Nah this should be regulated and if governments don't step up now and do it it'll be worse for the world. Specifically for art AI it's not IP. It's non copyrightable. In my opinion, since it steals art from real artists it should be watermarked. Put it to a law that AI image generators like midjourney must watermark their content as AI art. I'd be content with that, no one getting sued or anything, just showing things to the public for what they are. I'm tired of spending a week on an art piece just for someone to ask me if I prompted it. Why are you making an argument that's basically in defense of techbros? It's stupid to say "lets just let this continue unregulated because its new". Thats precisely why it should be regulated, existing copyright laws have too many loopholes since they werent written when this technology existed. Whatever though, you might be an "agent of chaos" or whatever edgy shit you choose to identify with dude but you're literally kicking away the ladder for upcoming artists. I'm not some fickle fucking leaf in the wind that blows about, I see a problem I want it addressed. This is currently a massive problem for me. I'm just starting in this industry and the market is saturated with cheap, stolen, crap. I also can't put my own art online now without worrying some techbro is going to steal it. But yeah dude I'll just go with the flow...

Luddites were complaining about the steam-engines or whatever in factories way back when, and it's the same thing now - for some reason, artists and writers, we all just thought we were above it. We ain't backing up the clock. You can't unring the bell. The way AI pops stuff out, it's similar to how human beings do it, and all you creators know what I'm talking about: you take a few different cool things that have inspired you and mush them together to create a new cool thing. Or you just try to create a new riff on an existing theme or idea. It's not rocket surgery - it actually is easier than that. That's similar to how AI pops out it's stuff. Same concept. It's a good tool for artists to use as references, I think - a great tool to kinda help visualize something you're having trouble with. I don't love it, no, and I can't stand AI-generated art - it is ugly. But I'm just saying, it's here to stay.

And I'm sorry but why are you so anti regulation? You're saying we can do nothing about and it's here to stay. Seems to be a self fulfilling prophecy! @@biocykle And what good would that do, if you actually like doing art and being a creative for example? Most artists out there go in to art because they love the "act" of creating something. Beacuse they love, what the algorithm "does". I don't know. That's like telling a chess player that he should use a chess computer playing his games as a sort of adaptation. Besides, the whole point of those large language models is that EVERYONE can use them. Regardless if they have the skill in painting or not. So there is not much that you can really do here, as the whole target of those models is to make humans as rundand as possible. We are the horses here. Horses can not "adapt" to cars.

@@CrniWuk I didn't say anything about using AI for artistic purposes... I said the first step towards adaptation might be learning to use the current tools as well as you can. Not to make art with them, but to 1) not get left behind as the world changes, 2) optimize / automate all your routine tasks to have more time for creative work and 3) know your enemy if you want to have a fighting chance resisting the tech. There are countless ways to utilize LLMs for your benefit... that do not need to mess with your artistic practice in any way. TL;DR - AI ignorance / illiteracy will be risky in a few years' time

@@biocykle Depends I think. For a lot of professions "learning" the tools won't do much as the target is automatition. That's like telling the horses they should adapt to cars. But they can't. Because the whole purpose of it was, in the end, to make them "redundand". It might be beneficial for some, I am sure. But I don't think the majority will actually see it as that. Not to mention that we're already seeing an increase on pressure at the labour market. There will be a hell of lot of people which will be left behind here ... and I don't expect it to be pretty. Because those people won't go anywhere. And that will cause some serious political and social instability. Or how did someone once explain it, robots don't pay taxes nor do they consume.

Society is just as much about change as it is about stability. We are headed into a society without humans, the idea that we will procreate for generation after generation seems silly at this point. We have build society on power and infinite growth, if it means that something other than a human grows faster and is more powerful, it will replace us. I wonder if the reason that we have never met aliens is because every advanced civilization achieves an AI that is so intelligent that its knowledge eclipses all the information in the universe, it woudlnt need a ufo to explore because it already knows the universe to such a fundamental level that it can simulate in its mind how everything everywhere is already.

