Easily one of the best shows ever made. So many good episodes, Heart of Ice, Mad Love, Almost Got ‘im, Beware the Gray Ghost. This was the show that introduced me to Batman and I will be forever grateful to the show runners and the VA’s. There will never be another like Kevin Conroy.

There are few people who will leave a legacy, like Kevin Conroy. He got it. He understood who the character is and what should inspire us to be like. Batman is us. The legend in its purest form. "Almost got him," "Heart of Ice," "Over the Edge," are probably my top 3, and that's a hard question to answer.

My father passed away shortly before the premier of the show, so every episode that dealt with Bruce Wayne's parents hit deeply & Conroy's performance was always authentic to my own, like my father Kevin was taken by cancer, but I'm glad he lived a full life & didn't suffer long.

I was coming home from work when I saw it pop up on my news feed. My heart dropped and felt my eyes swell. I, then, found the VHS of Mask of the Phantasm and watched it (I haven’t seen the movie in years and was one of my favorites as a kid). I just cried when Bruce pleaded to his parent’s grave to let him let go of his vow and be happy. My heart still aches cause he was a big part of my childhood as well as others. His creativity of crafting a perfect duality for the character is unmatched. Not to mention how kind and gentle a soul he was in reality from all the interviews and testimonials from his peers. He will definitely be missed and, like many have echo since, he is our Batman.

Best show ever. I used to get frustrated over the limited merchandising available at the time, especially as I had to travel a fair distance to a WB store. The show is the definitive Batman universe for me and will never be beaten in my eyes. Batman TAS is legendary and will be loved for many years to come, Conroy was always my Batman and always will be, I got to meet him at a convention one year and shake his hand, he was a really nice and down-to-Earth guy who talked to his fans like they were old friends. He's going to be sorely missed and I'm hoping his family will be okay.

"Deep Freeze" from season two is my favorite. When that giant robot rises out of the water to spring Mr. Freeze from prison, It was the perfect intro to an episode that just gets better as you watch. Batman's empathy for Victor Fries and the tragedy that befell Nora was still there in this second season follow-up story. The 1990's was an animation wonderland and I'm so glad I got to experience it.

This series helped me deal with the death of my family members. That life goes on and that it's a bumpy road at times. I go to comic cons throughout the country. So seeing Kevin Conroy was a Joy and an honor. RIP Kevin, you'll always be my favorite Batman. I would say there were numerous episodes that were my favorites. Ones that explored Bruce Wayne's psyche were great. Like the animated movies, ect. What was his motivation to putting on a batsuit? I was at work when I heard that he passed away at the age of 66. Sadly my birthday was the day after his death. I just turned 60. Kevin's birthday is November 30th, he would of been 67.

While not my favorite. Azrael-Batman IS awesome. Its a version I would like to see return one day, maybe in an animated movie adaptation of knight fall, or as a villain in a new batman story. I dont get the flack he receives since it serves as just a dark batman who plays the role until bruce wayne returns. Much like Dick Graysons batman in the comics. My favorite version aside from the new 52 batman series, and before crisis batman, IS batman Beyond.

    1. The 2 part episode where Batman had to help Ras al Ghul find his daughter and Robin after both were taken - he saved the entire world in that episode. 2. As corny as the movie was, I liked how Val Kilmer's take was very haunted, Bob Kane was said to have liked it. I want more Affleck though (I didn't hate Pattinson's version). 3. 1. I think the episode was called "Blind as a Bat", an episode where Batman goes blind. Only because it's the only one I saw on TV with my mom. It was the reruns on The Hub, now known as Discovery Kids. I also favor the episode where Joker basically tortures this guy, even after he changed his name and address, but by the end of the episode, the guy pretends to go crazy, and it freaks Joker out so much that he screams for Batman to help him. I can't remember what that episode was called. 2. In general, definitely Kevin Konroy. He's the first voice I think of when I think of Batman. 3. I was doing laundry in my house. I was scrolling through my phone when BatmanArkhamVideos posted a notification that he had passed away. I was shocked and confused, and it just came out of absolutely nowhere. Part of me is still in denial. Thank you, Kevin, for being the Batman.

