This scholar did an outstanding job of explaining this painting. I would really enjoy more discussions from him.
please keep doing these mini-lecture sharings, i will watch anything you folks make! it’s wonderful to have someone point out little details and take us through the paintings with the necessary context. it also helps me appreciate art that i’m not immediately visually drawn to.
Daniel Sobrino Ralston has explained the painting very clearly and beautifully. While visiting churches and museums in Europe, I had the chance to see a lot of paintings about Archangel Michael. But I had never heard of Bartolomé Bermejo before. The surfaces in the painting look so real that I can feel them in my hand if I touch them. Thanks a lot for this beautiful video.
As a British artist (and an ex Londoner) living in San Diego I've really enjoyed these postings from The National Gallery. This was a particularly good one, and such a handsome chap to boot!
Beautiful. That green velvet covering is sublime. Thank you.
Tank you for sharing. Greetings from Northern Germany ✨👨🎨✨
Absolutely stunning painting! I really hope to visit the Gallery one day to see it in person. It will be all the better knowing all this about it and the artist.
Fantastic video. Although I was actually expecting a little bit more discussion about the cactus on the demon's head. Cactuses were more or less exclusive to the Americas, and the Spanish didn't make it to the new world until a couple of decades after the piece was painted
Brilliant and informative. Much appreciated. You have my thanks. Greetings from western Canada.
Beautiful presentation. Thank you.
Extremely engaging and well-reasoned.
Thanks for the video, National Gallery
What a voice, dude. Congrats.
Great video! Really enjoyed this
Very interesting and well presented! Thank you!!
Great upload. Thank you for all the detailed information.
Fabulous painting,beautifully described.
Not sure why I was recommended this but I appreciate it.
Absolutely wonderful painting 🌟
Excellent - Besonders interessant finde ich die Signatur auf dem gemalten Zettel. Thank you.
Thanks for a fantastic explanation 😊
Scary isn't it? Love the detail fabric and jewels.
` 🕊️ As always wonderful work. Thanks a bunch.
thank you for at least mentioning the masterful rendering of the reflection in the armour. it is on a par with that in the mirror of the Arnolfini portrait.
Thank you. 🇺🇲
Was this the original composition, or was the point of the sword lost?
0:47 Detailed depiction: to grip the sword guard with index finger and thumb for better point control.
That was interesting! I am from Valencia and I wonder how one of our paintings ended there! Has the trip till the National Gallery ever been traced?
😍
That's one scary devil! I wouldn't want to meet that up a dark alley! I love the reflection on the breastplate...full marks for attention to detail 👍🎨
Honestly I want my own torso to look like a demon face
This is only my opinion, but the Devil or evil in this painting resembles figures or entities, hallucinations I’ve personally seen while on psychedelics. Could this painting have possibly been influenced by the eating of hallucinogenic cactus..?
