the gas and says go ahead we'll both die. So years later when a hichhiker asks me what I would do if he pulled a knife with his hands in his pockets,I had an answer.

I was dating someone who turned out to be a total yandere. He proposed and I knew that if I didn't say 'yes', then he'd probably try to kill me. (He actually did threaten it once) So I did. Then he started saying that we should elope and I convinced him that I wanted one of those big party type weddings that would take at least a year+ of planning! I told him that society's expectations were that any woman would be SUPER excited about her wedding and that she should make it her biggest day and that girls are taught to envision and anticipate it, even from an early age. That bought me enough time to eventually escape while he was sleeping one day. In reality, I didn't give a shit about a big party wedding, but the emphasis on that tradition really helped me delay the bullet until I had enough room to dodge it!

I just witnessed this, I wasn't the one that did the talking. I was maybe 9 or 10 years old. My grandmother owned a duplex. My family lived on the second floor, my gram lived on the ground floor, and my (adult) brother lived in a loft sort of apartment in the basement (bedroom, living room, bathroom, but no kitchen). My brother was involved in gang activity since he was a teenager, but thus far in his life he had kept the rest of the family mostly out of it. This day, though, a guy showed up at the house with a gun and was beating down the door looking for my brother who was not home, screaming that he was going to kill him and everyone else here.. It was only my grandmother and me that were home. Somehow this tiny 70-something year old woman marched straight up to the door and stared this furious gang member in the face. She chastised him like only a grandma can, telling him that he was "acting out of line, young man" and "how dare he come to her house and behave this way" and "I'm sure your mother raised you better than this". He backed down immediately, apologizing profusely, with a lot of ma'ams thrown in, and ran away with his tail between his legs. No one ever bothered her house again. I was shocked, even then, in awe of this woman. I miss you, gram. RIP.

My neighbor had always been very friendly while I walked my dog each day. He’d join me and we’d walk and talk. Even my dog trusted him. Then finally the day came. We were outside talking (I didn’t bring my dog out that day and had actually failed to tell anyone I had left the house)and somehow that turned into a stroll where he’d inevitably lure me to his house for “tea”. I had a bad feeling after I went inside and when I politely tried to leave, that’s when he pounced. He grabbed me and wrestled me to the ground and strangled me to the point my eyes started to fill with blood. I couldn’t believe this was how I was going to die. To be strangled to death… I still feel sick thinking about it. So I usually don’t. But he let go of my neck and I could suddenly breathe again. Then he S assaulted me and I begged for my life and to not be “assaulted further”. I talked my way out of it by reminding him he had two daughters of his own. He let me go after that making me swear I’d stay quiet. Of course I went to the police and he was initially arrested and held in jail. But after a lengthy trial he was found not guilty and let free. He won’t even be a registered sex offender. The justice system continues to fail us and I no longer trust it. I just remember for a week after the incident I had this overwhelming empty feeling inside of cheating death. And for the next few years I’d be terrified every time I got in my car thinking he would be in the backseat waiting to finish me off. I’m better now mentally for the most part. Stay safe out there guys.

@@-.severly.depressed.- Sorry I never saw this notification until now. Yes, his lawyer was a shark. At first when he couldn’t paint me as mentally ill, he kept trying to paint me as a W who demanded money from him and claimed my attacker said I said “if he didn’t give me money I was going to lie and say he R’ed me.”The trial was a week long and pretty messy, with several mini court hearings before then. We actually didn’t think that argument would hold because it seemed so ridiculous at the time, especially with the physical evidence of my assault, but he kept using that angle in so many ways and no matter how many times I testified of the attack during that week long trial, they let him go. In the end I have no idea what that jury was thinking to have found him not guilty. It was a huge blow to me. I had a whole panic attack at home that night and felt both terror and rage. It was terrible. Honestly I still kinda wrestle with the outcome of this trial. Especially after EVERYTHING the incident put me through both psychologically AND legally. But I’m just trying to move on with my life.

