How carbon improves flooded lead-acid batteries in off-grid solar with Rolls Battery

Ғылым және технология

On this edition of The Pitch, we look at how applying a carbon additive in traditional flooded lead-acid batteries significantly improves their performance in off-grid solar applications. Here to give us the details is Jeff Myles, marketing manager for Rolls Battery.
- First we get into the science behind the carbon additive.
- Then we compare the performance of the Advanced NAM carbon additive batteries from Rolls to the previous generation.
- We compare maintenance requirements versus AGM batteries
- And we end by contrasting them with lithium-based batteries in off-grid applications.

During the late nineties through early 2k's I designed and installed dozens of off-grid systems using exclusively Flooded Lead Acid batteries and all battery banks had a solid 7-year life, three days of autonomy, and plenty of wind/solar to keep the battery bank properly maintained. Yes, they need regular watering, but with automatic watering systems, it was not the problem most pundits make it out to be. The fact that this battery chemistry has been around for decades and are much cheaper than current L-Ion chemistry speaks of its reliability to provide power when needed. Too many false claims by new L-Ion salesmen and manufacturers is not doing the industry any good.

L-ion should not be touted as catch-all solution, it has its places, but stationary batteries is not one of them.

They ran carbon lead in an Insight hybrid back in the day with good results. Look, take activated carbon, grind it and mix it with acrylic concrete patch liquid. Paint the anode and forget about these crazy prices. This shouldn't be so costly. Half of lithium price is still 3X too high. Thanks for the video.

*They do it with simple sugar - THE SECRET: They add 15% Sugar-Water to a 25% H2SO4 solution At the SAME-TIME. The Sulfuric acid turns the sugar into CARBON-BLACK and makes the acid thicker. It works sure but kind of expensive for a SECRET RECEIPT you can do yourself at home* - To give you the basic concept - kzread.info/dash/bejne/jIOZxqygobe6aag.html

@@johnslugger So once the reaction is completed, add ratio battery acid as usual and go. You now have a lead carbon battery? Wow! And I do greatly appreciate this reply. It was right under our noses the whole time.

Unlike Lithium........lead doesnt randomly catch on fire. LG lithium home storage had its units go through a nationwide product recall in Australia. Bus fleets in London,Paris and Germany had lithium fires........e-bikes and scooters have had lithium fires. Plus they have been exposed at the National Battery testing center in Australia to have a 15 to 30% storage capacity degradation in just 4 years on daily cycling.

I believe there's a threshold at which all battery cells can be destroyed, kind of like knocking the foundation out from under a house. A basic seed has to remain to recharge. I hope this is correct.

it battery replacement time leaning towards lithium iron phosphate for the simple less headache / maintenance . you can buy 200 A/hr off alibaba way cheaper than from retail in canada

Nope unimpressed same old FLA. Rolls must move forward quickly they are being disrupted, best short term answer would be to buy into partnership with Lithium ion China producer and hope there costomers dont bolt!
