Coolio sits down with Martin & Fionnuala to chat about Gangsta's Paradise hitting a billion streams and how the song has lived on for 27 years.
He explains his creative process behind writing the song and how he feels the song actually wrote him. He talks about the reasons why the song transcends generations.
Coolio also tells the story of trying to convince Stevie Wonder to let him sample his song, Pastime Paradise. Stevie finally agreed if Coolio agreed to remove some of the swears.
He also talks about how his record label, Tommy Boy Records didn't believe the song would do that well & had no issue with the it being used in the movie Dangerous Minds. Coolio went on to make 100 thousand dollars for using the song in the soundtrack. At the time, this was the most money anyone had been paid for a soundtrack.
Coolio chats about performing the Keenan & Kel intro song and how it was a vitally important career move for him.
Later, He talks about his love for Ireland and explains how he likes Guinness but not to drink, he explains how it makes a good base for gravy.
