How Cyclone Separator Works (EiM series)

Ғылым және технология

Engineering in a Minute (EiM) Series
This video explains what a cyclone separator is and how it functions. Cyclone separators are sometimes referred to as dust separators although its also possible to get hydro cyclones which separate liquids of different densities (different 'phases').
The 3D models in the video can be found at saVRee.com or 3D-knowledge.com.

This was by far the best explanation and probably the quickest one and most clear and easy to understand.

Very well depicted visually. This kind of technology (larger, heavier particles not being able to change directions as fast as the air) was used in the development of the M-60 MBT (Main Battle Tank) with the then new V-12 diesel engine. The concept was a bit different, not using the cyclonic action, rather a maze for the air to travel back and forth thru a 12" wide by 1" channel, changing directions violently every 36" causing the heavy dirt to be discarded at each end of the air travel and dropped into a trough, the now much cleaner air was then directed thru a woven cloth filter element that could be serviced when dirty. The only maintenance needed between filter media service was to remove the accumulated buildup of dirt in the container trough. It was a quantum leap of technology over the old style oil bath filtration system of the previous 50 years. The cyclone ingeniously improves on that concept.

can this cyclone separate the input about 2-3 kinds particle with the same size of grain, but totally different in its densities, example the 100 micron sand and the 100 micron of iron ore. thank you

The air is drawn up through cyclonic action. But the center air is clean and does not contain heavy particles. Not sure if that's what your looking for?
