The ball is actually a wooden ball wrapped in leather and the stitch is hard too......sometimes even the stitch can cut through skin, especially when the ball is new. It's just with hits over the years, your hands get a bit harder and you get used to it,so you can bear the pain. If you ever pay attention, many of these fielders have tapes on thier hands, because of broken and cut fingers

Some analysis of a few points you may be interested to know. 1. The ball is super hard. For eg. if you remove the outer cushioning of a baseball, a cricket ball would still be harder, heavier and smaller. So as a fielder there is literally no comparision between a cricket fielder and a baseball fielder. You need technique to catch that ball, like for eg. the ball should ideally land at that place where your fingers meet the palm, that way, the fingers can absorb the momentum and simulataneously you also need to pull your hands backwards to decrease the impact. In cricket, only the guy behind the stumps can wear gloves because if he doesn't he will lose his fingers as that hard thing comes with a pace of 95mph and to catch that 100s of times every game barehanded is impossible. Even with the gloves on, most wicketkeepers have irregular fingers. 2. Rightly pointed out, reflexes are very important in cricket, both while batting and fielding. While batting, it can be argued that a baseball batter gets lesser time to hit the ball compared to a cricket batsman, however, the former needs to hit just one ball in an entire game and even if he misses every time, it doesn't matter much whereas a cricket batsman needs to hit 100s of balls every game depending on the format. Plus unlike baseball the ball bounces, and it can change its speed, direction, bounce, basically everything depending on what the bowler has wished it to do, so the batsman needs to pay very close attention to the bowler's hand and also the game scenario and guess what the bowler will do, what shot to hit, where the fielders are, etc. and you need to do all this subconsiously within a fraction of a second, so it takes a lot of game sense as well. Conversely, the fielding team needs to set its field in the right way, and bowler needs to bowl in a way that the batsman doesn't know whats coming next, so its a constant mental battle between the bowler and the batsman. 3. Team coordination- Cricket is a very mind heavy game. You need to be very strong mentally to play the game, ike as a batsman, the bowler will try to break your bones(literally), the fielding team may abuse you to break your concentration, and when they are doing all this, you need a supportive partner at the other end of the pitch who can calm you down whenever you get distracted. And while fielding, if there is even 1 fielder who is not giving his 100%, the batsman will target his region and that can become a reason for a loss. Plus, a format of cricket, called Test Cricket, which is actually the 'real' format(other formats were developed for the commercialisation of the sport), lasts upto 5 days(they play only during daytime for 8-9 hours everyday) which is extremely taxing on the body and mind and so you need a good team environment to last that long. Fitness and Longevity- Cricket is an extremely injury prone game. For eg. the stress on a fast bowler's arm is atleast 4 times that of a baseball pitcher and he needs to run in and bowl with the same energy 100s of times in a day. As per technicians who worked with Brett Lee(one of the best fast bowlers), the stress on his leg was 20 times his body weight at the time of releasing the ball. And if you're a batsman, even with all that padding, be prepared to return with a couple of blue-black spots every day(you dont even mind them after ont point). 4. Money- IPL(Indian Premier League), which is a club cricket league in India(similar to what LA Liga or MLS are for football in Spain and USA) just sold its viewing rights for $6 Billions (yes, 10^9). The average player earns $450,000 in a period of 2 months where he may play 0 to 18 games. Top players earn $1.5M to $2M.

My personal favourite there was #7 by Sarah Taylor, England women's wicket-keeper (like a 'catcher'). I was a keeper myself, for many years and so I can appreciate just how good you have to be to catch that when standing up to the stumps. She watched the ball all the way, anticipated the batsman's intention and then reacted with amazing athleticism to catch it. She was an amazing wicket-keeper that made difficult takes look almost easy.

"The numbers, I want to know the numbers." OK, here you are: Often you'll here "Australia are 22 for 3 after 6." That means they have scored 22 runs for the loss of 3 wickets (from a max of 10) after 6 overs (6 times 6 deliveries = 36 pitches in baseball parlance.) The most important part is the number of runs, the "22". However, the number of wickets down gives you an indication of where the innings might go. Cricket teams play their best batters first; the openers, batsmen 1 and 2 are typically patient and don't try to score unless safe (at least for a while, and in 20-20 not so true...). Their scoring will be slower, but they are their to learn how the pitch is playing (swing, bounce, speed, height and grip/turn for spin) and to hopefully get some runs on the board while the bowlers tire and get frustrated. Batters 3, 4, 5, 6 might be more assertive and score more quickly. The depth of quality of the batting lineup is a function of how many specialist bowlers on the team. Selection here is a strategy. You don't need all your players to be great batsmen if you have an outstanding bowling lineup. If you pick a great set of bowlers and then the pitch is 'a betters wicket'; predictable bounce and no swing, batting is made easier and you might have messed up! So, 145 for 2 and 155 for 6 are very different scores. 145 for 2 suggests many more runs are plausible/likely. 155 for 6 might be the beginning of the end for the batting team. Ya feel me? LOL! At the end of the 2nd innings you will see "India need 45 of 67 balls." That is 45 to win (exceed oppositions score by just 1), and how many deliveries available to get there. 67 deliveries is 7 overs (of 6 deliveries) and 1 remaining delivery in the current over. The "after 6" part - the over count is important in the formats called 20-20 (twenty overs per inning (team), and one day cricket (typically 50 overs per team.) Test cricket, which is international games only, is not limited by overs, but by wickets taken and time and takes up to 5 days! Despite being up to 5 days long, these matches can end in a draw! The other numbers are stats; strike rate (runs per delivery faced expressed as a percentage) and bowling performance which might read "6 2 4 24" That is 6 overs, 2 maidens (no runs scored), 4 wickets, and 24 runs. Those would be good figures. My best figures at school were 8 5 3 11 - a long time ago! Hope that helps :)

In baseball it's a pitcher in cricket it's called a bowler. The cricket ball is made of hard solid cork wrapped in leather & stitching. Bowlers can reach speeds of 150 km hr it only hurts if you catch it the wrong way, can break your fingers. How a batter gets out is by LBW (leg before wickets), BOWLED OUT ( hit the stumps behind the batter), RUN OUT,STUMPED OUT & CAUGHT OUT. We have 3 formats of the game T20 3hr game ODI ( one day international game) & Test match a 5 day game of cricket. From the land down under Australia 🇦🇺 👍.

