How come Obi-Wan didn’t sense that something was up with Krell?

The Jedi always seem to sense what's up. That's why we're asking today: how come Obi-Wan's senses failed him in such a critical moment in Umbara?

Considering that the Dark Side clouded the vision of the Jedi High Council. The fact the most powerful of the Jedi couldn’t even consider that the Dark Lord of the Sith was literally right next door show you that the Jedi were losing their ability in the force. But the most effective weapon against Jedi seems to be the erosion of the spirit." - HK-47.

I don't think it was that Jedi were unable to detect those who had fallen to the dark side, but that they refused to actively probe for those who had fallen. A dark side user, while attempting to hide their identity, logically, would suppress any outward emanations of dark side powers until the time was right, thus requiring light siders to actively probe the thoughts of those around them to find those who had fallen to the dark side. Yet for light siders, running around reading everyone's mind would be wrong, because doing so is a fundamental violation of a person's privacy... It just wouldn't be the Jedi way. It's a catch-22 situation. Ok... now let me finish the video and see if you come to a similar conclusion.

If you think about it, the Clone War was setting all the Jedi on a dark path. As you've demonstrated in this video with Krell, some turned sooner than others, but I'd imagine it could have caused even more to slip to the dark side. Why would Jedi have ever been put in charge of soldiers? Who decided that would be a good idea? Why would Yoda approve this? The Jedi most likely remembered how they used to command armies thousands of years before and assumed that they would be up to the task once again. What they didn't realize was that the Sith were manipulating them, and there was also an ancient Sith Temple buried under the Jedi Temple which gradually corrupted the Order itself to the point that they didn't even notice it, in fact the amount of Jedi turncoats might have been directly linked to the Sith Temple's corruption

I'm not omniscient, no Jedi is. In fact, the Dark Side is inherently difficult to sense because it clouds the vision of the Jedi. Dark Side users know how to shield themselves from being sensed. I don't know where this myth of Jedi being able to always sense the Dark Side came from. The only time Jedi ever sensed the Dark Side was when Dark Side users didn't hide it. Sensing the Dark Side in people is entirely dependent of those people not concealing the Dark Side in them.

It was stated in attack of the clones that the Jedi their ability to use the force had been diminished. I believe that is why they could not sense the fall of multiple Jedi and padawans. Plus roughly a thousand years of peace and sitting on top of a dark side Nexus and Temple probably did not help things.

I kinda hate how in Star Wars Force users are able to “sense” all these things but the movies and shows very vaguely describe how and why they can sense these things. Like Sidious is able to “cloud” the force so that literally all of the Jedi don’t know what’s going on. I know palpating was super powerful, but so were all the Jedi.

And since they’ve constantly been exposed to dark side energy. They wouldn’t notice. They filtered it out as background noise like they have been doing for all of the Sith artifacts and Darkside of the force that’s constantly being surrounding them on croissant.

I particularly like the fog of war idea. Assuming aliens have emotional bandwidths similar to humans, constant combat would make controlling the anger, sorrow, guilt, and other intense emotions natural to war difficult to manage. Most Jedi probably had these fluctuations so Krell probably appeared as a normal Jedi in the context of battle. Also we know that the Jedi had a diminished ability to use the force. They didn't even know that the clones were being created which deeply disturbed Yoda and Windu. Sidious's plan was the perfect storm to weaken the Jedi's connection with the Force. Also consider that light side and dark side are not settings on a washing machine. Luke didn't become sith because he almost like Kylo. It takes time and dedication to drawing from the dark side in order to truly fall.
