My wife commutes daily in her Kona N, 66 miles a day round trip (about 6 miles of that city, the rest highway). She kicks it into ECO mode on the freeway and averages about 32 mpg every week. Very happy with that MPG for such a FUN car.

That’s impressive! Eco mode definitely makes a difference, crazy see a car like this get that kind of MPG.

I just did 1800 miles with my brother throughout the South. Expressways, city driving , and 2 days on the Tail of the Dragon, and Cherohola Skyway, Did triple figures and traffic jams. We got 27.1 overall, using 93 octane. 2 adults, their luggage, and lots of souvenir Tshirts for a load. If I wanted a High mileage car, I would have bought one. Love this car.

Shoot if you ask me, that’s petty impressive for the type of driving you did. I’ve noticed my mpg has gone up a lot since the temps have dropped, I was average 22, now I’m averaging 26.5 mpg and that’s with me doing longer cold starts

I have a 20 to 25 mi daily commute and I drive mine in a mixture of economy normal and N mode. Mostly town and city setting. I get about 20 to 24 miles per gallon. Haven't went on a road trip yet but good to hear that it can be better on the highway. Sure do have to fill the little thing up all the time 😅

Best I got on a long roadtrip in eco / normal was 38mpg! But even mixing in full N here and there I've been getting around 28-30mpg (but getting bad city mpg at 16-20 or so hah)!

Don't use the cars gauge of mpg, there is no law saying it must be accurate within x spec. Fill up the car(autostop), do the type of driving you want to check until almost empty, go to same pump and fill(autostop), divide OD miles by gallons filled. Pumps and OD have to be accurate within spec by law. A cars mpg gauge can be as accurate as Hyundai wants it to be within reason. My car once said 40's and I got 31 after doing method mentioned.

My Veloster N 6 MT gets between 26 and 28 mpg on country back roads commuting to work. I don't drive it like a little old lady either. For the fun factor and the capability when I need it I think I get pretty good mileage. The few times I have been on the turnpike for awhile I hit 30+ mpg easily. That is on regular 87 octane gas so I know my timing is pulled a bit.

@KonaNthusiast I ran 87 on my Gen Coupe. I traded it at over 134k miles and she still ran like a top. If you are not banging the engine off the rev limiter it is not noticeable. On back roads when I pass illegally I am shifting by 5k or less. I am probably a bit easier on my engine than many others. Tires...not so much.

So from what I read, 2023 model will be the same and the next generation of the Kona will be out for 2024. I would love to see a more modern interior, similar to the Elantra. I would also like for them to add auto cruise control and sunroof

Im at 21 in mostly urban driving--I also use eco mode to smoothe out the DCT--but I still takeoff decently quick.The Kona N does have prettymuch instant power at all speeds including over 100 mph so I expect this.On the HWy this car gets 30 plus MPG though--even at 90 MPH I was at 31.1 MPG

Nice! That’s pretty good gas mileage, I feel like the MPGs get better with time. I usually average 19-22, highway j get 28-33

32mpg on freeway all day long at 75 or so. Lifetime average is 22.9mpg 3800 miles. I do mostly city driving. It's pretty good for a 5 second 0 to 60 SUV.

Car and driver got 4.8 but it feels more like the 5.5-6.5 I see most people get. I’m going to probably mod it to bring up the torque and have it sooner. I was thinking of trading it in for a 2018 BMW M2 but it’s a nice car all things considered, not sure yet. I’m used to sportbike acceleration so I have to temper my impressions lol.

@@carloscervantes836 haha yeah I don’t blame ya on wanting something faster, but this is more than just a fast vehicle, it’s just fun 😂 my quickest 0-60 is 4.8 seconds but I usually get 5.3-5.5, my slowest has been 5.8 with bad wheel spin

I love the Kona N 😍😍 The kind of people buying it don’t really care about gas mileage. That’s not why you buy a high performance SUV 🤷🏼‍♂️

Agreed! I can say though, this thing is a lot worse on gas than the Elantra N. I rode in an Elantra N and Veloster N this weekend. My friends averaged 30 mpg the whole weekend with us speeding around Atlanta. I averaged 23.5

Wow that’s not bad at all, I can only do that every now and then lol. Traffic is rough on this side of town

mines Elantra N 6mt. Mine goes about 270-290 per tank. For 3k miles that i drove- its showing 26 mpg. I drove almost 80% on freeway(1000miles pickup new car and getting home).

That’s not bad at all, yeah the Elantra N seems to be more efficient than the Kona N, especially if it has the DCT. My KN has been really efficient lately though I’ve averaged 25-27 lately

With my VN I get around 7l/100km on the highway (which is pretty great), and 13l/100km in the city (which is pretty terrible). That's 33MPG highway, 18MPG city for you Americans. :)

The seats are surprisingly comfortable, the bolsters are tight but aren’t nearly as bad as the VN. They’re also power seats for the driver

I just made a 30 mile run 20 of which on the motorway all in eco. I got 40.5 mpg but im not sure if your gallon is the same as ours in the UK.

The EPA estimates that the Kona N should deliver 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, which is significantly less efficient than the regular one.lol

That’s still great mpg like you said it’s a small suv so obviously aerodynamics are worse compared to sports cars like elantra n, best I did in my elantra was just above 40mpg 🙂

93 is recommend, so 87 is fine. Only thing is that I would STRONGLY recommend going to a top tier gas station if you’re putting 87 in your car. Costco, shell , Exxon BP etc are top tier stations

@@robertyoung3111 yes, still feels sturdy. No rattles so far, I do need to go get some suspension components checked out and make sure I still have a good alignment

I'm 6'6 230lbs, think I'd fit comfortably?

You should be able to fit comfortably, tons of head room and the seat goes back pretty far. I’m 6’1 and there’s still plenty of room to go back with the seat. I can say this though, good look putting anybody behind you haha

You said it’s supposed to get 22mpg ? It’s supposed to be 30-32 . I push mine daily in N mode and I still average like 28 city . Your getting some very bad mileage .

The Kona N is rated at 20 city 27 highway, 22 combined. It honestly depends on your city and traffic and hills. There’s a lot of hills on my side and the traffic is horrible, I get caught at almost every light, so I usually average 25-27 mpg now

You do not buy the performance version of any car for gas mileage. If you want gas mileage buy a hybrid are just go EV but gas mileage on a N version come on bruh....

Of course, I definitely agree. The purpose of the video was mainly to inform others that are infested in this vehicle that the gas mileage isn’t bad at all for what it is and usually overperforms the EPA estimate.

dude it still matters! if it was getting like 10mpg at that point get a truck. this can blow the doors off of most cars and still get 30mpg. IMPRESSIVE!