    1. Hard to say I have a favorite Episode of BTAS. I loved all them really. Though something that stood out to me was the Mask of Phantasm movie that was also part of this Universe even getting a slight mention in the last episode of Justice League Unlimited. The conflict and emotion in that film and the story was a massive contrast of something that you don't see explored much. Batman trying to deal with the idea of maybe he found an out. 2. My favorite Batman is Kevin Conroy hands down. BTAS and DCAU from the 90s and early 2000s was my childhood. 3. I was at home when I saw it on facebook and sat there for a moment and stated to my wife "well my childhood just died". BTAS and Conroy was a HUGE part of my childhood that will be missed.

Almost Got him has got to be my favorite episode. I remember this was the first show NOT to identify what it was at the beginning in contrast to shows like Transformers and X Men, but you still knew this is Batman. I agree that Kevin Conroy portrayal of Batman was the most iconic but also varied. His version of Batman was grim yes, but we also saw Batman tease Alfred, and have more variety in his emotions than any other version. I was at home when the news broke about Conroys death. R..I.P. Kevin Conroy

Answers as follows: 1. Favorite episode. For a lot of people, this question is a tough one. I will say, "Heart of Ice," although several are a close second. Perhaps it's the ever-hopeful element in me that still loves, "It's Never Too Late." That episode not only showed how two people along the same path can choose differently, but had a genuine redemption story. And it wasn't saccharine about it, either. The first "Babydoll" always gets a mention with me. The breakdown at the end it palpable. "I just want to be real." And of course, "Grey Ghost" and "Batman on Trial." Although I will also add to me what it the quintessential animated "Batman" moment comes from the Justice League Unlimited episode, "Epilogue." Any fan who's seen it knows exactly what I'm talking about -- the death of Ace. In that world, even the majority of the Justice League agreed they should poison Ace. Batman seemingly accepts the heavy burden, but reveals he never intended to harm Ace in any way. Why? Because he and Ace knew each other way too well. In a slightly better world, they would have been longtime friends. This moment was all they had, and Bruce / Batman was determined to give this poor tortured soul at least one moment of friendship, even if everyone else had given up. That is Batman -- the mortal man who never gives up. 2. Who is my favorite "Batman"? You know, I can't answer that one. I will agree Kevin Conroy defined that role, because with him it was not just a one-and-done role. It was a mission. 3. I was at work. One of my teammates flashed the message on our private chat. I sighed. I took a moment. I gave a moment of bittersweet thanks. And sadly, I had to push it from my mind and focus on the two-dozen tech support requests I had to answer. I reminded of the chorus of a song I heard once long ago. "But there's bills to pay, and kids to love, and a house to make a home. Because I'm older now. And I ain't got time to cry." I can still dream. I can still honor the legacy of what is good. And I can still encourage others to do the same. Good night.

    1) Riddler's debut episode, the ending "how much would you pay for a good nights sleep" - Poison Ivy's family episode where she made a fake plant family - The Invisible man's episode where experimental invisibility cloth is driving a divorced dad insane while he's trying to see his daughter. - Harley's bad day, where Harley is free and due to misunderstanding a situation she flips out and gets sent back to Arkham - Joker's millions, Joker gets a inheritance that's 90% counterfeit and freaks out about "I'm crazy enough to take on Batman but the IRS? HA!" - The one where Joker picks on some random fat guy, drives him crazy and the end Joker screams for BATMAN! when it looks like "the great Joker taken out with his own bomb and some random guy" - Batmans "death" where Batman is "killed" by some mousy nobody and Joker gives Batman and the nobody a kazoo funeral in the chemical plant, the nobody gets saved/sent to prison and everyone respects him for killing the bat. - Grey Ghost great episode of Batman and Batman 66's Adam We teaming up. and a whole lot more honestly those are just the ones from top of my head. 2) Keaton Batman as he's the only version of Batman who can "scratch" a cd like a vinyl record. 3) Home like I hear about all celeb deaths.

The other amazing strong point of this show was the emphasis on the writing and voice actors, to the point of of comparison to old radio shows/plays. As beautiful as the VISUAL aspect of the show was, one can easily close your eyes or step away and still be immersed in the production, so strong the vocal performances of ALL the cast. THIS (BTAS, STAS, JLTAS, JLUTAS) set the standard for the voice I hear when I read comics. RIP KC *sniff*

Jesus, so many episodes I’d have to rewatch the whole series to find a favorite. Off the top of my head, there’s an episode where Harley Quinn is released (she proudly shows people her “sane” certificate), and goes shopping, but the dress she buys has a security tag still attached so the alarm goes off. PTSD kicks in because she thinks people will never believe she didn’t steal it (I think someone in the store tries to explain what’s going on to her, but she’s stuck in what she thinks is going on), so she I think steals a car and it’s Harley vs the world. But how it wraps up is Batman doesn’t treat her like he usually would, and even returns her dress to her. Stunned that he would treat her like she wasn’t the criminal she was, she says something, I forget what. Batman says “I had a bad day once, too.” Just the story, the characters, the acting, how it ends….that’s part of the core of who Batman is to me. (I think this is mostly how the episode went. This is all from memory, though I think I’ll watch it later since I’m thinking about it now.)