On the point of not having the drive to make something because ANYBODY else can make it in their own special little way, that's always been true, and AI didn't make that a thing that just suddenly became achievable. This happens with EVERYTHING. There would be no superheroes without superman. I do whole heartedly agree that people need to accept and adapt, but the sediment that working on a comic or making something (like this video) isn't worth it because apparently now ANYONE can make your idea, is silly. Everyone has always been able to make your idea, with or without AI they could do it, and make it in their own special way with everything they want. At that point though, its not the same idea. Different perspectives are interesting, sometimes even more than what someone would come up with when they THINK of what exactly they want. Truthfully, most don't know what they want until they've seen or found it. Some one else could make this video and make it 100x better in their own vision, exactly how they wanted to make it, and yet, you still made it. Why put the effort into this editing and careful explanation if someone could make this video in their own special way, with advice that they like better than your advice? Your perspective, and the way you make things does matter, not anyone can just do what you do with AI, until you make the thing, then they can copy it and twist it up, but you still got to be first. Don't stop creating, don't give up on projects, we don't know what the future holds but just live in the present and take every opportunity you can. Make stuff, it doesn't matter if someone else can make your idea in their own way, they've always been able to and always have. Adapt to your situation, but don't give up on those fun or deep ideas just because someone else can do that too. There's a difference between could do, and did.

Like if there’s no profit or egotistical motivation to do art maybe human art will be more honest. It’ll just be art for arts sake. In AI there are things called "base models". That's the beginning point of what those models will create. Without the original artists input, there is nothing but noise. AI is nothing without human input, and I don't think we can stray too far from that without people seeing the art as disingenuous. These base models are constantly in need of refinement, and the genuine artists are both the seed and fertilizer. We still need you, David. This AI stuff is (hopefully) just an extension of humanity, not an abolition. If it is datacentric, or technical, AI wins....but human ingenuity and creativity is still absolutely UNMATCHED. Humans are god, and AI is but a very powerful tool that we have constructed.

However my main concern is the simple how do we as artist adapt to that, this is something that does concern me in the long run by I do have hope that we can do that in a way, because as you said, Humans just have to adapt. I suppose one could view their art as a hobby that is done primarily only for oneself like singing in a car, but I have to be honest the thing that always hit me the most was that I felt like whether viewing or creating art I was tapping into one of the coolest/deepest/most interesting parts of humanity, and even if I can't communicate the best with humans face to face, I can look at a sculpture from 1000 years ago and receive a message from its creator that is both more abstract and specific than anything else in the world.

its true, acceptance is better than Ulrich. If anything we have a playbook for what's next. how did music get broken, did it? if yes continue to page 3. page 3. we can create the Spotify or Apple Music of art. artify...well that exisits so something better maybe Spartle. we'll work on the name, maybe ask ai for some good business names. then we can follow their blueprint. step by step its all good we'll get where we want to go could be we already got here where we are going so we no longer need to go anywhere where we are is good, that was easy.....its that old saying "embrace the suck" or maybe what happens next is not anything that's happened before, maybe this revolution is reinvention of humanity, and we don't need to sell our art to make money to make art and occasionally eat mushrooms and then make art and you friend shows up and asks if you wanna make cake but its coming and going around. community through chaos. simulation glitch reconnect with the inner kingdom horray happiness.

The very least we should all agree that AI is only trained on artwork that artists have given permission to have AI trained on. In other words, artists should have the right to consent on whether their artwork is used or not to train AI.

the origin is the same as in every single industrial society paradigm outbreak: inequity, wealth accumulation and scarcity. Nonetheless, maybe things do really need to happen in order to better understand (and overthrow) the enemy(ies). If history doesn't repeat itself, things would be all too perfect, so there's no point in growing naive resentment on a world-scale industrial novelty only by its origin. Art and music understood as fields of prodictive labour and profit sources are literally an invention of "the wealthy" as well, but we're not dismissing art and music because of that, right? It's worth the shot leaving things unfold. "If you don't know yourself and the enemy, every battle will be lost" - it's in The Art Of War or something like it.

I"be been a mixed media physical artist all my life I'm 50 & i I just got into Ai art a few months ago & swear it gives me reason to get put of bed and I'm the least technically amongst my friends but the biggest nerd , insane history of art from N.Y, essaywritter , had exhibitions , sold art and studied in London for 7 years, in 3 different art schools i never ciece to learn every day and Ai art is just an other part of Art History ....well it will be in the future . Duchamp and his urinals weren't considered art by most ... But here we are .... I'm not kidding: Ai gave my childhood back and possibly my senior moments . To come ❤❤❤ I love you David Choe.

A.i. will enable uncreative losers, to finally develop their boring idea that nobody cares about (i'm talking about me). It'll be hard for people who don't suck, to get noticed in the maelstrom of artificially generated garbage, hard to get rich making art (it was never easy). Honestly we shouldn't be making art for money. If you aren't doing it because you love making things, being replaced by a robot is the best thing for you. At least now, flashy technique will become meaningless. In the future, fidelity, realism, style, and design won't be worth squat. It will have become ubiquitous, meanwhile interesting ideas and fetisization of handmade objects will become the coin of the realm.
