Timing is everything! Imagine how much greater the loss had they not already removed the furnishings before the fire!

What a great story of the restoration and rebuilding after the fire. Given how bad it was, very relieved they didn't decide to simply build something new.

At 2:42 on the left wall is one of the most famous paintings in Texas, called "The Fall of the Alamo" with its iconic image of Davy Crockett. It was painted in 1903 and is in hundreds of historical books. When I first heard of the fire, I was devastated because I thought it was still in there, but like all the other paintings, it had been removed, fortunately. I had visited the mansion before the fire, and the reconstruction looks dead on to what it looked like before.

What’s really amazing is that the Governor didn’t lose power when the rest of us Texans were freezing to death during ice storm Uri. Also, whenever the rest of us Texans are asked to conserve energy because the grid is stressed, the mansion doesn’t participate.

Does anyone see an elevator on these floor plans? I suspect the plans are from before the fire. Beautiful house. Great that the furnishings had been removed before the fire and that it was restored rather than demoed. Ken, thx for the video.

I saw the governors Manson back in the 1990’s, as I use to live in Austin. And it was closed to the public that day as Rick Perry was the current occupant at the time and was at home. But yeah that was a well known thing about the Governors Manson, among other things many Texas Governors left for the next administration to handle that never got taken care of.

The difference is state's attitudes: In TX they needed to use one time stimulus funds while in MN the legislature has twice updated the governor's mansion of in 40 years using state tax dollars

Does any else think the fire well timed? Wouldn't it have been better for maximum effect from the arsonist perspective to fire bomb the mansion AFTER renovations. The arsonist was never caught... Very interesting.
