About my videos: These videos are a resource for anyone wishing to wake up from the dream of separation. Awakening, enlightenment, and liberation are becoming far more mainstream possibilities than they once were. There are many good teachers out there, and if you resonate with the teachings of Eckhart Tolle, Rupert Spira, or Sadhguru, you might find resources here that address these deeper promptings to investigate your true nature.
Disclaimer: The information presented in these videos is not meant to diagnose or treat any psychiatric or medical illness. The inquiries presented herein are potent and can have powerful effects on the way you experience yourself and reality. If you feel you are at risk of harming yourself or others, these videos and practices may not be the best thing for you at the moment. Seek help wherever necessary which might include a hospital emergency department, a suicide helpline etc.

    Show me an awakened person. Show me an unawakened person. Both the awakened and unawakened are part of a dream - the dream of being someone. There never was a person. Unborn and without knowledge.

    I can see how often I am in my head, but I see the difference. I remember an experience of a good few years ago, I woke up in the night, but I was in that inbetween state, not fully awake but aware of being in bed. It was raining heavily and I'm listening to the sound on the roof, but it was as if I was hearing it inside my body, in me, I was it. It was so utterly peaceful., til I drifted back into sleep.

    There is no pass or fail or scale for who you are. It is not needed. There is not any person that exists and therefore, could never take even one step closer to what is. There is no scale from here to there. All that exists in the dream of a dream character. This is it, and I do not know what it is. Always. For no one.

    This video was exactly right for me exactly now. Thank you very much. When focusing on the background ringing, I was able to intuit, that I tried to turn off my hearing at age because of bullies laughing at me. This resulted in a constant tension pattern in my face and abdomen. I have always been hyper sensitive to sound and now I know why and it’s gone.

    Wow, well, what this teased out was how that ‘dialogue’ is SO integrated. I was walking in the woods and I couldn’t hear sound without the directional quality to it, left side or right side… in front or behind. The sounds were automatically packaged with those directional/ spatial qualities because it was heard louder in one or the other ear. I could resist labels of ‘woodpecker’ and ‘blue jay’ but the mind seems like it is seamless with direction. What’s up with that??

    My introduction to meditation came in the form of a book from the 70's called "Getting There Without Drugs". Maybe dated now (I did keep my library copy but haven't looked back since then). The very first exercise was "Say you notice a garbage truck going by on the street. What is it you notice? What are the assumptions you leap to and images you conjure because you believe that's what you are hearing?" It is a subtle but powerful practice and certainly one of my first steps to insight and true mindfulness.

    I'd like to first take a moment to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for what you do, thank you. One of the biggest challenges I have discovered during this journey, is that I'm way too mind-identified. I catch myself constantly deeply absorbed into thought, even the most subtle forms of thought. But it's more of an addiction like you mentioned. I take the chance to "step back" into what it is, whenever I get it. This video deeply resonated with me. I can also relate to everything you said. Thank you for pointing out those "traps" back into the mind. It feels like my mind constantly evolves into more subtle forms the more I'm aware of its mouvement. It would be great if you can talk about this one day! Have a great one.

    It's tricky. Maybe because I have significant hearing loss on one side, my brain has rewired itself to zero in on location and direction of sound. It wants to be very specific about sounds and where they come from and what is causing them. Takes up a lot of energy. But listening to ringing, humming, etc helps, maybe because they are less locatable, I don't know. When I listen, it's clear that the sound is nowhere, although it feels like everywhere!! Perhaps more accurate to say no location, or location is irrelevant.

    What an enjoyable video! Thank you! We're in a soup of vibrations. (and made of vibrations, too!) Then we have those lovely sensory organs, that perceive but a few of those vibrations, some as "light" and "color", some as "sound", some as "solid" even! ... We are already at the level of labeling here. A bit remote from the pure fact of "vibration"... (or rather, the interaction of certain vibrations with our own vibrations...) e.g. A certain vibration interacts with our ears - which are also vibrations - and we perceive "a sound"... Then our brains catalog that sound - so fast. (that has survival value, obviously)... Then comes the blah blah blah... the interpretations, the evaluations, etc. Then... the observation of the blah blah... ... and as Gary Weber says in his fab book "Evolving beyond Thought", if you keep digging, there is nothing there. "Ayi! Patati aham!" wrote Ramana Maharshi. (the house of cards has fallen, the illusion of an "I", poof!) For fun, a great sound for the practice you suggest is: get some dry ice (in the country I live in, if you buy ice cream, they often give you dry ice) and put it in a glass of water, and LISTEN! gloop and glop and glup. A whole Universe...

    I’m convinced I won’t get this without some kind of shift - so I don’t know why I bother asking. Experientially I can get there - no direction, no source need be tied with the experience of the sound. But what are we saying concretely- there is no drum that is being hit by a stick causing sound waves to hit my ear drum? Or do we say that’s what’s happening on a relative/material level? Or do we say it’s neither that nor not that? I don’t see how we can say one is more true than the other, and in fact I feel my experience can be more easily tricked than what’s happening on a concrete level. I can smell there’s a hamburger on the table in front of me, yet when I open my eyes it’s just a clear liquid of hamburger fragrance made to flavor some fast food burger. I have trouble trusting this place of non-self/non-concept as being truer than “the sound is coming from the speaker in the room off to the right”. How am I stuck?

  • @SimplyAlwaysAwake

    Well quote simply you’re doing a lot of thinking. This is what, as you rightly said, the first shift is critical, non-dual realization is quite subtle so doesn’t come until after the first insight has matured a bit.

    Here’s something I’ve been wondering: If consciousness plays no part in sound (or other nondual perception), how is it able to store reflections of that sound in memory and replay it from memory?

  • @themindfuldj320

    @themindfuldj320

    Who says consciousness plays no part in sound? Speaking of an object called sound as separate and distinct ‘from’ consciousness means the question already assumes duality and precludes from looking at the immediacy of our experience as it is. Try focusing on consciousness and then moving from simply hearing to consciousness, back to hearing. Where is consciousness in terms of location in relation to hearing. Can you find a point where consciousness ends and hearing begins? Stay with what experience tells you, don’t start mentally analysing. 🙏🏻

    Is awakening then the moment this shift in perception from “over there” to “always right here” becomes the default? Or when that shift is first realized? I can see how the latter would be a “holy shit” moment for someone that has never experienced it, akin to the feeling of “waking up.” I know getting lost in the concepts is the last thing you want, but I want to make sure I am not overlooking the shift because I expect more from it.

    Honestly, I'm perfectly aware of what thoughts say about the sound by way of explanation, but believe/disbelieve them? That isn't necessary. Also, there is the kind of raw experience that isn't explained in any cognitive way. But that's been the case life-long. The dimensional has always been a conceptual overlay. It's not like this rather than that. It's always Also/And. But, kind of in the background - there's no foreground to compare it to but it's still the only word - it's all the experience of me - just different focuses of attention suitable to whatever is needed now.
