BessY if you look more closely in the original legends it was only Vader and Anakin was completely separate but if you see now in Canon they're showing us that it's not so cut and dry like the way it was shown to us in the original trilogy Anakin and Darth Vader are totally one in the same he just lies to Palpatine by saying Anakin is no more but in reality he's doing what him and ahsoka has always done when he was in the Jedi order he was always a badass maverick so it shouldn't shock anyone that he was not telling the truth to Palpatine just like he lied about killing ahsoka and remember what he'd always tought ahsoka it's not what you do but its how you choose to about doing so you can't get so easily in trouble

BessY I wouldn't consider this saving children so much as saving himself. If Sidious had gotten his hands on that list, it would have been only a matter of time before he found someone capable of replacing Vader.

Force sensitive children didnt knew they had it. Younglings were already trained and had the chance to rebel in the future. Plane common sense.

i think the reason vader destroyed it was to ensure that old and ugly didnt use someone on that list to replace vader eventually.

@@revolverocelot1380 he was here. this was not long after he murdered the younglings and became vader, for the next few years after all he felt was hate and anger. he destroyed the list so palpatine couldnt find someone more fitting, since vaders potential was now capped and the rule of 2 meant vader would be replaced

@@jynxed66six54 That makes no sense. Obviously as Vader there were a few times he'd feel a tug from his previous morality but would be so blanketed in hate he barely felt it.

I think Vader did this as a small measure of redemption from the guilt and self-loathing he felt after remembering his slaughter of of the Younglings.

Vader did not save the children he saved himself.

It's not just that of course; he wasn't going to condemn the children to the fate he had suffered himself -- he wouldn't see them be made into slaves of Sidious. It was the same with his objections to the slavery of the Wookies. Ultimately, he saved Luke for the same reason, even though it consigned him to die. There were few lines Vader wouldn't cross, but slavery is right out of the question for him.

+Sheev Palpatine before Vader got put into the suit, he had the potential to massively surpass Palpatine. However, after being put into the suit his potential was limited to only ~80% of Palpatine's power. Palpatine chose Anakin because he was the only being in the galaxy stronger than him, but Vader would never be able to surpass Palpatine, that's why Sidious made him an enforcer and began exploring other options.

Both Anakin and Vader were on the same page on this one. He’s got both the angel and the devil on his shoulder telling him to destroy the chip. It’s pretty obvious he’s going to destroy the chip.

I would say replace. It is no secret Palpatine wanted Vader replaced after being defeated by Obi-Wan. It could be the children could become Inquistors or even force sensitive spies like how he imagined in the Clone Wars when he had Cad Bane kidnap those children, or depending on how strong they become, potential replacements for Vader.

Too bad Luke got them all killed anyway.

I think he did this for two reasons. For one, those children are innocent. The kids at the Jedi Temple were already Jedi, they were well indoctrinated in the Jedi Way and in his mind there was no saving them and they were a threat. But the children on that list did nothing, they were innocent and might not even know of their gift. The other, more obvious, reason is because he wanted to eliminate any chances of Palpatine finding someone to replace him.

This is something people also don't understand. The Jedi weren't above killing children themselves. Or parents in front of children. Also, they would literally put 11-12 year olds in active combat as Padawans. They gave light-sabers to like 8 year olds and had them fight droids or occasionally each other. I mean Anakin himself built his lightsaber at 12 and started his training at 9, and that was considered late. The security holograms in ROTS show one child with a lightsaber attempting to fight back. Although that looks more like a teenager. These were people who literally trained child soldiers and as you say, indoctrinated them from birth. Or near enough from birth. They were seen as a threat, despite being children.

Vader's response to everything in every movie now must be retroactively changed to "No." And not the cringey RoTS "NO!" scream, just a flat "No." "I sense the good in you let go of your hate...!" No. "I wonder if your feelings on this matter are clear, Lord Vader." No. "Surely you are all that remains of their ancient religion." No. "The son of Skywalker must not be allowed to become a Jedi." No. "He felt surprise was-" No. "Lord Vader... Director Krennik is here to see you." No. etc.

I don't think its just Vader's desire to remain Palpatine's student that caused him to destroy the memory crystall ... I think that its the good in him that caused him to do so... he subconsciously became Anakin again and saved the future of the Jedi... there has always been good in him... I know it !

I think he hates him more than a regular Sith apprentice. Sith apprenti are normally trained to take over and kill their masters to become a master, so i don’t think hate is involved as much as a healthy respect and something to look forward to. Palpatine had no intention of honoring the rule of 2 and letting Vader take over eventually.

Yeah, except that Palpatine made sure that Vader could never try anything, even designing his suit to be vulnerable to force lightening so he was less likely to turn on him. Sidious was more powerful than Vader and could kill him in in instant. Vader always knew that, as much as he dreamed of overthrowing him.

Vader was not a puppy. Both in legends and canon he hated Sidious but at the same time didn't want to lose the only person he once had a personal connection to. Yet, he always wanted to kill him, but never was strong enough (both his will and powers weren't strong enough)

Odds are, Luke’s power in the force prevented Vader from doing so, Jocasta had already given up and didn’t sense Vader until it was too late, whereas Luke might’ve been paying a bit more attention and was blocking Vader’s attempts at levitation. Plus there’s the possibility that Luke wore out Vader more than Jocasta, sure Vader was more damaged here, but those were superficial armor damage. Whereas Luke was fighting Vader in a big pursuit battle across a city underbelly.

Exactly, he was literally saying join or die, by Luke letting go he took that as him choosing to die rather than join him, so saving him would have been pointless, in Vader's eyes.

Honestly it´s probably a bit of both but not wanting to be replaced had the highest weight plus he had no guarantees he would get to train some of those children into being his loyal apprentices, for all he knew Palps could do whatev he wanted with them and bandwagon him with them anytime he wanted to.