I love how BTAS continued the Anachronism Stew anesthetic of the Burton films of an alternate version of contemporary times where everyone dresses like its the 40s that the films dropped and imo should return. The look encourages wild mass guessing, like my friends theory that the reason people dress that way is that maybe its a near future Gotham enduring a new Ice Age,hence wide brim hats and long coats making a practical return, and the regression to 40s fashion and Art Deco(my present day interpretation of his theory incoming)was because these looks and style evoked a sense of comfort, much the Galaxy Express 999 designed to look like an old fashioned steam locomotive to give those departing Earth permanently a comforting sense of nostalgia. And I agree as for the moving image adaptations of Batman a 30 year old half hour animated series proved to be and remains the pinnacle adaptation of Batman.

I loved Harley Quinn's introduction and any episode with her in it was a treat. Conroy will never be replaced in my opinion and I think I was watching another video when a notification popped up saying Conroy RIP. At first I thought it was a joke but quickly I realized it was all to true.

I watched Mask of the Phantasm last night and I don't think any other series before or since has understood Bruce Wayne better than the animated series. RIP Kevin Conroy.

10:00 Razorfist's recent Arkham Knight stream is how I found out. If the standard enthusiast press were more than gossip rags, hit pieces and fluff jobs, I could have found out from them but I do not look to zombies to get death notifications.

Actually contrary to what some believe, Spider-Man TAS was NOT under alot of restrictions. It had no more restrictions than any other cartoon of the time. Alot were choices made by the showrunner John Semper Jr. There's honestly too many good episodes to name but if I had to pick one it would be "The Gray Ghost". It was a wholesome "passing the torch" episode from Adam West to Kevin Conroy at a time when it seemed everyone wanted to forget about his take on the character post-Burton.

    1. Can’t pick just one, sorry. But if we expand into movies (and continuing with Conroy) Batman Beyond Return of the Joker is pretty high up there. 2. Conroy hands down. If I have to move into live action…..Batfleck 3. At home. On my phone. 4. I know there’s no 4, but I have to share. The series was out when I was in high school (graduated 95) and school didn’t let out until 4:30 (east coast). A classmate used to bring a portable TV (which was about the size of a small toaster oven with an antenna) to class. Last period he’d plug it in and we’d watch Batman (we finished our work first of course). Good times.

Great video. I was a traveling construction worker most of my adult life. I didnt know anything about this show. I recently got hbo/max, and they have tons of animated DC movies. I've almost watched them all, and was wondering what to watch when i finished them. I guess i now know. Tyvm.

Twoface part 1 and 2 Kevin Conroy, Rino Romano, Will Friedle and Diedrich Bader animated. Christian Bale, Robert Pattinson, Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton Live action. I've always kept Animated Batman and Live action Batman seperate from each other as they are two different types of media. I was on the train visting a friend when I read about Conroy's passing. when i came home I put one Batman and Superman Public Enemies, Then since I was home sick all last week, I binged watched Batman Beyond. And now as it's sunday night I am wartching the animated series.

Robins reckoning, it gave me appreciation for robin long before teen titans ever did, and it did pay off later when he became nightwing. It also showed a ton of flashbacks of his life before robin went to college. And obv the animated series is my fav as it was the perfect timing as I was about 10 when it was airing. The first batman movie i sadly saw was batman and robin and i didnt get to see the adam west one or the very dark one I was just too young. So animated series was the best for me. All the new batman well im too old for that at this point lol.

If it wasn't three years too early (1966), I might speculate on choice of Adam West partly for his physical similarities to Neil Armstrong. The whole hero thing, and most Americans still held true to, and were proud of, its founding principles.

Beware the Grey Ghost has to be the best, cause Adam West voiced grey ghost, the episode is about batman reliving his youth watching a cartoon really connects as an adult and in the episode batman revives an old loved series which also sadly mirrors reality the real where stars in hit tv shows often can't find work due to casters not being able to see past their previous roles.
