he really wasnt, he was an overrated defender. never made an all defensive team and that was the reason he was the #2 pick. a guy like andre roberson was a better player and had a better career than MKG

@@walterreed5849He was 9th in DPOY voting in his 3rd year. If you swapped Roberson and MKG he would've had more accolades. Roberson benefitted from being the best perimeter defender on a team beside two top scorers. MKG at the very least was as good of a defender, a better rebounder, and better free throw shooter than Roberson. Doesn't make him any less of a bust. But that's just scraping the barrel in terms of takes.

He was truly bad because his jumpshots was the worst thing I’ve ever seen in basketball history. I mean who really shoot the ball the way he does. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was drafted in the same class with Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal and Draymond Green. At least, he played in the league for 8 seasons and we didn’t see him again after that.

He just couldn't shoot, that's it. If he had a consistent jumper he would be in the league still and a top 10 player in the league. 💯

Just like Frank Kaminsky three years later, MKG was drafted too early (by the same franchise, go figure) and had expectations that he was never gonna be able to live up to. MKG was a great defender on the perimeter and interior and played bigger than he was. He could even be used as a small ball center. Unfortunately, he got an unfair bust label because he was drafted second.