I think it would be awesome if you did a comic movie of this comic, you do it so well!! This is by far the best comic in the star wars series that marvel has produced yet!! Luv your channel, keep it up!!

For sure Vader did it to prevent wrinkles from attempting to replace him with a potential new apprentice. I think Palpatine will find out what Vader did. Anybody else think this? Thank you for reading these. Without you I would still be at an ugly precipice. When I was a kid, and was stuck between annoyance that Vader died in Return of the Jedi and also glad that fate that had befallen Vader was rather still his triumph. I was relieved to come across my very first Star Wars comic. At the story of Lady Vader I could not drop that story and publication fast enough. I'm sorry I missed to much over the years but parts of my Star Wars Love is still a kid's. So thank you for reading these. It's like having a bunch of short movies. Awesome.

They put kids on the battlefield, and even had them fight each other with deadly weapons on occasions.

Technically he didn't do it for the well being of the children, he just didn't want to be replaced.

Vader's thoughts: These children must never experience the pain and suffering I go through. They will live happy and healthy lives with their parents. *Destroys the crystal* Continue to live free, kids.

This just adds on the fact that he could LIVE and become GOOD in the end, unlike Legends when he became good and died. He took one step closer or he was never that far gone, I'm looking forward to these comics

Incredible! Definitely gonna check out this comic. It may seem Vader is conflicted, but this seems like Sith 101: lies, deceit, betrayal. Vader doesn't want his master to continue to grow in power and perhaps, find someone else more suitable or a more powerful apprentice.

When he destroyed the crystal, he not only prevented his from master betraying him, he did a selfless act by saving the kids. There's a chance that a little bit of the light shined through.

Vader wanted Starkiller as a apprentice but the rest of the list was uneeded.

The light was never driven from him fully. He hated his life. In a moment of clarity he decided that no one should go through what he did.

I read that issue, Jocasta Nu died . If you look closely at the wreckage behind Vader you'll see he corpse. The background is only penciled and inked, so she is easy to miss at first glance.

That glimmer of the light side, still buried deep within him, not allowing him to set those children on a path similar to his.... ....or that shadow of the dark side, not wanting the competition......

This is awesome.

OH man, makes even more sense now why we see a force sensitive at the end of the last Jedi. Gets me excited about the future of the franchise.

In Legends... Vader had a hand in creating the Rebel Alliance... I Don't Remember if they did so in the new Disney Canon... Anakin had always wanted to be The One who brings peace and justice to the universe... Some of it might have slipped through to Vader in a twisted fashion of overthrowing Sideous and becoming the New Emperor...

He might even have tried to justify it in his own mind as a mercy killing, telling himself that the Clone troopers would have found them anyway before long. The Jedi were hardly paragons of virtue, nor models of child welfare. They put kids on the battlefield, and even had them fight each other with deadly weapons on occasions.

I'd like to think that somewhere in that unfeeling shell of life-support, the man Vader used to be had an influence on his decision to destroy the list and lie to his master (and in doing so protected those children from falling into the emperor's clutches) But really, I have to say Vader was more likely protecting his own position as Palpatine's apprentice

Wow just wow maybe he did it out of fear not to be replaced but I like to believe that the part of sky walker was still in there somewhere and that he did not want to see harm come to these children that some small part of him was human if for just that one moment skywalker wasn’t dead yet he was still alive deep down inside him so thank you very much and I still believe my hero held out of fully becoming evil.

He did not to this for the children but for himself to not be ever replaced as Sidious' apprentice

In Canon, Darth Vader really seems to like kids...from time to time.....and I think it's pretty cool since you can always see, even through his darkest time as Anakin Skywalker, that children were in "another category". Yes he ends up killing the sand people kids and the younglings, but you see more regret and/or hesitation than when he confronts adults.

Great job, Bessy! Really liked the video and this issue! But, I must confess, I still don’t really understand why Vader crushed the microchip. He could’ve used that info to find an apprentice strong enough in the force to help him overthrow Sidious. I realize that the likely explanation for him destroying the chip is that he didn’t want it to fall into Sidious’ hands so that he would not be replaced by someone else. But I would have thought his desire to find a strong apprentice would outweigh this risk, especially considering that he would have been in control of the chip. At this point, has he learned of Luke’s existence? I thought this was before that. But maybe not.

Kirt Garnett it's immediately after episode 3, part of me thinks he doesn't want rivals and the other part says maybe Anakin crushes the chip in an effort to spare the children

@@Trelitty11 I think that's possible. People are like "but he killed younglings, that proves he did not care about children". That forget the younglings in the Temple were *Jedi* already. They'd been indoctrinated into their beliefs since birth, and some had probably already began combat training. They liked to start them young, and literally put teenagers, sometimes pre-teens into active combat. It very likely Anakin in ROTS, if he was even thinking rationally at all, saw the younglings as beyond hope, already owned by the Jedi and a potential future threat. He lumped them in with all the other Jedi as targets to be eliminated to so speak. Or even as a mercy killing because he knew the Clone Troopers would probably find them anyway. I would still kinda argue even at that point in Episode 3 it is not as if he was going out of his way to find as many children as he could to kill because he enjoyed it.

@@englishlady9797 you could literally see the conflict in him before he killed them . and its not like he would have had a choice. The clones would have killed them . had he spared them Palpatine would have seen this as a betraying and killed him as well. There was just no going back

@@Trelitty11 Exactly. He didn't really know what the Sith were about even then. The Jedi didn't exactly educate their members on the subject. He'd just seen him kill Mace Windu, and must've wondered what else he was capable of. Plus locked in a room with a madman who'll kill you if you don't do what he says.
