How Decades Worth Of Dust is Deep-Cleaned From Air Ducts | Deep Cleaned | Insider

Ойын-сауық

Kura Home is a home maintenance and air-duct cleaning business in Plymouth, Minnesota. Depending on who and what lives in a home, skin cells, pet dander, and smoke debris build up in air vents that have been left untouched for decades. Daniel Felt, founder of Kura Home, walks us through how he dislodges and pulls out dust found in air ducts, furnaces, and dryer vents.

I’m sure he’s weellllllllll aware of the serious risks associated with his job. Could’ve been done just for the video so he doesn’t look like he’s going on a space shuttle launch to potentially millions of people. Could also be that he’s an adult who’s willing to take calculated risks while being comfortable over wearing full PPE and being totally uncomfortable every single day. At the end of the day I’m sure most of us agree that he should probably at least be wearing a proper N95 and maybe some eyewear however that’s his decision to make not ours. I know some people who totally panic wearing face masks so you just never know the reason why.

We might be only seeing the demonstration parts of the vid so we don't see him wear mask. If he is going to do some serious dust cleening where he is expected to have chuck face full of dust then its safe to expect he is going to use a mask since he is a professional after all. A lot of that what you were sucking up when you were using the clear dome didn’t look like dust but looked exactly like the loose blow in ceiling insulation. Maybe it got in there in the install but the way it clumped and even had the same sort of mix of distribution of different colours in it, just like the insulation I have in my roof space

I must say though I got a real shock with the guy at the outdoor dryer vent using no eye protection blasting away with the air. I know when I worn plastic type safety glasses, especially whenever the forehead has a bit of a must forming from some perspiration on the edge of becoming a dripping nightmare.... The onslaught of dusty particles floating freely in my view .... especially the micro pieces of dust, dead skin cells floating, & unknown debris particles would cling to my glasses on both sides ... obstruction of my limited view...over 50 % reduction of clear sight ... & The naked eyeball is that much closer to getting a stray dust bunny cousin or so to poke me in the eyes or hang freely on my lower eyelid area or in my eyelashes... Where if I just closed my eyes in bursts as I cleaned out the vent ... Since the vent cannot move physically from the spot it's in...... Control the directions of where the dust flies.... & Be diligent on finding all the remaining stuff that didn't fully exit the targeted area to get cleaned ..... & Take that soft little ... Whambulance card carrying.... attitude of ....oh my gosh ...I'm gonna get filthy... Oh heavens...look at my clothes .. they have filthy all over them now & gosh ... It must be excruciating to breathe.... normally....as you obviously don't sit there with a mouth all jaw slacked like goober Pyle on AG Show ..... Daydreaming of the fun flavors of the fungi flying in the work space .... This is a bit of dirty ...but is it a hazmat level every time ....I seriously would doubt it ... And why point out all these mind blowing acts in their videos...if u WANT TO WEAR A MASK ....TTTT...TTT..IMMMMY...wear a flipping mask ...out on 2 pairs of safety glasses ....cover your tootsies up with a full coverall type of suit .. like painters & other cleaning crews wear on more risky type jobs . To prevent any contamination to invade your clothes or in your lungs or melt in through your epidermal organ.... It is indeed the largest organ people have ....so keep it healthy & throw some soap & water on the epidermal areas later that evening to be triple troubleshooter safe

I work for an HVAC company as a service technician and see some of the havoc caused by duct cleaners. #1 is improperly connecting to the ductwork. Sometimes they connect right at the furnace ducting and suck tons of dust onto the furnace blower wheel and AC coil, causing restrictions. #2 I’ve seen them pull return ducts joints apart in the attic, sucking in a bunch of blow in insulation into the ducting (Probably not their fault the joint was poorly done, but they just left it and didn’t say anything). Moral of the story hire professionals and inspect the ducting and inside the furnace after they’re done

The owner is cheap and doesn't see the value in it, but it affects your everyday life because so much dust is formed on everything in your home. Is it possible to rent the duct cleaning tools and do it myself? What about bugs and spiders, will that cause more of them to come out? I hate that it's not a standard in most apartments to get ducts cleaned.

They have air ducts to disperse cool and hot air from the “air handler”throughout the home. In newer homes typically called “central heating and air”. A lot of old style mobile homes have air ducts on the floor, or even returns on the floor and airducts on the ceiling. but I have come across floor vents in a house. Terrible design to say the least …. Newer houses have air ducts on the ceiling or wall near the ceiling.

BS about your comment that unless 50 years of smoking you don't need this service. Get your head examined. I bought a house and my wife and I were fine in it. At our initial house warming party my brothe and my niece said their allergies were going through the roof. So we looked into the upstairs air intake grates in the hallway and it looked like the ducts were fur lined. As in pets for years. So I had the ducts cleaned and the fur lining was sucked all out of the system. Heavy smoking or a lot of pet hair or other reasons can make you ducts very dirty and need a cleaning.

It’s only dangerous if you don’t educate yourself on proper home maintenance. Not everyone has this dirty of home. I do HVAC cleaning partly for a living and have seen money a home or business have almost new looking HVAC but they still hired us to clean it.

If you have air ducts in a central furnace or central air then you have ducts unless your house has other types of heating and only have windows.

Heat rises, if you put them up high you'll never warm a house. Also most are placed near windows and doors, those are the biggest place cold air gets in so you heat that area.

@@indyguy3400 Wrong. Our HVAC is on the 3rd floor roof. Due to the odd, "Remodeling," of the former owners, there's only one register on the 1st FL, over the kitchen sink! I put a box fan on low, to pull the heat through the DR to LR, the latter has a reversible fan, so I pull the heated air through, up, or push it down - depending on temperature. Looking into hanging round, industrial ductwork from the DR through LR, as DIY. Put in double-paned sliding glass windows, for both sound and temperature control.

Well the machines they are using should be a lot more robust than just a shopvac. With the right technician you only need a 500 rpm fan with a brush line, air hose, and that plastic seal to do a really good job.
