Good points. If your adjusters are hard to turn you should go see your luthier. I always check these for my customers. Also the bridge should be 90 degrees to the tailpiece side of the bridge, the side facing the nut is carved.

Sometimes you can just remove your bridge and add some kind of dry lubricant to the threads and flat side that spins on the non threaded side. (graphite/candle wax works well)

@@mikeperez7629 Absolutely. I didn't suggest removing the bridge because there is a very good possibility that your sound post will fall out. There may be viewers here that are not prepared to deal with that. ;-)

Thank you for this video - could you possibly measure the gap between each string and fingerboard in the middle of the fingerboard (octave position). For your orchestra setup. That would be really helpful. I started to learn double bass and still have a feeling like the strings are too high and I have to work too heavily with my left hand.

From what I know from luthiers, it’s generally 6 mm for the G string and one additional millimeter for each string lower than that.

I use a Fishman pick-up on my Chinese laminate starter job double bass. I bought it cheap when I added upright to my electric bass playing bag of tricks about five years ago. Time to trade up. Think I'm going to spring for a fully carved one, if I can find one for sale at the ISB conference this summer, without having to take out a second mortgage on my home. Any suggestions or better yet, an upload about what to look for in the next level of instrument primarily for jazz pizz and trio playing, would be greatly appreciated! The transponder for the 101is in the right leveling wheel. I don't screw around with it much because the wheel position can indeed affect the amplified sound. But I do have to adjust it for changes in the weather, or the fingerboard will cause the strings to buzz like a swarm of African Murder Hornets! 🐝🐝🐝🐝

I play rockabilly/honky tonk, and I’m still struggling with finding the perfect string height/bridge adjustment for my style of playing. The only thing I know to do is keep trying until I find the best setting. I’m about two years into this journey.

If you are starting to make adjustments should you bottom out, mark the the halfs, and then adjust up? Also, I only play pizzicato.

Tell me about some CC. From 06:39, there is "This is about the most boring I'm going to use and it's not going on the G string. And in a good setup, generally, if it's not boring on the G-string, it's not going to be on the other strings as well." But for me it hears different "bowing" not "boring" or "going". I'm a foreigner and uses CC to understand your story exactly.

The CC must have made a translation mistake-I was saying bowing. I was referring to using a lot of bow weight and hearing the G string buzz against the fingerboard. I’m trying to upload better subtitles for future videos, so hopefully this kind of thing will be clearer!

@@doublebasshq There are some apparent errors in CC. But the majority of them can be corrected according to your voice and context.

When I try to turn the wheel in my adjusters the foot of the bridge starts turning with the wheel. Any ideas?

Hold the bridge foot with one hand and use waterpump pliers to turn the wheel. Bass of Luck!

You need to lubricate your adjusters. With dry lubricant like graphite.
