Question - I'm new to Cricut DS. Do I need to cut down my paper before putting it on my cutting mat and cutting with the Cricut or does the cut file do all that work as well? Thanks for the file!
@CraftyConceptswithErin

Hello, the Cricut will cut each piece from a 12x12 paper but you can edit the pieces and move them around on the mat if you are trying to cut from a smaller piece of paper. It’s difficult to put into words but hopefully that is making sense.
What size are the little baggies you keep your stamp toppers in? Are they 1x1 or 2x2?

@CraftyConceptswithErin
7 ай бұрын
Hello Susie, I am so sorry you are having difficulties. I don’t know what could be going wrong, many have used this and reported it worked well.
It seems the square size in the beginning was different than what you explained. Did you mean 1/4 or 1/2 on edges? Placing the square to the bottom instead of centering it on the mat would be why it didn't work out perfectly. You used the 3,6,9 marks to make angles which was not even with square not in the middle. I hope that makes sense. Nice layout.
@CraftyConceptswithErin
Жыл бұрын
My goal was to have a 1/4” margin around the edges which is what the end result was. I knew there would be much smarter approaches to tackling the design especially from my crafty friends that sew and quilt. You could definitely try placing it in the middle but would still have to alter it in the end because by the time you added the spaces in between it would still be off. It was design space to the rescue for me. I wanted to show my struggles in the video and how to get around them. I’m glad you enjoyed the layout.
Can you pleasetell me how you did it on design space?
@CraftyConceptswithErin
Жыл бұрын
I used the square shape and slice tool to make it. I began with a 11.5” square as my base. Then I altered the measurement of another square to be 3 inches wide by however many inches long to span across the page at a 45° angle. I then used another square to layer over the portion I did not want. When you click slice it will cut the pieces where they are layered and you can remove the unwanted portion. It takes a little practice getting to know the slice feature but it sure is handy.
Hi Erin - do you know of anyone that has an extra set of the Seasonal Haul dies they are willing to sell?
@CraftyConceptswithErin

Hello, that is a cute stamp set isn’t it? I will definitely ask around for you. Are you just wanting the dies or the stamp and dies?
how do you make the file on cricut design
@CraftyConceptswithErin
Жыл бұрын
Hello Heidi! I used the square shape and slice tool to make it. I began with a 11.5” square as my base. Then I altered the measurement of another square to be 3 inches wide by however many inches long to span across the page at a 45° angle. I then used another square to layer over the portion I did not want outside the 11.5” square. When you click slice it will cut the pieces where they are layered and you can remove the unwanted portion. It takes a little practice getting to know the slice feature but it sure is handy.
Just wondering if you could cut 12” strips of paper, except for the corners, then cut the ends on a angle?? Has anyone tried that? An exacto knife & me are not very good friends. Lol..
@CraftyConceptswithErin
Жыл бұрын
Exacto knives can be tricky! Do you mean cut them 3x 12 inches straight down and then turn them to create your angles? If so it would work for the outer pieces but not the two in the center. They are much longer than 12 inches
@debbievanhorn6205
Жыл бұрын
@@CraftyConceptswithErin, yes…just cut 3 x 12? Would that work?
I do not own a cricut so I would be doing it by hand, however unlike you I would not have cut the strips but I would have drawn lines on the paper & made my pattern first & then I would have cut later. I am a dressmaker & so never cut until I have done a hand drawn sample pattern first as it can be costly if you cut before you are 100% correct in your copy. It looks nice but to be honest not as pleasing to the eye as the original because you have your papers all cut in a uniform size. I have my book in front of me & I have drawn lines across the picture finding the centre of the page so that I have four equal quarters & so then you can see that the top triangle is a lot bigger than the bottom one. The striped strip is the widest, followed by the narrowest bringing it to the top right corner, the leaf pattern finishes over in the bottom corner section followed by the triangle. I would then draw my lines leaving white space between each set of strips until I was happy with the result, then I would number the strips & cut them out & they would become my pattern pieces which I would bag & keep for a future project. It is the uneven width of two of the stripes that makes the eye happy with the final look.
@CraftyConceptswithErin
Жыл бұрын
I am sure your dress making skills come in handy for paper crafting. I do not have any seamstress skills at all and math hurts my brain unless it is an equation I use frequently. Making the strips uniform was the easiest way for me to create a layout others could replicate. Great idea to draw them put and create a pattern.

@@CraftyConceptswithErin yes thanks!
What would your companion page look like? Page 2?
@CraftyConceptswithErin
Жыл бұрын
That is a good question. Two ideas pop into my mind, one being a mirror image but have the diagonal stripes going the opposite direction. The second I envision still having the strips but maybe only half the layout while the right side of page 2 is solid cardstock where the photos and embellishments would go. The diagonal stripes could cover even less than half of the second page. Basically just enough to tie them together
Hi, you could avoid cutting them in the middle simply by not reduce the page: you cut all your diagonals from a 12 x 12 sheet, then you cut just the middle pieces that are too long.
@CraftyConceptswithErin
Жыл бұрын
You might be able too, I am sure there are more precise mathematical approaches yielding the perfect result compared to my scenic route (lol). You would end up having to trim some of the pieces as I think your final triangle would end up off, but maybe not.
Wouldn't your template have to be 11 1/2 x 11 1/2 to have a quarter inch on each side? You've twisted my brain here. Maybe it's just too early for me. However, the finished product is beautiful.
@CraftyConceptswithErin
Жыл бұрын
You are correct and the design space file was designed that way. To cut it by hand I started smaller because of the spaces in between when you spread them out. when I asked for help some even suggested started with a 10" square. It may work to start with 11.5 but you will still have to cut the pieces and alter them in the end to account for the margins between the diagonal strips. I'd have to try with the 11.5 and see what happens. Like I said, angles hurt my brain 😂
Great layout!
