Hey guys here's a tip for cutting down your chain if you don't have the tool to do it, I use a drill bit to grind off the flat side of the chain pin, only takes around a minute until you are left with no flat side then you can just push it out with a screw driver, hope that's useful to someone and I explained it well enough :) good luck guys

Nice video. Thank you. I just bought a chain breaker and wanting to learn how to use it; your video is a big help. I’m a farmer and have been changing roller chains for over 20 years and you taught me a couple new things. #41 chain is exactly what we use on our corn planter row drive units.

have a 420 on a kit just finished. it seems that its too wide. do they make a thinner version as mine walks around the rear sproket left to right.

You make putting that clip on look so easy lol…I’m using same pliers and have been struggling to get it in for 40 mins.

I use needle-nose pliers i “modified” with one of the tips bent right at the tip, just the tiniest bit, makes putting the clips on alot easier.

Thank you but for a rolling gate I guess the direction of the clip doesn't matter since it gets pulled in both directions.

just an FYI on a new chain if you lightly grind the chain where you are going to use this tool it comes apart very easily.

@Hughes motorized. So are the chains that come with the motorized bike kits beveled? Do you've to grind the bevel down first? Or can you just go straight to the chain breaker tool and pop the pin out with it? Thx for the help. Always love how well you explain and especially how well you show the stuff you're explaining. I just use the tool. No grinding. Some of the pins are flat and some have a slight angled bevel

@@HughesMotorized to for the reply brother. One more question if it's ok. What ratio mix do u use from the 1st to last of mixed gas. I got 93 premium no ethanol. But not sure how much. To many ppl say different things. I trust you the most. I think 40.1 would be good but would like to know what you think. Thx very much

@@HughesMotorized I've researched it and it seems the regular unleaded gas has lots of bad stuff that gets in it. Especially water which is really bad right. So wouldn't premium gas be better as it doesn't have that much stuff in it. But I'm guessing this is what you use and have never had a problem. Honestly I wasn't expecting that answer. I appreciate your honestly and straight up answer. The best ppl to learn from are the ones with experience. Thx again

@@stephentrujillo7555 My philosophy is to keep it simple and cheap. Never had an issue. Only issue w/ gas is if I let the bike sit for months over the winter or get a new bike and let one sit. Fuel stabilizer or draining the carb would have avoided the issue. these are very simple, cheap motors. No desire to spend more on gas or oil than I spend on an engine. I've been running my current one for 5 years no issues

My chain is on a robot that moves forward and backward, that sounds like a problem for the master link. What are other options? Can I extend the chain and push pins back in? If not with this tool, with which?

You can also use an angle grinder to knock the head off of the rivet and then the pin will usually fall right out.

You can buy the exact one he has and it'll work on all types of chains from bike chains , dirt bike chains and chain saw chains .

start at 4oz and if you are getting smoke... then go to 3.5, new motors will always smoke.. so run a couple gallons through at 4oz before lowering it.. If no smoke at 4oz then your golden..

Do you need a bench vise for this tool? Every time I try to tighten it and push it out the two ends just open up. Am I missing something?

If the tool is the right size the two jaws should stay under the plate.. No vise needed. I just used it to make framing the shot

⁠​⁠​⁠​⁠@@HughesMotorized that’s odd the tool I bought looks identical to yours and is for size 25-60 chain, I’ve been trying to shorten a size 25 chain for 3 days and can’t get anything to work I’m starting to get really frustrated and am about to just give up I don’t know what else to try nothing is working. Every video I’ve seen makes it look like it should be easy and no problem at all and I’ve been struggling for hours and days on end to push two stupid pins out.

@@fredfrederickson Many of the lower-end chain tools take some technique to use. The tool's pin often slides off or like you are experiencing, the jaws slip. Need to get jaws firmly in place and under the plate while aligning the tool's pin with the pin on the chain's pin. Once it is aligned and secure then you slowly tighten the tool up to break the chain. Tell ya what. I'll upload a better vid this weekend showing how

@@HughesMotorized appreciate it. I feel like I’m doing the same thing as you and in all the other videos but it just won’t work for me. I’ve bought two separate tools and now I’m buying two more to see if I have any better luck and if that doesn’t work maybe I’ll just throw the whole scooter in the river at this point.

Yes you can if you have room to get the tool on the chain. Easier to remove once you get the hang of it

Is the closed end facing the direction of rotation? That helps. That and maybe swap to a Skateboard wheel on the tensioner

I don’t understand why you had to break the chain twice , why didn’t you just drive one of the chain pins out at the length that you wanted?

Good question. I think it's because on this kind of chain tool, it has a cone-shaped pusher pin, so it goes into the plate only far enough to push the pin through the top plate. So you use it on two adjacent pins to remove the plate. The alternative is to use a tool whose pusher pin is a rod slightly smaller than the chain's pins, and you can use that to push the one pin all the way through the bottom plate as well, at least until it's almost flush with the bottom plate, and then the two links come apart.

i just use a punch and a hammer but this would most likely be better lol
