🌧️ HOW DID THIS EVEN GO AHEAD?!
Спорт
Scotland v Georgia at Hampden Park was certainly eventful! In UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying duty, the torrential downpour prior to kick off postponed the game for over an hour in Glasgow.
Goals from Callum McGregor and Scott McTominay were enough to make it four wins in four for Steve Clarke's Tartan Army!!!

Ive been going to Scotland games for maybe 12 years now. The most bizarre game ever. I'm a wheelchair user, so I sit right at the front (you were pretty much directly behind me, obviously higher up though) and every single wheelchair user there got absolutely drenched. I went in to the kiosk in the first 20 mins break and I poured about a cm of water out of each trainer! Every item of clothing was soaking. The whole experience was unbelievable, but I loved every minute. The atmosphere was unlike anything I've experienced at Hampden before.

It’s so bizarre that they designed hampden with such a small roof, it’s stupid that the first few rows don’t get any rain protection
Me and my son (his first Scotland game) enjoyed this rather eventful evening last night. Stayed to pretty much the end. Last year, as Sparta fans, we drove 300 kilometers to Slovácko for the final of the Czech Cup. We were already at the stadium an hour before the game, but it had rained so much that the pitch was as wet as it is now at Hampden Park. In the end, they postponed the match two weeks later, so that day we were going back 300 kilometers back to Prague, and I was going another 150 kilometers from Prague to Trutnov, where I live. So I left at 10 in the morning for the match that was supposed to start at 5 in the afternoon, because of the wet pitch we waited an hour and it still didn't start. We went from Slovácko to Prague at 7 in the evening, where we were at 11 at night and I got home to Trutnov at 2 in the morning. So it was a very long trip full of beer, slivovice and other alcohol, but there was no football. 😂😂😂

I got caught in that rain at work, got drenched. Absolutely soaking driving home on the motorway at 30mph! Never seen so much rain fall in such a short space of time. I doubt any pitch would have handled that, so much credit to the ground staff. What amazed me is the amount of people who stayed back to near the end. Well done the Tartan Army! An absolutely magical night last night. The delay just made it all the better. Wonderful entertainment and the most extreme heart from these boys. Well done lads. You're making us very, very proud.
That rain was monsoon-like (as an Arizona resident, I've seen my fair share of those). I don't think any surface, anywhere, could have dealt with that much better. What really disappointed me was that no-one thought to go get more equipment to clear that water - brooms for the ball-boys? There were plenty of people eager to help, but there were no tools for them. Pitch not to blame, field staff were heroes, leadership were zeroes. Well done players and ground crew and well done to the fans who were able to stick it out (and commiserations to those forced to leave to catch trains, etc)

The last time I saw rain like that was in Mombasa during the rainy season. The Hampden pitch comes in for criticism and some of it is fair but no pitch in the world could handle such rainfall. Another great performance and result for us and I get the booing when the Georgians finally came out again but I noticed a bit of booing at the national anthem, I’ve been to a handful of Scotland matches recently (not this one) and it’s becoming common, there’s really no need and it doesn’t put us Scots in a good light.

🚨BREAKING: Hampden ground staff finally drain Rodri's tears off the pitch
Great summary of what happened at one of the most bizarre games I've ever been to. A huge contrast from Oslo 🥵🥵. Well done to all the staff and ballboys that got rid of a lot of water, as the crowd rocked to a DJ playing some great topical tunes. A great win that gets us that little bit closer to qualifying. Once the Georgians refused that time to come out, I think there minds had gone, hoping the game was abandoned. Comical in the stands with all the rumours going around about playing the next day at Love Street and the like 😂😂. After the game it took us an hour to get on the motorway, and got home to Aberdeen at 3am 😴😴. Quiet day at work, although did manage to book accommodation in Seville for the Spain game. Can't wait for this minidrama called Scotland to continue in Cyprus. Oh and this has happened before to Scotland, in 2004 against Spain in a friendly at Levante's ground in Valencia. The night before returning from the U21 game in the hills the heavens opened up and in no time there was about two foot of water on the streets. Then at the game Scotland took the lead before Spain equalised. Again the heavens opened up, and we were told the game would be delayed fifteen minutes. With three quarters of the stands being open all the locals disappeared. Then the lightening started, power cut and game abandoned. Funny sight watching a kilted footsoldier belly flopping/splashing on the half way line whilst getting chased by a reluctant steward 😂😂. Took three days for my kilt to dry.
Only following this about 2 years now but quite possibly the best channel I ever discovered on this... top job mate, I look forward to new material
Top quality Sam. I walked the 20mins from my flat to the game and got drenched. Not sure if many pitches would have survived that weather. However once the rain stopped I was surprised in the length of time it took to drain away. Anyway keep up the good work and see you at Stair Park, Stranraer at some stage again.
Never seen rain like that in Glasgow, something like 15mm in an hour. Nothing you can do to prepare the pitch for that, all credit to the ground staff, ball boys and everyone else that got roped into sweeping off the water.

Video brilliant as usual Sam, I think the hospitality was a bit expensive for what you got.
Some effort for the folk that stayed on. Was a long night watching from home!
The main issue with the pitch is the few weeks of dry, warm weather has left the ground so dry it was physically impossible for it to absorb the amount of rain that came down in such a short space of time. All credit to the groundskeepers, ball boys and stewards for sweeping it and allowing the game to continue. It was a great atmosphere though, even when leaving at 11:30pm.

One of the guys I went to the game with last night is a grounds man (I won't say which club, incase he gets into trouble), and he told me the pitch at Hampden is an absolute disgrace, and always will be, because it do's not get properly maintained, due to a lack of SFA funding. He got all technical about grass growth, drainage and all sorts of other things, I didn't really understand, and said it would cost a few quid, but not as much as you would think, to fix it properly, but the SFA won't spend the money.

As an 11 year old Scottish boy I love the Scotland team. CMON SCOTLAND 🏴
Streamed the game in HD from my Hotel Balcony in Palma Majorca with a duty free Malt to keep good company, attrocious conditions but fantastic effort to make it more than playable after it eventually restarted. Supporter since the 70s and its been a long time coming to witnes a Scottish team competing like this but it is competing and winning games like the first 4 that you have to achieve if you want to go to the Euros or a World Cup with a chance of going deep into the competition and not just qualify by the skin of your teeth and then not surprisingly find yourself bottom or 2nd bottom of the group and out and it all quickly forgotten. So happy for all involved in Scottish football to see this level returning. I live & work in Germany so I wont even have to book a flight.

I suppose you got a lot more for your money than usual. I thought the opening 2.5 hours were great 😂 Favourite moment was the stadium tannoy playing why does it always rain on me. Top class banter!
I don't know much about football, could someone explain if there was anything more anyone could have done to keep the game going or got it back on track quicker? The guy at the 10 minute mark seemed to be disappointed by the pitch/ground/stadium/staff etc. Surely the situation was unavoidable due to the downpour?
That was a heavy but short down fall of rain, I was under the impression they never expected that amount of rain and hosed the pitch down with water pre-match as it was dry all day. That was a massive amount of water they were taking back of considering the pitch should take sustained downpours. They watered the pitch down during their Euros 2021 so it would have likely been a tactical reason.
Hopefully the weather's better this weekend in Glasgow! As I'm gonna take a trip to govan/ibrox saturday😂