Here's a historical one: Actor George Reeves, the first live action Superman, was doing an event or party. He was in his Superman custome and a kid pulls a gun on him. The little guy wanted to see the bullets bounce off Superman's chest, like in the show. George managed to talk the kid down, "Of course the bullets would bounce off, but then they could hit someone else. Do you really want hurt someone like that?" (Not an exact quote). Kid was malicious, just naive. Thankfully no one was hurt

A family friend had this story. She lived in New York for a while and there was one time she was really angry about something none of us can really remember. Anyway, she's stomping down to the subway when a guy points a gun at her and says "What do ya think about this, baby?" and she just turns to him and yells "Leave me the f*ck alone!" She's a pretty petite lady so that kind of surprised him and she kept on walking toward the train only to stop halfway and turn around again saying "Are you trying to give me a heart attack or something?" That's when the train came and she got on. And of course, instantly started shaking because of what just happened.

In the early 90s in South Central LA I was leaving my bf house around midnight and heading home. Got stopped by a train and was about to make an U turn and go the other way when a car pulled up next to me making the U turn not possible. They rolled their window down and motioned for me to do the same so I nervously obliged. There were three guys in the car and the passenger in the front stared asking general questions… what’s your name, where was I coming from, where was I going etc. I put on my best valley girl accent and answered him, had a general casual conversation while the train passed. Then when the train finished and as the guard rails lifted he said to in a very serious voice… it’s a good thing you spoke and were friendly and kinda funny because we had every intention of shooting you and taking your car. I said well I appreciated that they changed their mind and my son thanks them as well and to be safe and have a nice night. He said thanks and they made a U turn and I drove slowly till they were out of view and gunned it all the way home .

I know it doesn’t really match the prompt but is a pretty good story. I used to work overnight at a gas station in a small Texas town. One early morning I was taking the trash to a big dumpster in the back that always sketched me out cause it was poorly lit and there wasn’t a camera pointed that way. So as I was hucking bags in the dumpster a guy stepped out from behind it and brandished a small white pocket knife with a broken point and told me to hand over my wallet. Now being from Texas I got my concealed carry permit as soon as I was 21 and had been carrying for a year. So I told him “you don’t want to do this man” while backing up towards the store and as soon as he made a move to follow I pulled my pistol from my waist and turned on my laser attachment pointing it dead at his chest. He promptly folded the knife and sulked off back behind the dumpster. I got back in the store called the cops and they had him in custody shortly after. (He when back to hiding behind the dumpster)

Story 6 reminds me of that old Superman actor. He was doing a live event somewhere. Some kid had grabbed his dad's gun and brought it down so that he could shoot Superman. Instead of panicking, the actor calmly told the kid that if he got shot the bullets would ricochet and injure people in the audience. He literally talked the kid out of shooting him. I think that was the same actor that quit smoking the day he got that job because he felt Superman wouldn't smoke since it was unhealthy.

If someone wants your money or car and has a gun just give the shit up. A female acquaintance of mine was carjacked in the parking lot of her apartment building several years ago. She initially refused but threw the keys down and tried to run to the safety of her building. Not sure if it was because she initially refused or what but after throwing the keys down and running, the carjacker still shot her many, many times in the back as she ran. She lived but suffered life altering damage. The bullets obliterated her uterus amongst other organs and with that lost her ability to ever have children. At that point in her life she hadn't had children yet (mid 20s). She adored children, was a paraprofessional in a special needs school. Needless to say, it destroyed her mentally. It would any woman who wanted children and some wannabe hoods took it away. Over a friggin generic car, a Nissan Sentra or similar. Can't remember. Might've been a basic model Mazda. Btw, her assailants were teenagers.

I had just moved to Waco Texas 2 weeks earlier and decided to walk 2 blocks to the Diamond Shamrock to get a cold drink. This was about 7pm. As I was walking back home I was shot twice by a 9 year old kid for my 12 pack of Pepsi and Snickers bar that I had just purchased 10 minutes earlier. It turned out that his older brother was having him commit robberies to get anything he could because the older brother was on house arrest with an ankle monitor. The brother went back to prison, the 9 year old became a ward of the state, and I spent 2 weeks in hospital and a year recovering from my wounds. I was the 7th person that kid robbed in 4 days and the second person he actually shot.

