As the country's largest conglomerate, I hope SM switches from retail/services and venture more towards industrialism and manufacturing. The country needs to industrialise for any hope of becoming a developed nation. As the biggeat fish in the pond SM carries great responsibility for industrializing the country. Please be more like Toyota, Samsung, HHI, and Mitsubishi heavy industries and less like Walmart, Aeon and Ikea

Not sure if he mentioned it but the rise of Filipinos wanting to go to the mall in the 90's is partially due to climate. People with money want to dress nice and do nice things but it's absurdly too hot be wearing layers and staying outside a lot. The mall became the unofficial parks for the daytime while the official parks usually stay empty until the sun is weak. People go to the malls with no intention of buying anything really but to just hang out and enjoy the massive air conditioning.

What touched me most about SM malls is they give importance to little people like myself. Notice where their public transport terminals are located - right in front of their malls, in the most prime of locations - unlike in other malls where the commuting public has a hard time accessing public transport. I believe they realized early on that it's the combined spending power of the little people that would sustain its growth in the long run, and it's paying off handsomely.

Thats because SM malls wanted to temp you from buying in their mall before going home. Also SM malls tends to be a mall for commoner or those in the middle class at least so they have to make it more accessible but give importance to little people? I don't think so, they dont evem regularize their employees. They dont care about small people, they just want you to spend.

@@skyscraper7664 No company would regularize all staff if their business is seasonal, would you? SM malls have year-round regular staff AND they hire extras during the holidays. Btw, I think you missed my point. Compare the location of SM public transport terminals to those of Ayala and Robinson malls from years back. They must have realized what SM has been doing coz lately, the Ayalas developed that magnificent transport terminal right where the Intercontinental Hotel was, EDSA cor Ayala Ave. Also, all mall owners would want people to shop in their malls, not only SM.

SM is great at everything but I have to say this from my personal experience: Their Bowling Centers suck. Why ? Because they can be overcrowded easily with casual bowlers, they’re overpriced and worst of all is their Pinsetters were poorly maintained and the mechanics were barely qualified to work on them since they didn’t do any Maintenance and also not staying behind the Lanes at all times.
