    Modern pop records, yeah maybe, but I once heard Sade's engineer tell the story how she would always sing without headphones, a little speaker at her feat so she could track the song. It's really superior for the singer, as staying on key is so much easier, which boosts confidence, which boosts quality.

    @@AudioHaze It's actually entirely doable, with the right mic, and if you record the track through the microphone in the same spot in the room without vocals after you recorded the vocals, you can run that second one with flipped phase which eliminates a lot of the bleed.

  • @elMatip
    @elMatip18 күн бұрын

    I think it is so cool the changes they have made and I'm glad she's in a place where she can express herself fully as well as actually enjoy making music cuz I know at one point in an interview, (possibly the Zane Lowe one) where she was really enjoying making music and Finneas wasn't and how it's usually the other way around for them. Of course, as a listener who absolutely loves this album and all the subtleties built into each song, I hope they continue to make more music like this in the future and not be afraid to keep making authentic music all the way around where they take risks by allowing the lyrics and production to create a world of it's own while also being able to hear every emotion each time. It's so cool listening to The Greatest and Wildflower and fully hearing the pain or uncomfort in her voice and then listening to Lunch or The Diner where it's more sassy and confident. Idk man I think it's so cool and I couldn't be happier that I get to hear this music in my lifetime. You explained all of this so well! I really appreciate you breaking down how both the production and her vocal treatment have changed over the years. It gave me a new way to think about music production and solidified a few things I had already thought of myself so thank you! Keep up this amazing content!

    Man, I know you had no intention of doing so, but by deep diving into Billy's music, you also made a superb point in defending today's music. Seeing the recent discussions raised by Rick Beato's recent videos, and one of the cases he presented for why music is'bad' nowadays (I'm paraphrasing, but that was about it) being "everyone can produce music nowadays", you just proved a point that yes, there's bad music being made by opportunists, bad music being made by people who will get better at it and awesome music being made in teenager's rooms, like Billy's first record. Thank you for teaching us so much, even if resources are scarce and everything. Those who want to learn and are doing a mediocre job nowadays (and I include myself in that), will eventually gather enough knowledge to become better at music making, music writing, music producing. Thank you, you are doing a terrific job.

    Commenting again, but this time with a request, as I've seen everybody requesting something. LOL. You could do a deep dive into Stephen Wilson Jr., his approach to guitar sounds (lots of effects, nylon strings), the muffled drum bass sound he gets on Year to be Young (1994)... or maybe that's not your kind of music, and that's ok. :)

    Happier Than Ever is a great album. I'ld say it is more easily accessible than Hit Me Hard And Soft and I understand your sentiment. But give it some time to grow on you. It is a great record in its own right. It is something very different, very personal, very varied but somehow also very consistent. It feels a bit like a concept album to me. Happier Than Ever feels like a collection of great songs, Hit Me Hard And Soft is more like a journey. You can listen to the tracks individually but they gain something in context of each other.

    This is going to sound rude but I feel so much modern music being made is purely self absorbed, it’s not about us (the people) anymore. Here’s my project, look at me, give me your eyes and ears. I don’t feel seen by so many big names.

  • @AudioHaze

    Not rude at all man, I totally get you. I think there's a tendency for artist to want to express themselves and their struggles in the HOPE that others will relate, but its not for the express reason of relating to others. For me, Radiohead was the artist who truly spoke to me. Their writing really let the instrumental speak to me with the words supporting, sometimes the words are nonsensical and I could find my own meaning by related my own experience to them. Keep searching I'm sure you'll find an artist that speaks to you in a way no other artist will.

    @@AudioHaze appreciate the thoughtful response! You're spot on, it's a fine line to walk; hard to be relatable if you're not relating your own experience. I'm going to have to listen to Radiohead more, I know a few of their tracks but never took a dedicated listen! Appreciate it a ton man, just feels like for this time in history no one is talking about what's happening, maybe Grandson is the closest that comes to mind... I'm sure there's a lot more out there. need to search for it.