Not me but I stopped a kid I knew from being killed by another kid. It was some sort of beef between the two. The one with the gun thought the other kid snitched on him and his crew. I was working at this security job at the time and we were all inside the guard shack I was put at. The shack had just been wired up with CCTV cameras and they were pretty good cameras. I had control of the screens so when the kid with the gun pulled out and was getting ready to shoot the other kid, I just pulled the camera that was inside the shack up onto the screen and said “you might not want to do that” as I pointed to the screen. He looked and saw all of us in color on the screen with his face on camera and said to the other kid, “I’ll catch you another day.” Then he walked off and went down the street. The other kid was so scared and to tell you the truth, I was scared for him. At the time I did have a gun on me but I was too far away from it so I just went with the next best thing, which was the cameras. The kid thanked me and called for a ride and we waited together until his mom showed up and took him home. I can only imagine how that incident would’ve went if the company hadn’t installed that CCTV system in there. It was a wild night.

Story 12: Just wanted to let you know that yes, you got the DC hero right. Black Canary is the hero who can screech so loud that you go flying back from the sound. There's an X-Men equivalent called Banshee, but he's lesser known across the board compared to her. Props to you for picking out the right character and the right comics company. It's pretty hard today to tell the two apart, but I can usually tell the two apart by if they met Batman, or Deadpool, barring crossovers. If they've met Deadpool, Marvel Comics. If they met Batman, DC Comics.

But please remember that occasionally some people just won't care. I've had to actually shoot an attacker with a real pistol before as well. In that case my attacker didn't stop trying to stab me even once he saw I was legitimately armed. He didn't stop after a warning shot. He didn't stop even after being shot, not until the 3rd time. This was just a stranger that pulled a knife on me for no reason. In summary, sometimes a determined assailant can be surprisingly difficult to stop.

This is long and I'm on mobile so forgive any grammatical errors. This takes place in the mid 90's. Grew up in Baltimore city so unfortunately I have three different stories like this, but I will share the funniest one. My cousin was a kleptomaniac when it came to bikes growing up. I myself have been beaten up twice behind his BS. This one day I was running late for curfew and just missed the last bus leaving from the part of town we were hanging out in, that would get me home on time. So my cousin suggest that we walk down different alleys and find a bike, he would take it and I could ride to his house which is on a bus line that runs more frequently than the other and would get me home on time. I reluctantly agreed as to not get in trouble with my parents. We find a bike and I ride out the alley, where unbeknownst to me a group of guys where seating on a porch up a hill and behind some trees ( my cousin saw them hop in a car and told me that part later). So I'm riding along and they pull up on me and rolled the window down and point a gun at me and ask did you steal that bike from Popular Grove. I jumped up and pushed the bike forward and jumped back yelling this ain't even mine. I ducked behind a car and zig zagged my way down the block. Now Idk if it was what I said or how me and the bike seemed to instantly go in different directions but these dudes erupted with laughter, I could hear one dude laughing so hard it turned into a coughing fit. After they pulled off I made my way back up to the bike and continued home. I've never stole or knowingly been on a stolen bike since.

As I got within 10ft he screeched and ran at me arms wide still wailing. I didn’t know what to do so I just left my hand their and he ran into it and I think I fractured his nose. I then dropped down and rolled off weirdly where he tried to kick my head. That was terrifying and I told a teacher but they as I was interrupted by him crying the teacher assumed I was the bad guy here and it really hurt me. This reminds me of a time when I was walking home with a friend who needed some money, he was in a tight spot and about to get kicked out of his place. For contents I was in my mid-late twenties, he lived around my area and I worked literally 3 min walk from my place. He met up with me and we walked to my house to which we came to a corner where these teens would hang out and I knew a couple of them. One guy I didn't know, snuck up behind me when I walked pass and pulled a gun out on me demanding to know what's in my pockets (aka give me all your money). I looked at him as the gun was pressed up on my chest, proceeded to look at the guys ik (which did nothing but smiled and snicker), then back at him once more. I calmly said I have nothing in my pockets and moved the gun off my chest and started to walk away. Not the brightest move I could've made ik, but it wasn't my first rodeo with being potentially robbed and murdered. And If you're wondering yes, he was caught. But sadly after he murdered 2 other people and other robbery's he successfully did.

