Honestly my problem with curating your own life on social media is that you literally forget what you are actually doing. I never used to take photos on vacation until I was like 16/17, because I didn't need them, but the older I got the more I understood that social media (not necessarily people) rewards depriving yourself of a experience for the sake of promoting your "experience" outwards. This comes down to creating the perfect life, but not living it. People post on social media because attention is a good thing, we like it and it isn't terrible or even bad to want attention, but actually becoming addicted to it and craving validation, seeking it actively over anything is a bad habit to fall into. Excellent video.

goes both ways, i didnt take shit of the concerts i went to a couple years ago or even some vacations and i wish i shared some good stories or took some decent photos to have those memories in my social media, now im grinding life and i have to romantizice my shitty city life until i can do other things

The epilogue, you were really hitting the core of what I feel too (fashion designer now having a team and making second collection) I would love to follow your thoughts on this search more. Please don’t make content that fits into a certain box or topic, I found you because of fashion but I stayed for you personality and the way you seem different than other fashion channels. Even if you’d make a video on gaming I’d watch it because I’d figure you could give me some different perspective on that because you are so genuine and only talk about things that really interest you. Thank you and love you!

I came to this same realization recently with my art journey. I forced myself into an identity that I felt obligated to maintain. I was plotting my next art work around trends, data, and likes. Had to take a step back. Now I only wish to make the avant-garde. Releasing my most personal and niche ideas into the world and seeing which paths they may open up. The work has become the tool and brush. Life is slowly transforming into the artwork.

Same, I used to think that if the stuff I made was to a certain level and feel intimidiated that my work was realistic or look like other people, but then I realised i wasn’t happy making work for other people so I just said fuck that I started making stuff I like whether it’s not advanced or not I’ll create my own audience

The most significant part of this entirely brilliant video was the epilogue. I truly respect your honesty and openness. Your vulnerability, sharing that you indeed don't have everything figured out, and that you're also subject to the pressures of a social existence, was incredible charming. Your point of view is always appreciated and I will follow your work whatever direction you decide to take it.

I agree with your statement “if I make it a career then it’s no longer genuine” I agree , I feel like money taints things and it’s made me nervous to pursue to a full time art career . I rather have a day job and use it to fund the art stuff I do. Which is specifically for me & my enjoyment. I’ve always felt like once you add money it no longer becomes only about you and fulfilling your creative urges & you’ve known me another perspective on that thought. Thanks for another great video. Btw Make whatever you want cus I’ll watch it cus it’s you :)

I think it’s easier to keep going on KZread if you look at it as a way to document your growth and add dimension to the viewer’s individual perspective. If you niche down to one particular topic, then ofc at some point, you’re gonna be on the hunt for "content" but as most of the comments say, people have come to enjoy your personality and will keep watching if you branch out. Wishing you the best of luck in your journey!!

"If you never speak to another person, do you have any value at all?" This made me think of where different kinds of values sort of intersect, and what it means to hold one aspect of life over another. In this hypothetical, as you said, you would not have any social value, but does the worth of having social value even matter if most of it is curated for the sake of benefit for the curator? I don't know, I'd say thats for the individual to decide. But, in this age, I don't think that people even consider that deciding to place value in something other than social value is an option. Where you would go from there, idk

Hey... I almost never comment on videos. I just wanted to say that I would watch videos that you make on whatever topic interests you. I watch your videos because I think you have interesting taste, and I think that would extend to other things - it is too bad that the algorithm is a monster and your livelihood depends on it. I certainly wouldn't mind if you sprinkled in lesser known video topics with more view-oriented ones. I'm sure most other viewers of your channel wouldn't mind either.

Hi, I watched your video about good taste a while back and this is my second video of yours I’m seeing. Thank you for your insight on curation and how it plays in today’s digital atmosphere ! It’s something that I think about every now and then as well. Such an interesting topic and I feel like you’re on to something !

Good point and well executed. You touch on some interesting stuff. As a professional in fashion I'm glad to see people like you pop up on the scene and offer a different perspective. It's a breath of fresh air honestly. The current state of fashion with all the media's finance coming directly from the power houses (something you've talked about in previous videos) renders the art form one dimensional and hinders growth. It's good to see someone building a platform on constructive criticism. I'm interested to see where this takes you. Hope you don't get too discouraged and quit because it would be a shame. Cheers!

i completely understand what you said in the epilogue. i graduated high school this year after spending years thinking i'd get into fashion school, but the more i started making clothes and acessories and trying to sell them during high school, the more i felt uncomfortable doing so. it really stopped being genuine. this last year i focused more on creating for myself and everything started feeling mine again, yk? i realized i liked fashion too much for it to be a job or something to share with others. or maybe i didn't like it enough to pursue it as my career. either way, at least i started getting genuinely excited about fashion again. about your channel, although i got interested in it because of my own interest in fashion, i actually stayed because of how sincere your opinions seem and because i find you entertaining, not really the subject you're talking about. i'd probably stick around even if you talked about your other interests, and i think that's the case for many people that watch your videos as well. anyways, i hope you find genuine joy in making youtube videos again, whether they're fashion related or not. thank you for all your amazing videos, wishing you luck!!

Kind of seems like a boomer take, that curation is devalued since everyone online is a curator now? In a way, its kind of beautiful how fast ideas have to evolve since novelty gets attention. Even though the individual instagram curated profile feels permanent, what is on your feed is very impermanent. People are still curious and the idea train is moving fast. Shit posting is the new curation/ quantity over quality.

this is such an utopian idea at this point, but the internet and youtube started as a way to connect and share ideas and build community (and originally as a military technology I guess but whatever). Your approach to whatever topic you choose is what makes your channel so interesting, its a winning mix of style and substance. Maybe its a good idea to be less restrictive of the type of topics you choose, could it be fashion and also art or music or whatever. All the best

I was thinking that maybe data isn't a really form of curation, but being a reaction of the curation of an algorythim, for example, the youtubers do not only think about the content of the video based on quality, they also think in a appeal to the algorithym, as some contents ( ex sensitive content) it won't get as much views as a more family friendly video would get, so the public already gets this curation from the social media based on what's best for youtube to have that content linked with it's image, so the data doesn't always mean a curation when that visibillity is not organic and spontaneous, which means a curation, coming from an algorythim. (Sorry for the shitty english, writting on my phone and not native english speaker)

I share your feeling of dissatisfaction with curation in art. Capitalism seems to rob all the joy in life. The vibrancy of art in the creation of the bourgeois order has decayed to such an extent it's tragic. That's not to say there is no good art, but the general malaise if our society infects art itself. As artists we do not live outside of society. We are conditioned by it. Valuing art for art's sake is untenable while art is geared towards commodity production instead of individual fulfillment.
