How Bleeding Prosthetics Are Created For Movies And TV | Movies Insider
Фильм және анимация
Creating Hollywood's bloodiest scenes requires equal parts art and science. We visited Brett Schmidt and Greg Pikulski at the prosthetic makeup and practical effects studio SPFX to find out how they create bleeding prosthetics for movies and TV.
Having worked on mob movies like "The Irishman," crime dramas like "Ray Donovan," horror movies like "The Dead Don't Die," and medical shows like "New Amsterdam," Brett and Greg know how to create gnarly injuries on camera. They show us how they would create the effects for a cut artery, an abdomen slash, a gunshot to the head, and more, using materials ranging from a garden sprayer to a blood cannon.
They break down how to pull off grounded, realistic blood effects, like a bullet or laceration wound, as well as more stylized ones, like a Quentin Tarantino-style kill. Find out the distinct challenges of making actors convincingly gush, spurt, and spill blood on screen.

This is one of the things I'm very curious about my whole life but too lazy to look up for answers or thought that I wouldn't find one. Thanks Insider!

Me lol
this is so disgustingly cool. i am extremely disgusted at the viscosity of some type of bloods. even the realism of some wounds. but fascinated by the hard work and effort
The prosthetics were made so perfectly that they had to include a graphics warning lol!!

Seeing this makes me think that they have actually seen real injuries on people and cadavers. They might actually have a medical degree that required studying cadavers.

You are not wrong. For example, makeup artist for The Walking Dead had to study photos of bodies decaying in different stages. I could never do that. Don't care to see it.

Looking at RL gore doesn't require a degree. Just a strong stomach.

Many times they bring actual surgeons/doctors to check the prop or even give directions on how to make it.

There's a sussy website called "Live Leak"
Lmao. It showed a dozen gruesome scenes before the "warning: graphic" popped up. Good one guys.
I've always wondered this because I've been wanting to make a prosthetic that sprays blood.

2:17 Sir , Sir!
Ultra slime is so much fun to use ❤️❤️ I remember being the model in my makeup class a few years ago for some blood rigging. It was really awesome seeing how it’s put together and the outcome. :)

I wonder how we are all made of flesh and blood and yet are terrified to look at it

That's easy, we're not used to see it out of our bodies. Regularly it's held by a couple of layers of the street-called "skin"

evolution doesn't want us to LIKE the look of wounds :]
@BigOlSmellyFlashlight

thats exactly why, we evolved to think that seeing anyone wounded meant something was wrong
Who knew the guys behind the effects are just as good looking as the actors!
this looks so disturbing even if its fake :00 i feel pain in my eyes
I always wanted to see how they do it but never thought of looking it up on the internet. Finally this found me itself. Now i want to know how do they do the blowing of heads and other body parts. I won't look for it either.
It sucks being really squeamish but also finding blood and violence interesting too

If only this video was there when I was traumatized by the movie Saw as a kid.
I remember watching a TV show years ago about effects people at work. Particularly the guy with the machete with a half moon circular cutout on the blade side. He would hold it up and then put the circular cutout around his arm and it looked like the machete was embedded in his arm. He also talked about the groove cut into it where fake blood would flow so that he could make it look like he was bleeding. A very effective presentation. That made me think that shows like that should be shown to kids so that they know that the violence and gory sights in movies and TV aren't real. Another example would be the recent video by Tom Scott where he did a fight scene like for a movie. My favorite takeaway from that was "Victim Control" (if I remember the name correctly). With one actor holding the other by the hair, the "victim" moves their head around like the other one is pulling it. So, when it looks like the one is pulling the other's head back violently, it's the other actor that is moving their head and not injuring themselves. Nice. This particular video though would have to be the last in any series shown to a kid, preferable a kid that would seem mature enough to understand and not be traumatized by the fake wounds.
This is called Skills 💥😮
Not the most important part of the video - but Only Murders In The Building is so good you gotta watch it!! That prosthetic really did creep me out 😅

even knowing this is fake, i cant help but feel uncomfortable watching.
what would happen if someone was to get impaled and then pull out the sword/sharp object?
I imagine it helps that wounds often swell and become inflamed