I kinda can see how there is a story on that subreddit from metal rod guys perspective... Like... : "I was just going to catch some fish, had my gear fishing rod, net some rope and the piece of pipe to kill a caught fish. I realized upon approaching my usual spot, that a guy is sitting there. I wondered if I should just go closer, if I might have accidentally scared the guy. As the guy didn't react he probably wasn't worried. I decides to ready my kit. Still wondering why this dude was so calm, not calling out as he must have heard the approach and the rummaging of fishing gear. I decides to show myself, piece of pipe in hand in case this odd fellow being out all alone is dangerous. Finally that guy gets up but he just stares at me with that mad stare and reaches for something on his back. His GUN! This guy has gun in his waistband or on his belt on his back! I immediately take off into the bushes to drop what could have been assumed to be a weapon and reemerge to ask for the fish to deescalate. Luckily he just left. Didn't feel comfortable fishing this day though... "

Tw: abuse, and it's a long story. Tl;dr: I had a mental break and laughed in the face of my tormentor as a kid, and it almost backfired horribly but I'm still here somehow. The story: It's hard to say if he would have killed me, but it's probably the closest he came to it. My step dad was incredibly physically, mentally, and emotionally abusive. In a stroke of genius, or maybe just a stroke, it was decided by my mom and my teachers that I would be homeschooled for the entirety of the sixth (or seventh, my memory is really bad when it comes to this part of my life) grade, under the pretenses of avoiding with the bullying I'd been going through at school (but I honestly just think the administrators were starting to ask hard to answer questions about why I was always dirty and flinched whenever someone raised their voice). Since I no longer had anyone keeping an eye out for any injuries, the abuse got so much worse. Before, the bruises were only in places no one could see, but well... with was no one to see them, I guess it didn't matter to him anymore. Tbh, I've still not mentally recovered from a lot of it, it was the worst part of my 8 years of hell living with that man. Well somewhere along the line, I think I just broke. I'm pretty sure it was a legitimate mental break, but I'll never really know because it wasn't like I got any help for it at the time. Anyways, this is one of the few solid memories I have from the time. He was yelling at me in my room, threatening to hurt me in a million ways, hitting me and dragging me around by my hair (this was his usual routine, though I do think things changed a bit after this incident, but it's hard to remember so I can't be sure). Well, somewhere along the line, I just stopped. I went from sobbing to silent. I distinctly remember the sudden feeling of not having any emotions at all. The pain was still there, but only the physical part of it, none of the fear was there any more. And, because I was no longer scared. And, for some reason, I started giggling. Well, he got pissed. He screamed and yelled about the disrespect and he, of course, beat the absolute hell out of me. That was the first time he actually kicked me, which sucked because he was wearing boots. But like... for some reason, I just could not care. I couldn't stop laughing. And he just... left. Like, got in his truck and drove off. As soon as he left I started bawling my eyes out, and I had a really gnarly panic attack. To this day, I have no clue why he left. My theory is that he thought I was going to try and kill him or something? Or maybe he realized he pushed me too far, though I doubt that one because he'd never seemed to care about it before or after that. Anyways, it didn't matter in the long run, because he continued to abuse me till he hurt my brother and drank himself to death. And so went 8 years of my life, from the ages of 5 to about 13. I'm here, and he isn't, so I guess I won.

My grandpa's brother told his girlfriend to kill my grandpa if he ever showed up at their house, don't know why. Anyways, my grandpa had some of his stuff there so he went to get it. Brother's girlfriend steps out, pointing a rifle at him. Grandpa says "If you're gonna shoot me, shoot me." And something else I can't really remember. Brother's girlfriend starts crying, lowers the rifle, and hugs my grandpa apologizing profusely. Grandpa got his stuff, and left. My grandpa's got some crazy stories if anyone wants to hear more.

