The most effective method for us so far has been to directly email coaches with video and links to KZread and Twitter profiles. It’s fairly easy to tell if they are genuinely interested or just want to have you pay for a camp.

Great stuff as always Alex ... my 2024 C has followed this approach (1, 2 and 3) and then shared his tournament schedule with coaches that liked his highlight video and social media posts. They came and watched him at tournaments ... some have offered, and others have invited him to camp to get him in front of the head coach for a decision. Really like how you lay all of this out in a structured approach & process-oriented way ... as long as the kid can play & perform, the approach and process does work. Thanks for all of the great info and advice!

Agreed. Travel ball and tournaments are broken.

Another good one Alex. Do college coaches at D1 or D2 look for high school guys that can help right away or do they take into consideration projections? Like if a 2024 LHP throws 83 with movement (change up with movement and slider) what he could be 18 months from now when the college baseball season comes.

Great content as always. Related to the comments below - not sure if the toothpaste can be put back in the tube but eliminating the one year sit rule has been horrible for most people involved

great video, as always, Alex!! Question: would you recommend putting season stats in a highlight video or do coaches really only want to see swing/speed/power, etc? Thx!

Hey Alex, when should a kid start to reach out to these college coaches? Freshmen year? Sophomore year? Or should a kid start as early as middle school?

    Sophomore year I would recommend.

Recruiting is just going terrible for 2024's. Got a kid hits 105+ exit velo, throws 95 from outfield, runs a 6.7 60 and has stats to back it up. Good build 6-2. And nothing. Goes to showcases, camps, tournaments and tears it up, and nothing. D1 schools aren't looking for the high schooler. Transfer portal and juco guys. It's unreal.

Yep came here to say the same thing. Plus I think a lot of the 2024 kids that were previously committed are in for a rude awakening when they get on campus. A lot of their spots are going to be spoken for or there just won't be the money there that they once were promised. The whole landscape of college baseball has radically changed just within a few years.

It’s definitely highly competitive and most schools seem to go to the portal first since these kids are known quantities. Then, coaches go to high school kids to fill their remaining needs. On the positive side, once a kid is playing in college, the portal may be a big advantage if they want to move to another program. We know a lot of talented players struggling to get recruited so it takes daily work to get committed. Kids have to work as hard marketing themselves as they do practicing baseball.

Showball Showcase is absolutely where my player had success in being recruited(Thanks Alex for the drop about showball). Tournaments are hit and miss.. depending on how good of a travel team you're on. Best of Luck to all!
