They use the Dala horse as their symbol, you can see a ton of them everywhere around the town from the police station to street corners, and they have the big ones on the street corners all around town. At age three, my Swedish Grandma brought a Dala horse home from her trip to her homeland. When I finally visited Sweden, I went to the shop where they are made. It was like walking into a real “ Santa’s workshop”. How refreshing to see an older man sitting on a stool carving a horse, while a younger man was watching and learning. You are allowed to tour the studio and talk to the artists. One of my relatives sent each of my three granddaughters a little horse and the tradition continues. They love to play with my collection as well and always ask for the horsies.💕

It should be pointed out that colour is from one specific mine, which is Falun koppargruva. Today the mine is closed; however, in its prime was one of the largest copper mines in Europe. The paint is made out of the mine's tailings (a restproduct from the mine), consisting of hematite, iron(III)oxide that gives its red colure. If you are a metallurgy geek like myself, I can recommend visiting the mine in Falun. Today, only one copper mine is still open in Dalaran, the mine in Garpenberg owned by Boliden.