My brother was walking home one day, and a guy with a bike stopped at him and asked if he could borrow his phone to see the time. My brother, who is not a complete idiot, refused. The guy pulls out a knife and points at him, threatening to kill him if he didn't. My brother then just said to him that: "well, go ahead, if you really think you be leaving without the cops arresting you for that." We live just some quarters away from the police, it was ofc a pretty bad decision for the guy if he indeed stabbed my brother. So he just get pissed and go away. Some minutes later he just realizes what just happen and pee himself. Lol

Luckily I had a reputation for having a high pain tolerance and a jacket that could have anything in it. I got so angry because my ex friend threatened me with my own knife it convinced him I had a trick up my sleeve. The only trick I had was breaking his hip or knee. He had already dodged a kick, and missed his chance to slash my leg. I was SO close to being cut up by a meth head that day. All he had to do is commit to it. 10 minutes later kicked a dumpster so hard I still had knee problems 10 years later.

Story 3 im sure Ops family did something but the fact the friends dad was pissed at his brother who beat the crap out of them seems justice was served and the cops probably wouldn't have done anything or cps could have been called and not done crap or pumped up the story and ruin some lives good thing ops family probably let op stay friends but only hang at ops home for obvious reasons but id give props to ops friends dad for taking ops side and beating the ever loving tar out of his brother..so sometimes violence and taking it upon yourself works

Omg... one of my Ex's was really crazy... she was a rebound relationship after I fell out of love with a close friend whom I ended up dating... originally it was just a booty call but somehow she just lured me in... the sex was great and at the time that was all it took for me to look past her MANY red flags... well I made a huge mistake of moving in with her and she started trying to separate me from my mom (really the only person I fully trust) and I resisted while pretending to comply... well one day she found out that I was trying to leave (she caught me in the middle of that act) and just brought out a hatchet... idk where she even got it from!... long story short after some lie that I was packing up all my stuff to store at my parents house so we could have room at our (nonexistent) new house we had "makeup" sex and I hightailed it outta there the next day... she tried to pregnancy scare me but little did she know I knew that the ultrasound was for an 8 month old and we hadnt been together for 1 month... after a police threat and changing all my info I finally managed to get rid of her

I went through similar last year. Newly divorced and rebounded to fill the void. Great sex made me look past the red flags. Then I became pregnant and finally left for good due to his insanity but became so terrified from his threats afterwards that I couldn’t eat or sleep for days because I was so scared of what he might do. So I spent that time learning my rights, got a lawyer to write my apartment, changed all my contact information, and moved to a new city. Me and my baby boy are thriving now. And every time I think about that man’s deeply troubled nature or listen back on how unhinged he sounded on our last phone call i secretly recorded in case I needed any evidence legally, I know I made the best decision for myself and my child. You always make the best decision when you leave any type of dangerous relationship.

Not me but a friend of mine used to work at a Waffle House, late shift. One night a guy walks in brandish in a gun and points it at him telling him to empty the cash register. He takes one look at the gun and realizes that the safety is on and says. "You do realize the safety is on my dude" He's taking back by this and looks to the side of the gun where the safety is and when he does my friend lunges over the counter knocking the gun out of his hand and picks up a nearby chair at The front counter and starts hitting with it. The robber then remained on the floor clearly badly hurt untill the cops came

Yea...see story 6, if I were the posters father, I'd have gone over and beat the living hell outta that uncle. What sort of f-ing moron leaves a LOADED GUN in the reach of a 5 year old? Their niece/nephew could have died and then they'd be in prison for a nice, long time. Not to mention that 5 year old gets to live with the fact that they killed their cousin, dad's in prison, and mom likely doesn't have custody as she allowed it. Hell even without being shot, a single phone call to the cops could have ruined that family because "This guy's just leaving loaded weapons around for kids? Do you let them sword fight with kitchen knives too?" Obviously that's unrealistic, but this man's proven he's not smart enough to safely take care of children. I've known a lot of people who are responsible with their firearms and would never allow this sort of thing to be a possibility, so to read about some jackass like this really gets me.

All the stories in the video basically tell you that the gun you'll buy is useless as you won't be the first to draw... but i guess you can try. Guns are so useless to protect yourself that you never hear about how somebody used his gun during a shooting to stop the madman, it's always the police that does it (as it should btw). Actually the only citizen that used his gun in these stories is the dude doing the mass shooting...