Cricket bats are made of willow ("Salix alba ‘Caerulea’"); it is light, springy, resilient, fine-grained, the handle is a composite made of layers of cane and rubber which is glued into the V-cut in a bat blade. They are generally between about 2lb 4oz and 3lb (1.1kg to 1.4 kg). Top players have bats sculpted to exactly their needs in terms of balance, 'pick up', curvature, etc. but they cannot be more than 38" long, wider than 4.25" or thicker than 2.64".

Love seeing people enjoying sorts i grew up with, big ups on ya content bros. Keep it up, cool to watch. Some explanations for people who havent got to grow up knowing the rules. Numbers: Overs, an over consists of 6 bowls. Innings, this is dependant on the style of cricket you are playing. Theres limited and non limited amount of overs in styles. For simplicity sake lets say there are either 20 or 50 overs in an innings. These are the main 2 styles now days Teams consist of 11 players. in 1 innings a team can afford to get 10 outs. When batting you have 2 players on the pitch. Therefore, if you have 10 outs you can no longer field 2 batters so you have to swap between sides. Runs, theses are your points when batting. A run is scored when batters move between either side of the pitch. The other way a Batter can score these is putting the ball over, or into, the boundry. 6 if it was on the full, 4 if it touched the ground. At the end of the game the team with the highest amount of runs wins. It seems complex but makes sense pretty quickly when seeing them play, these obviously other rules too. If you wanted to watch games id personally reccomend watching the Indian Premier League (IPL). Its the shorter more fast paced / exciting form of the game. It also brings in the best players from around the world into a "super" league. Explanations The "Alley oops" you see happiening over the boundry line are because, like you rightly pointed out, is similar to basket ball rules. The main difference is that if a player holding the ball touches the boundry line or the ground outside line the it will count a "runs" scored for the Batter. 6 runs if its on the full, 4 if it has touched the ground on its journey to the line. The ball is incredibly hard, much harder than any baseball ive ever come across, also smaller and heavier than baseballs. A baseball is 9 - 9.25 inches, compared to a cricket ball's 8.81 - 9 inches. They weigh between 5.5 and 5.75 ounces, compared to a baseball, which weighs just 5 to 5.25 ounces. The speeds at what they are pitched is pretty similar, both having pitches of just over 100mph, the length of the pitch is similar, both about 60 feet. The Wicket keeper does have gloves, but no other fielders can use gloves. Catching a hard ball at speed bare handed is a technique you learn over time, with very sore hands when you get it wrong. Batting technique is the same, just something you learn over time. I personally found it hard to switch between baseball and cricket batting styles, they felt so different to me. However, im def no professional athlete.

For starters, you can actually play cricket with tennis balls too. That's how kids starts playing cricket at a age of 5 or 6.

a baseball has a cork, rubber or a mixture of the two core and is sometimes layered. Legal weight for the ball in baseball is not to be under 5 ounces but never to be over 5 and a 1/4 ounces. A baseball is 9 to 9.25 inches in circumference....a cricket ball is made of cork and string and covered with red leather. the ball must weigh between 5.5 and 5.75 ounces (155.9 and 163.0 g) and measure between 8 13/16 and 9 in (224 and 229 mm) in circumference....but the cricket ball is MUCH harder and feels like ya using a rock!

now, just imagine if the various Cricket Boards from other countries put together their 'best catches ever' video? We saw the English version this time but, i am sure india, South africa. Windies, Australia etcetera, could put together a similar, if not better compilation. I would say though, thaat the Glenn Maxwell catches, would probably make any cricket boards compilation

Dude with the gloves is the wicket keeper and he has gloves because of how close he gets to the wicket and batsmen. The fielders like the bowler toughen their hands over time but it is extremely painful if you catch it wrong. Splitt webbing inbetween your fingers broken bones etc. There are fielders who get extremely close to the batsmen depending on the type of bowler. So a spin bowler is much much slower and the fielders get closer because of the chance of an edge off the bat. NO GLOVES AND VERY DANGEROUS THEY DO GET A HELMET. A spin bowlers is slow compared to a dedicated fast bowler who raches speeds over 150kms. or over 95miles. The ball is lethal. Leather wrapped extremely hard. After a certain amount of use/overs or if it gets soft or misshaped it will get replaced.

The best batsman I've ever seen play the game is Brian Lara. He batted for THREE DAYS v England.....twice, setting the Test record of 375, then retaking it by scoring 400. He also holds the first class record of 501.

If the fielder caught the ball and landed over the boundary, that would have been six runs; so they throw it back to the field.

Trust me bro these balls are like rock. A lot harder than a baseball. Only the guy behind the stumps (the wicketkeeper) has gloves in the fielding team. The 'paddles' are called bats and the guys weilding them are batsmen. Cricket bats usually weigh between 2.5 - 3lbs whereas a baseball bat generally weighs about 2lbs. A cricket ball although smaller than a baseball weighs a little more. Both balls have similarities in their ingredients like cork and leather. Batsmen have been killed when struck on the head by a fast bowler so they all wear headgear now which never happened years ago when I 1st started watching the game.
