Matt, your kindness and good humor bring light in to the lives of more perople than you will ever know. It is fulfilling and rewarding to see you pick these wrecks and get them to saftey. Most people who have off roaded know that while anyone can be fooled, some folks are as stupid as the stuff they do. Back in the day, way before I could affird a winch or really anything more than a chain, we used an old High Boy jack, 48", to extricate my 1973 Land Rover from where ever we got it stuck. I watch with great jou the amazing picks you do in the worst possinle terrain and conditions. I have seen a few times when old school might have heloed. Just wondering if you ever use or would think of using 48 to 60" High Boy jack. Acknowledgeing that these devises came by their popular name "Dead Man Jack" rightly, it seems that you could do some GREAT education as to how to use a device like one of these when Matt's Towinf and Recovery is just too far away. It mght help you once in a while and give you the piece of mind knowing you showed people who carry these on their roof rack or spare tire rack like a trophy Buck but wouldn't have the faintest idea how to use one of these "ratchet winches" much less do so safely. Just a thought from a devoted fan. Be safe, keep up the stellar work. Jeffrey S. Holverson, MD (Ret.) Green River, Wy

I've been watching some Australian off-road videos since Mad Matt visited our Matt, and they all carry a couple of those traction boards. They never go out with just one vehicle, so they have at least four boards available, and they seem to make all the difference in soft sand or mud. They are typically five feet long, and 18 inches wide, so I can't see a pair of sandals being much use. They don't seem to air down as much as Matt from the videos I've seen and 12psi front and 10psi rear compared to Matt's 6psi. I don't know if they have tire locking devices (I don't know what they are called). One serious difference is that people can walk out from most of the places Matt's customers get stuck, but the Oz off-roaders can be hundreds of miles from rescue.

Did you say Arctic Cat? I didn’t see any snow ❄️. I wonder if that was the problem lol That guy should be proud he definitely planted it a little water and it would start growing My Chevrolet K-2500 has 4X4 on the side of the bed I always think 4 ✖️ 4 = 16 times as stuck! Once my father and I had my 62 Scout off Hwy 20 just past Washington, CA turn-off on a road/trail that had fairly fresh D-9 Caterpillar tracks going in we had gone maybe 50 yards and I put in the hubs another half mile and I was ready to back out my father hopped in the driver’s seat made it about 10 more yards horizontally and 2 feet down snagged a tree limb destroying the right rear tire; we were digging to be able to put on the spare and the D-9 came out with a trailer full of forest guys and tourists asked if we needed help I was voting yes my father said no we were ok half an hour later I walked out to the garage the D-9 was kept in fortunately the owner/operator was not finished yet he fired up the “donkey engine I think he called it” fired up the BIG DUDE there was a seat that was above the left track not very quickly we drove back in to my Scout he dropped the blade dragging snow away from my Scout turned around chain from logging winch to my front tow hooks first gear (not necessary) he rotated that 4X4 around and drug it back to the garage used the blade to lift the right rear so we could change the tire no charge we drove home my father never went 4X4ing again I don’t know how many gears they had but we were motoring along at about 5 MPH. I couldn’t get a hub in once HARD reverse got me out of the hole I went on my way another time we were camping off Hwy 50 near Kyburz and blew out the spider gears in the rear differential my father and Mom were in the Open Road 1 ton chassis mount he didn’t think it was broken I drove home with 4X4 high engaged he tried it at home after I had gone back to 2X4 pop pop pop etc finally believed me it was broke we got the parts and it was my first time in a differential I know people that work on them I bring axles, transfer cases and transmissions to them. Like Inspector Callahan said a man’s got to know his limitations and I own the blond cousin to his Model 29 double hearing protection eye protection and a good supportive wrap and about a half box of ammunition I’m good FUN TIMES I should go COVID hunting
